When had he gotten here? I wondered, not bothering to turn aside to look at the human that had come to stand beside me.
Why was he here? Obviously he had heard the content of my mock speech to Raul, but who said he could join the discussion? Well, what do I know, this place was his territory.
“What are you doing here?”
Nice question, Raul. I thought, making taps on the table with my finger, as if a question hadn’t been directed to me earlier.
“I don’t remember passing a remark to you, wizard..”
Okay, that was a low, Adam. What the hell was he doing? Was he that petty to pick a fight with Raul just because I had mentioned that Raul was more handsome than he and his brothers.
How right could the word bastard be at this point?
I watch a server advance towards us, with our order I presume, her eyebrows furrowed, probably wondering why Adam was at our table.
My eyes found Claire and Rachel too. They seemed to be conniving wordlessly on how to throw me to hell. This wasn’t good. It appears that the former had returned to the clique when I had left them. Shameless.
“Naomi, do you know of some other place we can eat, without getting disturbed by a wormhole?” I asked Naomi, immediately the server got to our table, earning gasps from the tables surrounding ours.
Oh, everyone was tuning in. Great. Perhaps, he would have an inkling of the embarrassment I had felt when I had been stoned with food and all manner of junk at my last visit in the school’s cafeteria.
Naomi opened her mouth, then shut it, probably at loss at what to say. Maybe, she couldn’t believe either that I was blasting the most handsome dude in the county.
Well, they can go to hell for all I care. I mused, getting up from my seat.
“Raul, do you have a better idea of the landscapes of this pack? You must have been here more than twice now, right?”
Raul nodded.
“Then could you please lead us somewhere else where we could enjoy this meal in peace? I think our food is ready.” I mentioned, surprised at my boldness, taking the tray from the server’s hand, the one that had me and Diana’s meal.
Without still looking at Adam, I walked after Raul who had taken the initiative to lead in front. Nice gentleman, I would have to agree. Maybe he is different from his siblings.
“Where do you think you are going?” Adam asked, his voice guttural, like it was torn out of the deepest part of his soul.
Two times have I ever seen him lose his guard over his emotions. When we had sex, and when he had stood up for me against his father.
Oh, how could I forget? And the time when he had beaten me to death.
There was a time I would have pissed my pants at the sound of that voice, but not today, not the new Maya.
I thought of stopping, and continuing the tease, but I was hungry and had no strength for that, so I continued as if he hadn’t spoken.
A smile appeared on my face when Diana hopped happily, held my hand, and literally made me walk faster by increasing her walking paces, or rather by jogging to the exit of the cafeteria.
We were almost out of the eatery, when I felt a hand on my shoulder, a hand that dragged me to its confines in a rough manner, causing the food tray to fall to the floor, and its contents to splash on the ground.
For a minute, everywhere was still. I looked at the splashed contents, after shrugging away from Adam’s hold, and fisted my hands-the episode from the cafeteria flashing vividly through my mind.
The similarity caused me to bark out a laugh and hold out a hand against Raul who had sauntered toward Adam, maybe to engage him in a fight. His twin and his elder brother were on their feet, ready to avert a fight if it ever came to that.
“What was that for, Adam?” I asked, looking at him for the second time since he stepped foot into the cafeteria.
“Oh, now, you look at me…” He scoffed, and folded his arms across his chest.
That was his deal? That I ignored him? That’s why he was acting like a depraved kid deprived of a lollipop?
Anger washed over me.
They had bullied me, hadn’t expected me to be saved either, and when I had thought to be saved, they had killed me. And just because he was ignored by some girl that refused to fuck him, he is going crazy.
I laughed wildly again, aware that Diana was looking at me unsurely-not sure why I was laughing.
I bent down, and picked the cake that had splashed, pretending to admire it. I threw it the next second though on Adam’s face, laughing when a shout broke out in the eatery.
Noah and Daniel came to stand beside him.
“Oh really, brothers in arms against a lady? You both should be ashamed of yourself. I should throw a cup of cake on your faces too. Too bad I ordered only one.”
I snickered at their display of anger and shock, placing my hands on my hips.
“Do you know that more than fifty percent of the population are in hunger and penury, and here you are wasting foods, because a girl that refused to fuck you, probably the first girl to do so, ignored you?? You are a fucking brat, but you already know that, don’t you? It’s weird that the queen will want to latch her daughter to a guy who doesn’t know how to control his penis around women. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are little Adams running around the pack, unknown to you.”
The triplets blanched. Paled to their roots.
I had heightened my tone so that everyone could hear my voice, so that they wouldn’t be able to escape the embarrassments. `I hadn’t been able to in my turn. They had made it so obvious.
They had humiliated me, and it was time for them to have a taste of their medicine.
