Lord Valerian frowned and quickly dodged.
Crack!
A bullet hit the ground, sparking a series of sparks.
Lord Valerian gave Chris a deep look, then turned and disappeared into the darkness again.
Watching Lord Valerian’s retreating figure, Chris’s expression was extremely grave.
Chris did not pursue, knowing Lord Valerian’s speed was so fast that he couldn’t catch up even if he tried.
“Who is helping me?”
Chris looked at the shell casings on the ground, his face full of confusion.
Originally, Chris had intended to lure Lord Valerian out and kill him.
But unexpectedly, Lord Valerian’s strength was beyond his imagination.
Trying to kill Lord Valerian was almost an extremely difficult task.
Chris couldn’t help but look helpless; failing to kill his opponent meant his own days ahead would be tough.
Having such a powerful enemy lurking in the shadows meant he had to be on edge at all times.
By the time Chris got home, it was already ten o’clock at night.
Esther and Juliette had already gone to their rooms to sleep.
“Seraphina!”
Suddenly, Chris noticed someone sitting on the sofa.
It was none other than Seraphina.
Chris looked at Seraphina, frowning, “Seraphina, what are you doing here? Were you the one shooting earlier?”
At that moment, Seraphina, dressed in a long gown that perfectly accentuated her figure, looked at Chris and smiled, suddenly producing a firearm in her hand.
Seeing this, Chris understood that it was indeed Seraphina who had helped him.
Curiously, Chris asked, “Seraphina, what brings you to the East Coast?”
Seraphina’s expression turned serious, “Mr. Shelby, you are in danger.”
Chris frowned, “Are you talking about the practitioner from earlier?”
Seraphina nodded, “Yes! Mr. Shelby, do you know who that person is?”
Chris shook his head, “I don’t know, I’ve never seen him before.”
Seraphina’s expression became complex, “His name is Lord Valerian, and he was the Primus of Amerosia in the previous generation! Ten years ago, he suddenly conspired with Quartz Ridge to rebel against Amerosia, nearly taking over Middleton. Later, he was defeated by your master, who is also my father, and was imprisoned in the Obsidian Citadel.”
“What?”
Chris looked shocked.
Chris hadn’t expected that the person from earlier was Lord Valerian, the former Primus of Amerosia.
No wonder his strength was so formidable, even challenging Chris’s own abilities.
Chris asked in confusion, “Obsidian Citadel, known as the most secure prison in Amerosia, how did Lord Valerian escape from there?”
The last time someone escaped from Obsidian Citadel was Shura, but that was because Daniel Williams deliberately let him out.
This time, another terrifying figure, Lord Valerian, had escaped from Obsidian Citadel; could it be that he was also intentionally released by someone?
Seeming to read Chris’s thoughts, Seraphina took a deep breath, “You guessed right, Lord Valerian was indeed intentionally released to kill you!”
Chris scoffed, “If someone from Obsidian Citadel is releasing people to kill me, it must be either Daniel Williams or someone from the Frost family or the Noire family.”
Obsidian Citadel is a stronghold of Amerosia, off-limits to most.
Daniel Williams, being a powerful figure in Amerosia, had the capability to release Shura.
Similarly, the Frost and Noire families, being among the ten noble families, also had the power to release someone from Obsidian Citadel.
Seraphina said, “I don’t know yet who let Lord Valerian out, but his strength is formidable, Mr. Shelby, you must be careful!”
Upon hearing this, Chris’s face turned sour. He too had felt Lord Valerian’s formidable power; had their fight continued, it was uncertain who would have fallen. Chris nodded, “I understand, I’ll be careful.”
“Mr. Shelby, I plan to stay here tonight,” Seraphina suddenly declared.
“Eh?”
At her words, Chris was momentarily stunned. He remembered the last time Seraphina stayed over; it had left his home in disarray. Now she intended to stay again-was she trying to drive him mad?
“Alright! Mr. Shelby, I’m going to take a bath first,” Seraphina said, and without waiting for Chris to respond, she headed off to bathe.
About half an hour later, Seraphina emerged from her bath, dressed in a nightgown and headed straight for the guest room.
At the same time, Juliette, groggy and disoriented, came out of her room. She suddenly saw a woman in a nightgown entering the guest room.
“Who is that? Could it be Esther? Or am I seeing things?”
Juliette shook her head, dismissing the thought, and returned to her room.
In the guest room, Chris stared at Seraphina, dumbfounded.
“Seraphina, what are you-”
Smiling at Chris, Seraphina asked, “Mr. Shelby, do you find me beautiful?”
“I-”
At that moment, Chris truly didn’t know what to say. Seraphina’s nightgown was far too revealing.
“Seraphina, you sleep here, I’ll step out!”
he said, taking a deep breath and turning to leave. He feared that staying might lead to something regrettable.
Seraphina was like a siren, constantly challenging his resolve as a man. Watching Chris leave, a sly smile crept across her face.
Chris went to the living room and unexpectedly ran into Esther.
“Darling, why haven’t you gone to sleep yet?”
she asked curiously.
Chuckling nervously, Chris replied, “Darling, I just stepped out for a bit, I’ll be heading to bed shortly.”
At the moment, Chris couldn’t let Esther know about Seraphina’s presence. Especially given Seraphina’s seductive attire!
If Esther were to see her, with her jealous nature, she would definitely be upset. Esther frowned slightly and glanced in the direction of the guest room.
“Darling, did you just come from the guest room?”
As she moved toward the guest room, Chris shouted, “Don’t!”
Esther turned, confused.
“Darling, is something wrong?”
“Darling, did you come out because you needed to tell me something?”
Chris quickly changed the subject with a smile.
Esther, not thinking too much of it, sat down on the sofa.
“Darling, I’m planning to go out of town next week.”
“Eh?”
Hearing that Esther was going out, Chris was momentarily taken aback. Curiously, he asked, “Darling, what are you going out for?”
Esther explained, “There’s a big boss in Las Vegas who wants to partner with our Chester Group, so I’m going over to discuss the details of the collaboration with him.”
