Chapter 507: Consideration

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2024-11-27

In their world, marriage had always been a transaction.
Callie took a deep breath and stared at Lucia. “Does Nelson know about this?”
Lucia averted her gaze. “This is my decision alone, but I’m sure if you sign it, he will too.”
Callie understood immediately; he probably didn’t know about this yet.
A sense of reassurance settled in her heart, and she remained silent for a moment.
Lucia thought she was moved and continued, “An ectopic pregnancy?”
“This kind of thing is hard on a woman. Since the surgery is done, there’s no need to be sad about it. You’re still young; take care of your body, and you can have more children.” Lucia tried to reason with her. “I’ve heard about the studio you opened in Ylosea. I can allocate resources from my projects to help you. You can still stay by Nelson’s side without any worries.”
Callie listened to her persuasive words with a mocking smile. “Ma’ma, I remember when we were at the Kenker Hotel, you advised me to have a child to tie Nelson down. How come things have changed now?”
Lucia’s expression turned sour. “That was before. The situation has changed now.”
“Yes, it has changed. Marilyn is just preparing to take over the Ellison family, and it has already made so many people anxious. Even you are one of them.”
Winning the favor of a future daughter-in-law in advance meant not having to worry about her son’s attitude. Naturally, she would get whatever she wanted.
Lucia looked away.
“Ma’ma, what you’re saying to me now is no different from what Marilyn said. It seems you’ve really gone to great lengths to make me step aside.”
Lucia’s patience was wearing thin.
At that moment, Callie suddenly said with difficulty, “If that’s the case, give it to me. I’ll consider it.”
Lucia was taken aback; she hadn’t expected Callie to be persuaded so easily. She thought she would have to put in much more effort or even bring in the bodyguards outside to force her to sign.
“You…”
“At least give me a few days.” Callie smiled bitterly.
Lucia thought for a moment, then opened the file bag and handed a stack of papers to Callie, placing a pen in her hand.
The large words “Divorce Agreement” were glaringly obvious.
Callie didn’t look closely at the terms; she could guess that they wanted her to leave with nothing. She quickly flipped to the last page and said calmly, “You can go now.”
Lucia stood up, looking down at her. “Make a decision soon; it’s best for everyone.”
Callie clutched the papers tightly and questioned herself. If Nelson needed her to leave to turn things around, would she be willing to make way for someone better?
She closed her eyes. “Please leave; I need to rest.”
Lucia snorted coldly and left the room quickly.
Mollie returned just in time to see Lucia leaving. The two exchanged glances, and Mollie sneered, “A noble lady like you can still do something as despicable as kicking someone when they’re down. I wonder how much scorn you’ll face when this gets out.”
Now that Lucia had an ace up her sleeve, she was very arrogant. “Mind your own business.”
Mollie said nothing, watching the group leave in a grand manner. Once they were gone, she quickly returned to the room and found Callie sitting on the bed, gazing out the window.
Mollie knelt in front of Callie. “Are you okay? Did she do anything to you?”
The sunlight was a bit harsh, and Callie’s eyes were clear. She said softly, “She wants me to get a divorce.”
Mollie was momentarily incredulous. “Did you agree?”
Callie pointed to the divorce agreement beside her. “I said I’d consider it.”
