Jeremy stood rigidly in place.
After Annie came out of the small house, Alonso was already waiting outside under the tree.
When she saw him, Alonso walked up silently, took her suitcase and walked out. Annie frowned at him and said, “You didn’t need to come and pick me up.”
“When I left, I promised the elders of the family that I would bring you back safely,” Alonso said.
It was late at night, the place was secluded, and taxis were not easy to come by, so the two of them walked along the road.
The street lamps shone eerily in the night, illuminating the road that seemed to go on forever. Alonso was silent the whole way.
Annie looked down and said, “I have betrayed the Davis family, and the elders will never forgive me.”
As she finished speaking, a jade plaque was handed to her.
She was a little taken aback, and Alonso looked at her and said, “This is a chance for the elders to give you a chance to repent.”
As long as she was willing to go back, the Davis family would still accept her.
Annie took it and let out a bitter smile, “Actually, I don’t regret it, I’m just a little sad that I couldn’t change him.”
“What exactly do you like about him? The Gustin family’s villa is full of hidden conflicts, it’s simply not a place for you.”
Alonso looked at her in puzzlement. What kind of love would make her give up her family?
Hearing this, Annie walked along the roadside, looking down at her feet. After a long time, she said, “I don’t know. I just feel so sorry for him. He’s fallen into a quagmire of other people’s schemes, and I want to pull him up.”
But she discovered that he seemed to be more comfortable in the quagmire.
Perhaps she really was wrong.
She thought she was saving him, but he didn’t need saving at all.
“You should take care of yourself first,” Alonso frowned.
Hearing this, Annie suddenly understood why she could not fall in love with Alonso. There are people in the world who like to be taken care of, and there are people who like to be needed.
And she is the latter.
The two of them just walked on, when suddenly, two blinding lights shone brightly.
The two of them retreated to the side of the road, but the car did not move forward, just stopped in the middle of the road, and the lights went out.
Annie stood on the roadside and looked over. Under the dim streetlight, the black car was parked there quietly. Jeremy was sitting in the driver’s seat, his face expressionless, his eyes fixed on the two of them, one hand holding the steering wheel tightly.
“Don’t mind him, let’s go,” Annie said indifferently, turning around and continuing to walk.
Since she had decided to leave, she didn’t care what he thought.
Alonso followed, and from behind came the sound of the car starting. Suddenly, the sound of tires rapidly screeching and burning the road surface came.
Annie couldn’t help but turn around, and saw Jeremy driving the car towards Alonso. Annie was shocked, and hurriedly pushed Alonso to the side, while she stumbled to his position.
The headlights illuminated her face.
Jeremy stared at her, his pupils shaking. After he reacted, he swerved the steering wheel sharply and crashed head-on into a tree.
There was a loud noise.
The accident happened in an instant.
The entire front of the car was dented.
Annie rushed over, forcefully opened the car door, and saw Jeremy sitting in the driver’s seat. The airbag had not deployed for some reason, and he was covered in blood, his face pale, unconscious.
“Jeremy?”
Annie froze, nervously patting his face, “Wake up, wake up.”
Jeremy was awakened by her patting, and his eyelashes fluttered as he opened his eyes. A drop of blood was falling down his eye, and he stared at her, his vision foggy.
He pulled the corners of his mouth in mockery, “You’re so attached to him, you’re standing in front of him, and what are you doing with me in The Capital?”
He looked very weak.
Annie looked at the blood that was still dripping from his hair, and she didn’t know how badly he was hurt. She was suddenly a little confused, and she turned her head to find Alonso for help.
Her wrist was suddenly grabbed.
She looked down. Jeremy tried to sit up straighter, but the seat belt was so tight that he couldn’t move. He held out his hand to hold her wrist, and his eyes stared at her with a mixture of resentment and pain.
“Leave after giving me a little sweetness, Annie. You’re not that heartless,”
he said between clenched teeth, his teeth full of blood.
“Stop talking,” Annie frowned.
Alonso called an ambulance, and when Jeremy was being carried into the ambulance, he held onto Annie’s hand so tightly that she had no choice but to get in the ambulance with him.
Oxygen was hooked up, and an IV was set up.
Jeremy lay in the ambulance with his eyes closed, muttering something the whole time.
Annie sat there for a long time, looking at the man in front of her, before she lowered her head to listen.
“I’ll change, okay…”
“I’ll be clean…”
“You’re all I have…”
He muttered and repeated these words over and over again, his knuckled fingers holding hers tightly.
Annie looked down at her hand, which was beginning to hurt from the grip, and her heart sank.
Perhaps there really is such a thing as fate in this world.
Jeremy is Annie’s destiny, for no reason, no right or wrong.
No one can stop a girl from falling in love with a devil who has been in an abyss for too long, like a moth to a flame.
…
Jeremy woke up in a hospital room, with a headache and feeling dizzy.
The room was empty, so he unplugged the IV and supported himself against the bed as he got up. He walked to the window and pulled the curtains open.
As if he had a hunch, he looked out and saw Alonso talking to Annie in the pavilion downstairs.
They seemed to be arguing, and neither of them looked well.
Suddenly, they stopped talking and just stood there in silence, not knowing what to think.
After a long while, Alonso took two steps back and suddenly knelt down towards Annie.
Jeremy saw Annie’s shocked eyes and hesitation on her face.
“…”
Jeremy stood in front of the window, one hand twisting the curtain, twisting it so hard that the veins on the back of his hand stood out.
Suddenly, he didn’t dare to look anymore, and he pulled the curtain up with one hand, standing there with heavy breathing.
He walked to the door and leaned against the wall next to it counting the time.
He had never felt time drag on so long before, so slowly that he could count every drop of medicine dripping from the infusion bag.
Until the sound of very quiet footsteps came from the silent hospital room.
Annie walked in from the door. Seeing that there was no one in the bed and the infusion bag was dripping, she thought that something had gone wrong again and hurriedly tried to go out. “Doctor…”
The voice stopped abruptly.
She looked at Jeremy leaning against the wall. Jeremy stood there with a white face, his eyes fixedly watching the tension on her face.
“You didn’t go, and I won the bet again,” he said.
“Then congratulations, I’m now part of your control,”
she said with a relieved expression.
On hearing this, Jeremy’s breathing quickened, and he pulled her into his arms and kissed her down, forcefully and recklessly.
Annie struggled, biting him on the lips. Jeremy did not dodge, but instead became even more reckless, as if he wanted to plunder even her breath, and the smell of blood spread between their lips.
He held her tightly in his arms, kissing her lips and her ears–
“Annie, marry me.”
