Chapter 68
The morning came longer than the princess had expected. “Perhaps it’s because I went to bed early the previous night.” She thought as she was surprised at the time she woke up. She knew that she had not woken up early like that in a long time. She recalled what transpired between them yesterday and her heart became heavy as she was sad. “How could he still not see the effort I was putting into this relationship, or whatever it is called.” She asked herself as she leaned backward to rest her back on the pillow and yawned. Her mind wandered off to different places, but she was jolted by the sudden sound of her ringing phone.
“Who is it at this time of the morning?” She whispered to herself as she tilted her head sharply to see the screen of her phone but hissed as she saw who was calling her, tossing her phone to the far end of the bed. She heaved a sigh as she came off the bed, contemplating whether to go to his room or just leave him alone like he had asked. “But he might be better than how he was last night t.” She thought before finally deciding to go and visit him in his room.
She walked out of her room slowly, holding her hands behind her back. Different thoughts ran through her mind as she walked to his room, and suddenly, she came up with an idea. “What if I prepare him breakfast?” That should get him to feel better. “At least now that is an opening in his heart, I would go in through that hole.” She thought, heaving a sigh before she walked away from the in the direction of the kitchen. As soon as she stepped into the kitchen, the maids present, bowed their heads to greet her.
“Good morning.” They all greeted in unison as they bowed their head. She tilted her head slowly to see each of them before clearing her throat slightly to respond to their greetings.
“How are you all doing?” She asked, and they tilted their head to look at each other before they responded.
“We are fine. How are you doing?” They asked, and she nodded her head slightly before she responded.
“I am fine. What’s it for breakfast?” She asked, and they told her what they were making for breakfast.
“I want you to prepare his favorite for breakfast.” She said, and they paused what they were doing to look at each other before she walked out of the kitchen and headed to Alpha Damon’s room. Not long after, she arrived at his door and took a deep breath before she knocked on the door.
“Come in.” She heard from inside almost immediately she knocked on the door, and she moved back a little before she tilted the knob to open the door. As soon as his eyes fell on her, he gasped in shock, almost unnoticed. “Perhaps, he is surprised that I was up this early.” She thought as she walked in slowly.
“You are up so early.” He said in a low tone, and she heaved a sigh, moving closer to him.
“Good morning, alpha Damon.” She said slowly as if she were counting her words as she spoke them.
“Good morning. I don’t need to ask if you had a great night. I know you had one, if not, you would not be up this early.” He said, and she made a scrunching face, trying to understand what he had just said.
“How did you expect me to have a great night when you yelled at me before bed? Trust me, I wanted to come back to check on you last night, but I did not want you to tell me again.” She said, and Alpha Damon chuckled dryly as he heard what she had just said.
“I told you yesterday. You noticed that I was not in a good mood, yet you still kept pestering me. I did not tell intentionally at you.” He said as he made the final touches on his dressing.
“Well, I will take that if you promise not to yell at me anymore.” She said, and he tilted his head slightly to look at her, not uttering a single word in response to what she had said.
“I want to get to work so early. I need to complete some work of yesterday that I could not finish. I need every minute of my time today.” He said in a low tone as he heaved a sigh and started to walk towards the door.
“Wait, if at all you don’t want to promise me never to yell at me again, at least you can eat breakfast with me before going to work. You refused to eat dinner yesterday and went to bed hungry. You should not go to work hungry.” She said and focused on his body language to see if he was going to hesitate, but he did not at all. He only thought for a while and checked his wristwatch, before he shook his head to agree.
“We could make it snappy. I told you I need every minute that I can get today.” He said, and she nodded, smiling sheepishly as she walked behind him until they were out of the room.
“Prepare your taste buds because I had them prepare your favorite for breakfast.” She said, and he halted his steps immediately, tilting his head to look at her for a while before talking.
“When did you ask them to prepare it?” He asked as he furrowed his eyebrows to make him look curious.
“Just before I came into your room.” She replied, and he heaved a sigh as he had no choice but to smile. “Perhaps he is gradually forgetting about her. I have to tell Alpha Jude to start upping his game in getting Ava. This would be the best time to get her.” She thought as they arrived at the dining table. The smell of his favorite food filled the whole room, which made his mouth water as he opened the closed plate before him.
“You should eat fast. You need to be at the office earlier today.” He said as he munched on his food. She nodded her head slightly, smiling as she tilted her head away from him to look at her food before she started to eat.
“Are you enjoying your meal?” She asked, and he nodded his head, trying not to utter a word as his mouth was filled. Not long after, he was done with his meal and he took the glass of wine in front of him to sip.
“Shall I drop you at the office?” He asked, but she smiled and shook her head to decline the offer, as she had other plans before she came to the office.
“Thank you very much for the offer, but I am afraid I will have to wait for next time. I need to take care of something before heading to the office. I am sorry.” She said, and he shook his head slightly as he stood up from the chair.
“It’s fine. We wait for next time then.” He said and she nodded. He packed his stuff and walked out of the house. Her eyes were fixed on him as he walked away until he was out of sight and out of the house. She heaved a sigh as different thoughts flashed through her mind. “Could this be the beautiful beginning that I always read in books and watched in movies?” She asked herself as she stood up from the chair and headed back to her room.
She reached for her phone and decided to call Alpha Jude. Just when she was about to dial his contact, her phone suddenly began to ring and he was the one calling.
“Are you listening to my thoughts? I was just about to call you before your call came in.” She said, and he cleared his throat slightly. She knew he was about to say something serious, as he had just cleared his throat.
“We were unable to meet and discuss the next phase of the plan yesterday. I hope today won’t be like that.” He said, and she made a scrunching face, trying to understand what he had just said.
“You were the one who called to take a rain check yesterday.” She said in a sharp time, and he replied almost immediately.
“Yeah, I know that. Why the sudden reminder?” He asked, and she heaved a sigh before he talked.
“You sounded as if it were my fault that we did not meet to discuss the next phase of the plan.” She said slowly as if she were counting her words as she spoke them.
“So we would be meeting today. Normal time.” He said sharply, and she nodded her head as if he could see her doing it.
“Yes. And I think you should call Ava.” She said in a low tone as if she were whispering.
“Call Ava? What for?” He asked, and she could tell how shocked he was by his tone.
“I think she would be getting a leave from the office. You can use that time to bond with her and your baby.” She said, and there was a moment of silence over the phone before he cleared his throat to talk.
“Okay. Thank you, I will do that. Don’t forget to come over later.” He said, and the call ended abruptly. She heaved a sigh and tossed her phone to the other side of the bed before walking into the bathroom to take her bath.
