“ASH.” I said out loud, sharply, for him to speak to me and stop staring at me.
He shut his eyes and pulled his arm off my hands. “There are some things I hate talking about.” He calmly uttered without taking his eyes off me. “I love you don’t mean I talk about everything to you. They are some things I wish to keep to myself because if I talk about them with you, it wouldn’t be nice. If I’m quiet, it doesn’t mean I am stupid or I’m being heartless with you. That’s just the way things choose to be.”
“But why are you furious? Who are you mad at? I know you, Ash. Is it me? Is it our parents or anyone? You have episodes like this when someone offends you so badly.”
“Why didn’t you tell me you had a boyfriend?!”
“What are you talking about?”
Does he know about James?
“You think I will never find out?”
“Find out about what?”
“That you are dating James. You never told me you were in a relationship.” He smiled sadly with a low chuckle. “Who’s keeping things from each other now?”
His eyes looked painful. It held sadness in them, and the sound of his voice tore me apart.
His voice wasn’t shaky or broken. But it’s calmness and how he looked at me, moved me to tears.
I didn’t mean to hide my relationship away from him. It’s just that…I didn’t feel like telling him.
I didn’t know how he was going to feel, so I said nothing to him. And I wasn’t ready to talk about it yet. I was just waiting for the right time to talk about it.
How did he know I was dating James? James couldn’t have told him, right? He promised to not tell anyone until I was ready to talk about our relationship.
I know this sounds sudden, but I didn’t want Ash to find out like this.
I wanted him to, you know, know how this sounds and everything.
I didn’t mean to keep things from him. It wasn’t a story I planned to hide.
“Ash.” I whispered. “I wanted to tell you-”
“When?” He scoffed. “When he had knocked you off and gotten you pregnant? Is that when you planned to tell me?!”
“Ash, he will never do that-”
“What makes you sure? After all, you lost your virginity-”
“How did you know?” I interrupted, feeling surprised at his words. “How do you know so much about me? I didn’t tell you anything about James and me. So, tell me the strategies you used. Did you stalk me?”
“You reek of him.” He snarled. “Did you think no matter how you hide your pheromones from me with your fake perfume? I wouldn’t know? How stupid do you think I am, Violet? Did you think I wouldn’t know when your legs shook terribly as you walked up the stairs to your room? His wolf’s scent was all over you. I have a sharp nose and I knew it was from him, the minute you stepped into the house at midnight on that day. I knew everything. What did you think I was doing? Did you think I was dumb and sleeping in my bed on that day?”
“Ash, listen to me.” I tried calming him down. Although he looked calm within him, he wasn’t as calm as he looked.
“What’s there to listen about? You had your life to live, and I had mine to live. Why the fuck should I tell you everything when you don’t listen to-”
“I didn’t hide it from you. I planned to talk to you about it today or tomorrow.” I was being honest with him. I planned to hide my relationship with James from him before, but when I thought about it, I brushed off the idea later on.
“I see.”
“Did my actions cause your episodes to be triggered?”
“Does that matter, Violet?!”
“Ash-”
“It’s late now. You go take some rest.” he almost turned away from me.
“I was the reason you got mad and went to Anderson’s house to get drunk. Willow told me you were all at his house when I called her to check up on you when she picked up your phone. And she told me where you were and how drunk you were when I asked her to give you the phone. I wanted to come see you, but I wasn’t feeling too well by myself. So, I had to take some rest and wait for you to come home after you’ve had fun with the others. I was just taking a stroll around the mansion when I went to your room to lie on your bed. I wanted to feel your scent on that bed since my room felt so cold and I was missing you. Opened the door and realized it was locked and called our butler to give me a spare key to check up on your room to know what was going on when I saw a pool of red wine coming from your room under the door. I wasn’t invading your privacy. I was just being concerned about you and I was right. My instincts were telling me something was wrong. And when I opened the door, that’s when I knew what was happening.”
“Still-”
“I’m sorry.” I apologized.
“You don’t need to be.” He walked closer to me. “I’m still not happy that you are dating James.”
“Well, you have to be, Ash. He’s a good person. Get to know him.” I shrugged my shoulders and felt happy when I heard what he said to me.
“You are too fucking beautiful to be dating him.”
“Huh! What do you mean?” I laughed out loud and laid my hands on his chest with my head on it. “I like him. I just want to give him a chance.”
“He’s not honest with you. Why do you wanna be with someone like that?!”
Because I can’t be with someone like you, Ash.
If only I could say those words to him.
“You feel he’s not honest with me because you haven’t liked him since we’ve all been kids. I don’t know why you dislike him so much.”
He rolled his eyes again and said, “I guess it’s because of how he looks at you with so much lust and not love. He acts like he wants to possess you or something. Why would I want to trust an alpha like that? Huh! Tell me, Violet.”
“You are not serious, Ash.”
He smiled and wrapped his arms around my waist and looked down at me when I looked up at him.
“What is it?” I tried teasing him. ‘You have something to say to me?’
He laughed with a nod. “Yeah, I want to.”
“What is it?”
