Chapter 504: Choosing to Conceal

As Bridger’s expression grew increasingly complex, he turned and went back inside. When he reemerged, he had his personal phone to his ear, but no one answered.
Bridger knew Nelson well. If Nelson knew what had happened, he would drop everything to see Callie. But now, no one was answering.
“He’s not picking up?”
“Mollie, Nelson has important matters to handle right now. It’s not convenient to disturb him.”
“Isn’t Callie’s situation important?” she asked incredulously.
Bridger hesitated, seemingly torn, but ultimately chose to conceal the truth. “You said it yourself, she’s been resuscitated, which means she’s fine for now. It can wait.”
“Bridger!” Mollie glared at him. “You haven’t experienced a life-and-death moment. She almost died, do you understand?”
“I know!” Bridger gripped her arm tightly and spoke quickly. “But I also know that Nelson is responsible for the lives of tens of thousands of employees right now.”
Mollie listened and laughed bitterly. She slowly pulled away. “So you’re not planning to tell Nelson?”
Bridger averted his gaze. “He cares too much about Callie. If he knew, he would lose his composure. We need to wait until this matter is resolved.”
“And you, do you think the same?” Mollie looked at the subordinate with disappointment.
“I… Miss Mollie, Mr. Kaiser isn’t entirely wrong…” The subordinate struggled and finally said, “I’ll arrange for the best medical care for Mrs. Oconnor right away.”
“That’s not necessary!” Mollie turned and walked away in anger. She stopped suddenly, back facing Bridger. “If I were in a car accident, would you treat me the same way?”
“… That scenario doesn’t apply.”
Mollie left.
“Aren’t you going after her, Mr. Kaiser?”
“Forget it.” After a long pause, Bridger withdrew his gaze and immediately called Nelson’s office in Ylosea.
“Mr. Oconnor did return last night, but he flew back to Afupshire this morning. The plane just took off not long ago.”
There was a sense of finality in the air.
The doctor’s concern that Callie might not wake up did not come true. She woke up the next day. The attending physician breathed a sigh of relief and told Mollie, “She has a strong will to live and hasn’t lost hope in this world. That’s good.”
Mollie felt a mix of emotions. She could guess why Callie had such a strong will to live…
Callie was transferred to a regular ward and needed a long period of recovery. Lying in the hospital bed, she looked as fragile as a broken porcelain doll.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I’m fine… I was prepared for this; the child had to be aborted eventually. Don’t worry about me,” Callie forced a smile. “By the way, how’s the financial center?”
Mollie held Callie’s hand tightly. “Just rest for now. We’ll talk about it later, okay?”
Callie still wore an oxygen mask, her breath forming a thin mist on it. She shook her head with difficulty. “Can you tell me how Oconnor Group is doing now?”
Mollie stood by her side and turned her head away to hide her sadness.
“… Mollie?”
“Oh, nothing’s wrong. Nelson is fine, you know him. With his methods, no one can do anything to him. Don’t worry.” Mollie couldn’t meet Callie’s eyes.
Exhausted, Callie finally felt at ease and fell asleep.
In the following days, life seemed unchanged.
