Chapter 26
Alpha Jude transformed into his human form as he got close to the house, walking in as he got to the door, nodding at the guards who stood in attention and the maids who bowed in respect and greetings.
He heard fussing upstairs and his footsteps hurried, as he climbed.
“What is going on?” He asked as he saw a group of maids gather around what looked like a body.
The maids stuttered or screamed, and he pushed past them but halted at the sight, a gasp escaped his lips as he bent to examine.
Ava lay on the floor like she had collapsed, unmoving. Grabbing her hands, he checked her wrist and neck for a pulse, sighing I’m relief when he found a weakness on her neck.
“What happened to her?” He asked, directing the question to no one in particular as he scooped her up in his arms and walked back into her room, which was just a few feet away.
“We have no idea, sir, she just slumped, and I found her” a maid answered with a shaking voice.
“Call the physician.” He said as he dropped her on the bed, watching the maid scramble out of the room to get the said physician.
With a wave of his hand, he dismissed the rest of the maids, sending them back to their various duties while he sat beside Ava.
His hands found hers, and he held on loosely, her skin was cold, too cold yet her forehead had beads of sweat that looked like she was hot.
His fingers wiped at the slightly and he patted her softly.
She looked sick, how come he had not noticed? He asked himself as he watched her pale face Intently, she looked so sick anyone would have noticed, except he had not.
Letting the other things crowd his mind and letting her successfully push him away, Without even as much as a fight.
“Alpha Jude,” the voice of the sturdy old man who was mist woods the best physician sounded from the door, drawing him out of his thoughts.
“Mica.” Alpha Jude called as he stood up as a sign of respect.
“What happened?” He asked as he walked closer to the bed.
“I have no idea, I just came in from a walk and found her passed out on the floor.” alpha Jude answers, his voice distressed.
“Let me take a look at her,” Mica said as he examined her.
“What is it?” Alpha Jude asked, confused at his expression which changed every few seconds as he continued with the examination.
“Shhh.”Mica shushed him, raising a finger to sign.
Alpha Jude stood rooted at the side of the room, watching with intent interest as the old man did his thing.
His face creased into a frown when he heard Mica sigh again for the umpteenth time.
“There is nothing wrong with her, she just needs a lot of rest,” Mica said as he packed his things into the bag one after the other, taking his sweet precious time.
“What do you mean?” Aloha, Jude asked frustrated. “She slumped and has a fever, and you are stung she is fine?”
“Alpha Jude, Ava is fine,” Mica repeated as he picked up his bag and strutted to where Alpha Jude stood mortified.
“What do you even mean by that?” Alpha Jude asked again.
“Ava is pregnant,” Mica said with a straight face.
“What?” alpha Jude asked, a surprised look on his face.
“Yes, she is pregnant and this is just one of the early symptoms.” He said.
“How? What do you mean?” Alpha Jude asked, confused.
He and Ava had not been intimate since she called off the engagement, which means the baby is likely not his except she had already conceived before the engagement was called off
“I will take my leave now,” Mica said as he walked out of the door, leaving a surprised alpha Jude standing beside Ava’s bed.
He was determined to wait by her bedside until she came to, he needed answers only she could provide.
Alpha Jude sighed in relief when she stirred and her eyes opened slowly.
“What happened?” Ava asked.
“You collapsed, I called in Mica, and he checked you out, he just left.” alpha Jude said, forcing himself to be calm and not rush her.
“What did he say is the problem?” She asked again, sitting up on the bed and looking at him weirdly.
“And why do you look like that?” she asked, looking at him intently.
“Like what?” Alpha Jude asked, he knew exactly what she meant by that.
“Like you would explode with anger any moment from now.” She stated plainly.
“Because I just might explode anytime from now Ava.” alpha Jude said, struggling so hard to be calm.
“Did you know what he said after examining you?” He asked, rubbing his palms together to steady himself.
“What did he say that got you looking like that?” Ava asked.
“Am I dying? do I have some type of terminal illness that would kill me slowly?” She asked in one breath, not pausing to give him a chance to answer.
Alpha Jude kept quiet and watched her yap on if he was not so
angry, maybe he would have complimented her on how she looked so cute when she yapped like that.
But he was not desiring that, he was serious right now.
“You are pregnant Ava.” was all he said and Ava went silent, mute even.
Her face fell and her eyes watered. He did not know what to make of it, was she happy? Was it tears of joy? Was she sad? Was she disappointed?
All these questions ran through his mind as he sat there watching her expressionless face.
“Is the child mine?” alpha Jude asked the one question that would either make or break him.
He needed to know certainly, if it was not his he was sure it was alpha Damon’s.
“I have to go somewhere,” Ava said as she jumped out of the bed with tears In her eyes.
“Answer me, Ava!” Alpha Jude bellowed, making her stop in her tracks.
She slowly turned, her head shaking as she stared at him, her hands were trembling and he could see.
She only did that when she got as sacred and the ACA he knew was never scared.
His heart raced in his chest as her lips moved and just when he thought he would get an answer from her, she dashed out of the room, leaving him standing there and watching the slightly open door behind her.
Ava ran outside the house, as fast as her legs could carry her. She could barely see as the tests clouded her sight, but she still ran, transforming into her wolf as she ran into the thick wood.
With no particular place in mind, she went further and further. Until she could I longer run?
Panting, she stopped, looking around her at the unfamiliar woods that surrounded her. She needed to get as far away from Alpha Jude as possible.
The child was not his, it was not, there was no way it was his.
She had been having unprotected sex with alpha Damon for a while now. The child was most definitely his, but he did not have to know.
She would not tell him, or the alpha
Jude, all she had to do was sleep it to herself. She alone knew the father of her unborn child.
Transforming back into her human form, Ava sat on the wet great grass that covered a spot, sighing in relief she leaned on a tree.
Hugging her legs to herself, she cried into her arms. Her emotions overflowed as she sat.
What had she been thinking, having sex with alpha Damon in the first place?
And now being pregnant for him, first, it was being his mate and carrying his child?
Signing distressed, Ava stood up and wiped her eyes, finding her way back home
She would face Alpha Jude, she did not have to tell him anything, she would rather not.
Although she could tell he suspected and even had a hunch about who the real father of her child was, she still would not admit it to him
Finding her way back, Ava walked into the house, her clothes were soiled and torn from where she had run into the woods, brushing against branches and stubs.
She even had a slight cut on her arm, but she ignored it and walked straight to her room.
Freshening up, she climbed into her bed and waited for dinner time, she had no appetite, but she wanted to eat, for her child.
Ava knew she would do anything for the little bean that was growing in her stomach, she would do all it takes, and be twice as strong if she had to.
Slowly, she drifted into a distressed sleep, her weary Bones thanking her as she hugged the duvet closer to her body.
