CALL ME A SLOWPOKE.

Turn a blind eye to her misery, because I’m not about to get myself involved.
I’m an Alpha, doesn’t mean I have to get myself involved in any bullshit that isn’t my concern.
I can’t deal with a mess like this. So, it’s better to stay away from it and hide behind the shadows.
Staying out of trouble doesn’t mean I’m a coward. It just means being smart and knowing where to put my legs on and where not to put my legs on.
And besides, it was her fault for getting involved with Ash. She knew what type of alpha he was.
His infamous reputation.
And yet, she still fuck him and agreed to be his fuck buddy, thinking she was someone special because he sleeps with her.
One thing about alphas is that they don’t sleep with Omegas because they are special or anything.
They sleep with Omegas because they are horny and they need a hole to release in.
She stepped on his toes. She should deal with it.
Avery coughed terribly as she slumped to the floor on her knees.
“Best keep your mouth shut. If you don’t want your little brother to disappear, because not only are you demoted from my class, I will also cancel your scholarship. I will take your little fat brother away from you. What class is he in again? Oh! He’s in middle school. How about that?”
“Ash.” She murmured.
“Or should I attack your crippled mother and put her where she belongs?”
“Do nothing, please.”
“Really! Are you playing with me, Avery?” He moved up to her and pulled her collar up along with her in a rough approach and grabbed her face.
“No, Ash.” She shook her head in fright. “Please, I wouldn’t cross your path-”
“You should have thought of that before you double-crossed me and reported me to the school authorities.”
“I’m sorry, Ash. It won’t happen again.”
“Oh, it has happened, Avery. You ruined everything and you think your apology is gonna solve shit. Don’t make me laugh.” He pushed her and slapped her with the back of his right hand. She flipped with a jump and fell to the floor with a loud cry.
“Scream, Avery. Tell everyone about how twisted I am. No one’s gonna save you. Understand?”
~Violet’s Pov~
The wind lost its chill…and warm rays filled the now pleasant air.
I stepped away from the window and stood in front of James and sat down on a dark long stool beside his unconscious body with Willow beside me and her hand on my shoulder.
“What could have happened to him?!”
“That’s what I’m wondering.” I responded without taking my eyes off him. “Someone wanted to kill him. Someone dark and heartless with a huge grudge.” I explained based on the situation that transpired.
“Who could that be? James doesn’t actually have enemies. He is friendly with everyone. The school loves him and…”
“Not everyone likes everyone. There must be some people who hate you for no reason. And I believe the person who did this to him knows him very well.” I stood up from the stool and strolled to the window. “Someone put a wolfsbane in his drink. That’s bad.”
“But I still don’t get it. Call me a slowpoke or something. It’s not like I don’t believe you. I truly do. But if it was truly a wolfsbane, couldn’t James have sniffed it before he drank it? Any wolf would recognize a wolfsbane right away, even if it’s from a distance.”
“I believe someone put a substance so strong to cover up the fragrance of the wolfsbane. If not, James would have recognized it right away.”
“Who do you think did this to him?”
“I don’t know.” I shrugged my shoulders, still staring at the window with my arms folded across my chest.
“We can find the culprit. We can’t let the jerk who did this to him get away with it.”
“What if that jerk is from a powerful pack and family? You know we can’t do anything to him, right?!”
“James is also from a powerful and prestigious household. We can’t let the bastard get away with this.”
I sighed and rubbed my scratching nose. “We don’t know for sure, Willow. It could be a bitch, too. Who has a crush on James? Anyone can do something so horrible to him. We don’t know who did this to him.”
“I could use my family’s connections to find the bastard-”
“Willow.” I turned to her. “I understand how you feel, but there’s nothing we can do. James is the only one who can find the culprit. Even if I wanna find the culprit who fucking did this horrible stuff to James.” I pointed at him and dropped my hands at my sides. “My parents will never approve of it.”
It’s not like I don’t want to help James. I truly want to catch the culprit behind this, but the problem is, how do I do that without my parents finding out about it?
“But your parents are best friends with his parents. Of course, they would wanna get involved.”
She was right. What if my parents don’t want to get involved or James’s father doesn’t want to help his son? How do we go about the situation?
“You don’t know who my parents are, Willow. They would never-” we stopped when James coughed.
“James.” We both rushed to his side. “Are you okay?” Willow questioned out of concern.
“How are you feeling?” I also questioned.
“I am fine.” He answered with a hoarse voice and smiled.
His expression was pale. White to the bone, as if he had no blood in his body.
His white clothes from the ward made him look like a ghost.
“I’m so sorry this happened to you, James.” Willow apologized as she held his pale hand.
“You don’t have to be.” He tried laughing.
“No, James. It’s not funny. I will never forgive the bastard, the scum, who did this to you,” Willow fumed in rage. “We have to find the culprit.”
“I know who he is.” He let out a slight cough.
“What!” I reacted. “You know who the culprit is?!” I questioned with my eyes wide open.
“Yes.” He replied. “He has a huge grudge against me.”
Willow snapped. “I knew it. Let’s find him and deal with his ass. His pack must hear about his evil deeds.”
“Why does he have a grudge against you? Who in his right mind would put a wolfsbane in your drink because he hates you? I don’t get it. It sounds absurd.”
“Yeah, it does, Violet.” James agreed with me and tried sitting up as Willow and I helped him up.
