Chapter 52
Sighing as he walked into the house, Alpha Damon flung his jacket on the couch and watched a maid scramble to get it, taking his tie off carelessly and giving it the same fate as his jacket.
Not only was he just physically exhausted, he was mentally so too. The aroma of deliciousness filled his nostrils, making his mouth water.
Maybe having a meal before he freshened up was not so much of a bad idea, he thought as he walked towards the dining table.
Princess was already seated with her back to him, she muttered a welcome, and he replied with a thank you as he walked to his usual spot.
The table was silent as they both focused on feeding their selves. He was grateful that Princess’s usual bubbly and talkative self was quiet today because all he wanted was to eat and have a good night of rest.
He could feel her eyes on him, but he ignored them, staring back at her would only provoke questions, questions that she probably would not give him any answers to.
“We never finished our conversation from the other day.” She finally voiced her thoughts. Alpha Damon sighed as he braced himself for a few more minutes of talking. It was Princess, after all, so less was not expected.
“Yeah,” Alpha Damon replied, he knew what she meant, and he had not forgotten. He was just really occupied with more pressing issues that he had let that one marinate for a while.
“Well, do you mind if we continue from where we stopped?” Princess asked, she seemed too eager like there was something too special or important about what she wanted him to know.
He figured from how she was acting that she did not want to tell him just anything, he knew Princess, that much.
“Well, I do not mind.” Alpha Damon said, setting his spoon aside and focusing his attention on her. Resting his elbows on the table, he clasped his hands together and leaned his chin on it, his eyes not leaving her.
He watched her scroll through her phone like she did the last time, and he prepared himself for what was going next.
She slid the phone over to him, gasping when it almost dropped off the edge of the table, but alpha Damon was fast, so he caught it before it hit the floor.
Turning the phone around, he glanced at her one last time before he turned his gaze to the phone. He was greeted by the same picture he saw last time.
A woman cradled in a man’s arms, he could not see both their faces as they were out of frame, but again, the woman’s body looked strikingly familiar.
“Who are these?” He asked when he stared for too long and still did not understand why she showed it to him.
“Swipe left, to the next picture,” Princess said calmly, she was sitting leaning comfortably on her seat. She did not look relaxed, but he resisted pointing that out to her.
He glanced at her before he swiped left as if asking if she was sure about him seeing the next slide. His thumb swiped left and his gaze followed.
His breath caught in his throat at the sight that greeted him. No wonder the body had looked so familiar. It was a body he was conversant with.
She looked relaxed, asleep in his arms and his face was buried in the crook of her neck, a smile plastered on it, he could make that out by how his lips lifted on the side of his face that was visible in the photo.
The man in the photo looked nothing like Alpha Jude, and that could only mean one thing. Ava was seeing someone else outside himself and alpha Jude.
He could have never imagined her being a whore but, he guessed, these things are not just things you could make out from a person’s behavior.
Ava seemed cultured and respectable yet here were photos of her on a man’s arm naked like they say she was born. He was pained that she even looked this comfortable.
“Where did you find these?” He asked, his gaze fixed on Princess this time. She looked terrified by him, he could tell by how her words jumbled up as she tried to speak, and her eyes wavered instead of being focused on him.
Alpha Damon could understand why, he had a murderous rage, and it reflected in his eyes.
“Someone sent them to me,” Princess said.
He wanted to believe her, but he could not. That did not make him ask any more questions. Alpha Damon knew it was going to be hard, very difficult to trust anything Princess or any other woman said.
Ava had scarred him for life. He loved her, but she had gone to frolic with another man like he meant nothing, like what they had meant nothing.
His gaze lingered on the photos for a little longer, he swiped through each one of them, taking them in one after the other.
She looked just as beautiful as ever, but his blood boiled, she was that beautiful in another man’s arms, arms that were not his, and she looked comfortable and happy.
What if they had just finished making love before taking these pictures, or perhaps they did it after? The thought of it hurt so much, that he banished it from his mind.
He had shunned every woman because of her, he had left his playboy lifestyle and focused on getting her, just her. That was how much he loved her.
Enough to want to change, enough to go through any lengths to have her, and now this? His eyes lifted to meet princess’s when he heard her clear her throat.
“I am sorry, but that is not all.” She said, and alpha Damon could feel his heart sink even lower into his stomach.
This was heartbreaking enough, but knowing there was more was just something else. What more could there be? Was there another person? Who was he? Why would she be seeing multiple men at once?
Anger boiled through his veins and he fought to hold himself together. His wolf raged inside him, and he could feel the vein pop and pulse in his temple.
“What more is there?” Alpha Jude asked, his interest peaked. He wanted to hear it, wanted to know what else she had been hiding, and to think he thought so highly of her.
“Ava is pregnant,” Princess said, and alpha Jude could swear his soul left his body. “For him.” She added, pointing a lean finger at the phone in his hand.
Alpha Damon let her words sink in for a minute, he had expected something else, not quite sure, but something apart from this. She was his mate for fuck’s sake, and she should be carrying his children, not some stranger’s.
Holding the phone felt like a chore, so he let it go, allowing it to drop with a thud on the table. There was a roller coaster of emotions going through his entire being.
Everything from heartbreak to embarrassment. He had tried to be faithful, all because of her, he pushed Princess away at all cost and what did he get in return?
He had felt guilty when he finally gave to Princess’s advances, while she was freely and without an iota of self-respect or even some for him given to sleep with another man and even was with child for him.
It was all too much, too much to take in, too much to bear, too much to feel. He wanted to get away, he did not know where, but away somewhere quiet, somewhere where he could scream out this anger and pain.
Abruptly, getting up from the table, he walked out of the dining room, heading straight for the main door. He had to go out, he had to be out. Those were the only words that rang through his head as he walked away.
Paying deaf ears to Princess’s calls, she looked genuinely worried about him, and he wanted to give her an explanation.
That he did not want to be around anyone, that he was hurt and wanted to be out in the open, somewhere he could let out his anger and hurt without hurting anyone.
But he could not, his feet just carried him on and when he got to the door he walked out, princess stopped following him when she got to the door.
It was cold out and all she had was a tiny robe that barely covered her up and left very little to the imagination. She could not come out after him like that, thankfully.
Transforming into his wolf, alpha Damon dashed into the woods. Howling furiously as he did, making the branches shake and leaves rustle as this bellowing. He ran deeper and deeper in, without a care, all he could think about was Ava and how she had betrayed him.
