Chapter 97

Book:Her Alpha's Rejected Mate Published:2024-11-25

Kiara’s POV.
Eric was the first person I saw when I returned to my apartment four days after Pandora had her baby. It was surprising how he had gotten access as I had full security measures put in place for the security of my home.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Eric?” I spat out as soon as I gathered myself together.
“Who is responsible for your pregnancy? I have been to your apartment more times than I care to remember, why are you never home?” He asked me, his voice having the guts to sound upset.
“Since when do I report my daily activities to you, Eric? That was also not an answer to my question. What the hell are you doing in my apartment before I call the security men on you”? I threatened.
“I just came to check on you. I missed you, Kiara. I am willing to overlook this bastard that you are carrying and take you back, probably even saving you the shame of being a single mom.” He said, and I laughed, unable to believe the audacity of Eric to come to my house and say such nonsense.
“You are very delusional. I didn’t need you then, and I bloody well do not need you now. My baby is not a bastard, there was a sperm donor, but I would hardly say he qualifies to be a father.” I sneered at him, livid that he had disrespected our unborn child.
“So who is the sperm donor? You didn’t tell me about being an easy lay?” He said, and I resisted the urge to slam his head against the wall of my living room until he passed out.
“You. The baby is ours, Eric. Although I do not want you to be a part of my baby’s life. You are making a lot of bad decisions now that I fear for his future.”
His eyes opened in shock.
“You did not tell me about it.” He sighed, seeing that my announcement had rendered him speechless.
“I found out the day you came to the hospital. You weren’t the best of people to talk to at that point considering everything that had happened at the time.” I explained and sat down.
The pressure on my waist was beginning to mount, and I knew the time for my delivery was near.
“If you are going to be having a boy for me, well, that is the next Alpha of my pack. The heir to my family’s business. I will not let you cut me off like that.” He protested weakly and I laughed.
“So how exactly are you going to take my baby without my consent?” I dared him to say he would, but I’m sure he thought better of it and chose to keep his mouth shut.
“We need to find a way to work things out. I want to be a part of this baby’s life.” He said, and his sudden interest seemed suspicious to me.
The Eric I knew before we broke up had turned into a terrible liar. He had also become very selfish, without caring about what I felt about his actions.
“There is nothing to work out. What’s the sudden interest in me? Why are you checking up on me so much?” I asked him, surprised by the disgust I felt for him.
He moved closer to me and I caught a whiff of alcohol in his scent. He had also started drinking, I shook my head, unable to recognize the man standing in front of me.
Eric used to be so full of life and quite ambitious, he had a plan that suited the two of us until he traveled for that business trip with his father and came back an entirely different person.
I could not trust him with my feelings anymore, talk more of that of my innocent child whom I would do anything for.
“I don’t think there is any need for you to be uptight about us. You used to be my mate, remember? Rolan and Pandora met at our party, don’t let them have the last laugh over us. I know that I might have done some things in the past but don’t let that come in between the beautiful memories that we share. You wouldn’t want to do this baby thing all alone when I am ready to assume my position.” He cajoled me, the stench of his breath sending my head reeling.
“You have been drinking, Eric? It’s all over your breath and it smells bad. I honestly can’t stand it.” I said and watched as he lowered his eyes, embarrassed.
“Look, that wasn’t to hurt your feelings. It’s just that I have become quite sensitive to smell, and it’s been really upsetting for my health.” I explained and opened my bag to bring out a spray I carried along with me everywhere.
“Don’t be like that. I didn’t take it to heart.” He responded and I heaved a sigh of relief.
“I need a little favor, Kiara.” He said and my chest fell. This was the Eric that I had left. Just a minute ago, he was ready to assume all the responsibilities in the world, and now he needed help.
It is no longer news that his family had run into debt and lost all they had. His father had also been arrested when it was shown that he had hands in a murder case that Rolan had refused to disclose.
His mother had developed a gambling problem and lost all of their inheritance too. It made more sense to me as I thought about it, drowning out everything he was saying.
“I promise that I will pay back. It’s just for a few months. Twenty thousand dollars to get me on my feet, so I can take care of you and your child.” He said, and I flinched at the way he said ‘your child’ like he wasn’t also the father of the baby.
“I’ll propose a deal. Fifty thousand dollars and you let me and the baby be alone for life. I’ll have the cheque signed right now if you promise to never look for us again.” I said and hoped that I was not right.
“Okay. I will take it.” He answered without hesitation, my heart breaking again for the second time.
