Sarah’s POV
“Are you ready to talk now?” Booted feet walked into the room as Marcus raised his head.
“Get lost!” I spat at them angrily.
“Oh, Sarah,” Marcus pulled my hair, increasing the agony I was going through. With both hands tied and suspended from the ground, and with his firm grip on my hair, I felt like I was already losing it.
“You’ll never get anything from me, Marcus,” I was firm in my decision. I already saw this torture coming, but I still decided to keep my lips sealed, never to reveal Stephanie’s whereabouts to him, even if it meant I’ll have to sacrifice my life for it.
“You think you’re tough, huh?” Marcus pulled harder. I screamed out loud, as the pain was so unbearable.
I bit my lips hard, my teeth getting, as I tried to endure the pain. “No matter how much you torture me, you’ll never get anything from me.”
I had given up my freedom just to make sure Stephanie got away in one piece. Marcus and his pack members had come for her when he came to attack our pack. We had seen it coming, and we knew exactly what to do about it.
“Then, I’ll make sure you leave leave this place the way you came in,” Marcus’s lips curled into a wry smile.
Two other guys walked in at that moment, a hard look on their faces.
“You’re here? I’m guessing you guys came in with good news?” Marcus asked, letting go of his grip on my hair. I breathed out, relieved of the pain that I had been experiencing from his merciless grip.
“Not yet, Alpha. We still haven’t found her yet,” one of the men replied, a feeling of disappointment written all over his face.
I didn’t know when a triumphant smile escaped my lips. I knew Stephanie too well. She’d be somewhere safe already where no one would be able to find her. She knew what was at stake if she gets caught, and would do anything to prevent that from happening.
Angrily, Marcus marched towards me, pulling my hair even more forecfully.
“Where on the goddamn earth is Stephanie?” Marcus barked at me angrily. I believed he was trying to scaree, but it didn’t work.
I let out a mocking laugher, despite the intensity of the pain I was passing through. Seeing Marcus looking angry was everything to me. He must have succeeded in subduing my pack, and laying it to waste, but the fact that Stephanie was still out there, I had hopes of being a free werewolf some day.
“What makes you think you’ll be able to find Stephanie so easily? Whether you like it or not Marcus, you’ll never win. For as long as Stephanie is still out there, you’ll mfbff win,” I spat angrily at him once again.
Marcus’ phone buzzed with an incoming call. Stepping aside to answer the call, he asked Lexon, another of his most trusted pack member to take over from where he stopped.
I wasn’t able to grasp the conversation with whoever it was that had called, but the moment he retired, I could tell that he had received a call.
“Imbeciles! All of them!” He yelled.
I watched the two men who had come in, waiting if any further instructions would be passed. Seeing the two of them looking at the furious alpha made me wonder how a group of werewolves on their right frame of minds would agree to serve someone like Marcus.
“We’ll be back and by then I hope you’ll be willing to give me the answers I seek to us,”
“In your dreams,” I laughed.
“You can go on ahead. I still have some unfinished with her.” Marcus ordered the two other men as they bowed their heads slightly.
“Thank you, Alpha.” They walked out and immediately.
Marcus looked around the room, and then moved towards me.
“The reason I’m keeping you alive is because you’re the only person who knows Stephanie’s whereabouts.”

Stephanie’s POV
Reyna’s gaze softened, and for the first time since I’d walked into the room, she looked vulnerable. “I’m scared, Steph, I don’t know what to do.”
I squeezed her arm, trying to find out what was wrong with her. “What’d the problem, Rey?”
“I’ll be leaving tomorrow. And I’m scared. What if I don’t find another pack to take me in? What if I walk into some kind of enemy pack, and I’m unable to convince them that I’m a werewolf?”
“What if you wait a bit, Rey? The lords are coming over.”
“I don’t belong here, Steph.”
“Please, Rey,” I pressed, hoping I’d be able to convince her not to leave. But Reyna was stubborn. Once she has made up her mind to do something, there’s hardly any thing you’d tell her that would make her change her mind. It’s one of the few things I’ve noticed about her since we became friends.
For a moment, we just stood there in the quiet, the weight of everything hanging between us. But then Reyna took a deep breath, as if summoning the courage to say what was really on her mind.
“There’s something else Steph, another reason why I should leave as soon as possible” Rey said, her voice hesitant. “I didn’t tell you everything because… because I’m afraid of what will happen if the rest of the pack finds out the truth.”
My heart raced. “The truth about what?”
Reyna’s eyes flicked toward the window, as if she were looking for an escape. Then she turned back to me, her expression pained. “My father, though a normal werewolf, works together with the Lycans. I found out about it. Look, if the rest of the pack finds out that I’m the daughter of a potential traitor, it may be more shameful.”
I felt a chill run down my spine. “Are you kidding me, Reyna?”
She hesitated for a long moment, and then she whispered, “He’s working with the Lycans, Steph. He’s been helping them, in exchange for power and control.”
My blood ran cold. “What?”
