Since then, Annie has had the happiest years of her life with Jeremy.
He would sit in the designer’s studio, not reading magazines or checking his phone, just sitting there watching her change from one dress to the next.
In the dim lighting, she would walk out in a dress, and his eyes would always be amazed.
She let him choose two sets, and he couldn’t decide.
Later, that designer became Annie’s personal designer and never designed another dress for anyone else.
He didn’t completely rely on her, either. He also worked hard to make his abilities worthy of the position she had won for him, but after all, his ability to learn was not as strong as hers, and occasionally he would make mistakes.
Jeremy was usually very irritable at this time. He had had an easy time when he was young, and it was hard for him to accept any kind of setback.
He smashed the documents all over the floor.
Whenever this happened, he would think again that if he thought of some plots and tricks, they would get along much better and not have to work so hard.
Annie calmly looked at him without reproach, made him a glass of milk with a sleeping pill, and after he fell asleep, quietly picked up the documents on the floor, stacked them one by one, and began to make amends.
She did this all night.
Finally unable to bear it anymore, she leaned back on the sofa armrest and fell asleep. When she woke up at dawn, a blanket was covering her.
She went into the room, but didn’t see anyone.
When she reached the kitchen, she saw a normally well-dressed man struggling with a ball of well-fermented dough in front of the sink. His face and shirt were covered in flour, and he looked utterly miserable.
“What are you doing?”
she asked, leaning against the doorframe and looking at him.
Jeremy looked up at her, no longer the anxious man from last night, and smiled. “You’re awake? You said you wanted handmade dumplings, so I’ll make them for you.”
Annie came over and leaned against the sink to look at him. His hands were covered in batter, and she couldn’t help but say, “I’ll do it.”
This is really bad work.
“Don’t move!” Jeremy smeared the batter directly onto her face, forcing her to step back. “I said I’ll do it, and I will. Go back to bed, and you can eat when you wake up.”
Jeremy was very insistent.
Annie couldn’t say anything while she wiped the batter off her face, so she obediently went back to bed.
When she woke up again, there were indeed two plates of steaming dumplings on the table, just the shape… each one was quite unique in its ugliness.
Annie took a bite, the dough was too thick, there was too much fatty meat in the filling, and the taste was salty.
She glanced at the man in front of her, whose shirt was damp with sweat from making the dumplings, Jeremy was staring at her nervously, “What do you think?”
She picked one up and put it in her mouth, smiling, “It’s delicious.”
As she ate, Jeremy leaned over, wrapped his arms around her from the side, cupped her head in his hands, and buried his face in her neck. “What would I do without you?”
His voice was full of helplessness and guilt.
Annie sat there, letting him hold her, quietly chewing on the dumpling in her mouth.
She knew that in his own way, he was apologizing to her. He shouldn’t have gotten angry last night.
“If I ever act like that again, just leave me alone,”
he said in a muffled voice.
Annie laughed and patted his arm. “You know, you can be like a spoiled child sometimes. Not everything in the world is under your control, you have to learn to accept the unexpected.”
On hearing this, Jeremy straightened up and held out his hands. ‘The child hurt himself while cutting the meat.”
“…”
Annie looked over and saw that several of his fingers were covered in band-aids. She couldn’t help but feel distressed. ‘You could have just gone out and bought some handmade dumplings. What’s the point of making your own if it hurts?”
“It’s bleeding, blow on it,”
Jeremy coaxed her.
Annie was not as comfortable with emotions as Jeremy, and she took him seriously, grabbing his hand and blowing on it.
He looked down at her serious face and kissed her, his lips embracing hers in a delicate kiss. Her eyes were open, and in his dark eyes she saw her whole self. That kind of deep and focused love was intoxicating.
“As long as you’re not an accident,”
he said, kissing her.
She would never be an accident.
She was so kind, and he could always win a bet.
…
After marriage.
Alonso chose to leave. He couldn’t take Annie with him, and he didn’t have the face to go home, so he chose to travel around.
Jeremy really changed.
He listened to her and became cleaner and cleaner.
He no longer messed with plots and schemes, but only fought his way up within the conglomerate through legitimate means.
But just because Jeremy listened to her doesn’t mean his mother’s forces will let him grow stronger. They keep throwing all kinds of chaos at them, and the two of them are exhausted from dealing with it.
Annie can’t avoid getting caught up in it either.
She’s taken to an unfamiliar warehouse, where she’s beaten to the ground with a succession of blunt instruments until she’s barely conscious.
Her mind goes blank, and with her eyes wide open, she just watches the blood flow from under her, more and more, more and more…
She curled up in pain and covered her stomach with her hands.
When Jeremy rushed in, he just in time blocked a club that was about to fall on her head.
She watched him protect her recklessly, his face full of fear, but he pretended to be calm as he lifted his hand to wipe the blood off her face, “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid, I’ll take you away, I’ll take you away right away.”
One after another, the clubs fell on his back.
She watched him spit out a mouthful of blood, and then fainted.
After this incident, their first child was lost, and Jeremy’s mother came running up to her, making all kinds of mockery.
During that period of time, Annie felt like she was stuck in a quagmire.
Jeremy stopped everything he was doing and stayed with her in the hospital. Not only did he make delicious handmade dumplings, he also learned to make handmade ravioli and handmade noodles…
“Just pretend this child never existed, and we’ll have our first child together,”
he told her.
Annie was in pain at that time, so much so that she didn’t think about how cold and heartless his words actually were.
He was the kind of person who never let go of what he had lost.
She just lay there, looking at his haggard face as he leaned over her bed, and reached over to stroke him, telling him, “So you were living a life even more bitter than I imagined at The Gustin family’s villa.”
“As long as you get better, I won’t be miserable,”
he said.
With his meticulous care, Annie was discharged from the hospital with barely any eye closure.
The first thing she did after being discharged was to fight a dark battle for the first time in her life. She set a trap directly and drove Jeremy’s mother out of the Gustin Group. From then on, this person no longer had any substantial say in the Gustin family’s villa.
After the matter was settled, Jeremy’s way of looking at her changed a little.
“I thought you would never use these tactics,”
He sat down on the edge of the bed and offered her some milk.
“She thought that was all I had in store for her, so she pushed a little further. I just wanted her to understand that there are some tactics that I’m not incapable of, I just don’t bother with them.”
She leaned against the headboard and whispered, her hand subconsciously covering her flat stomach, “My kindness is only reserved for those who can still be saved.”
