“I am sorry about being late, gentlemen.” Alpha Rolan apologized as soon as we got into the meeting room.
The men looked exhausted already as they had to wait for us for three hours. Rolan and I practically rushed down here after one of the men had sent him a text.
“It is fine Alpha. Welcome!” The men greeted me respectfully to my surprise. Rolan was a man who if he wanted one, a hundred would rise for him.
He is a good king, and we all knew that we were lucky to have him. His people loved and respected him.
“The Wolves have returned from the mission we sent them to Africa. It was successful.” Rolan started and the men cheered.
“That’s really nice, Alpha.” The men chorused.
“Griffin, kindly get me Caleb. I asked him to wait in the hallway.” Rolan said to me and I hurried to get Caleb.
“Good morning, Council of Wolves. Good morning Alpha!” Caleb hailed and sat down in the empty seat that was reserved for him.
“Welcome. You have done well.” Councilman Felix said.
“Thank you Councilman” Caleb replied and Rolan cleared his throat.
“For their celebration, the Wolves have chosen to do an anti-human trafficking raid. I know you are all surprised, but it is what they want. Over the past few months, we’ve been suspecting that a child trafficking rig has infiltrated the boundary fence and now has undue access to our pack and red moon pack. Griffin has been investigating that for about three months now, and we have come to a conclusion that there is a secret passage and an insider who feeds them information.” Rolan explained, and the men cleared their throats while some shifted in their seats.
“Griffin, give the men more details while Caleb will present the strategy we need to use.” Rolan addressed me and I cleared my throat. Standing up, I walked to the head of the table and turned on the projector.
“Good morning Councilman. Good morning Alpha. If you look at the image displayed here, you would see that there is an unmarked area close to the gate that is not under serious scrutiny because it is, of course, close to the gate.” I said and clicked the control to switch the image to a video I had gotten two days ago.
Rolan nodded his head and I continued to speak.
“The Luna was kidnapped five months ago,” I said and watched the shocked looks on the men’s faces.
“That is not true. Although we heard rumors following the arrest of your uncle Joe, it did not make sense as he was your father’s only sibling.” Councilman Carter said, his forehead scrunching confused.
“Well, Uncle Joe kidnapped the Luna, but she managed to escape and has been home ever since. That was what prompted us to do surveillance of the boundary fence.” I said, pausing to catch my breath.
“If you look closely, you will see an image capturing an unidentified man slipping through an invisible opening here. Now, we do not know where this leads to, but we tend to investigate. You all are councilmen from all the districts in the Wolves kingdom. We need you to be our eyes and ears. You will be getting every detail of all our proposed strategies starting from today.” I said and looked at Caleb who in turn scanned the faces of the men discreetly.
“Someone has been feeding outsiders information and we need to catch the person. You all will have to help us do that because, from our investigations so far, the person is just a pack member, so that rules all the councilmen out.” I said, and the men nodded their heads in agreement.
“If there is anything we need to do in particular, please let us know. We are fully dedicated to bringing the perpetrator of this act to book.” Councilman Carter hammered, and the rest of them nodded again in agreement.
“Well, thank you for your readiness to help. Caleb will educate you on the strategies you all are to use.” I said, and Caleb rose to address the men.
“Thank you, Griffin. The strategy you all will be using will be to inform members of your district about what we have told you here, but not exactly. Just add a little tweak to it. That is all we will be needing you all to do.” He said and walked back to his seat.
“Well, gentlemen, you have heard what the two best experts have suggested. I expect you all to adhere to this and help us sort this out. We have had a case of nearly sixty-seven children missing in the last few months. It has become a pandemic and it is crazy. Whatever we have discussed today, find a way to spread it but add a little tweak to it. That is all.” Rolan said, and the men bowed.
“We will do our best” they chorused.
“Well, I expect you to. Also, I want us to still celebrate the wolves. They have been doing a fantastic job over the years, it’s time to bestow upon them the honor that they rightly deserve. When we have sorted out the child trafficking issue, we will come back to plan something nice and elaborate for them. Griffin let me know whatever you come up with.” Rolan ordered.
“Alright Alpha.” I nodded gently.
“Another thing is, Griffin is my father’s son. He is my brother. My father had an affair while he was alive but married Griffin’s mother. It was a marriage of mutual understanding, love, and respect, just like what he had with my mother, the Luna you all knew. I know this isn’t the way I wanted to announce it to you all, but there really is no need for me to delay it any further.” Rolan said, and my mouth fell open.
He did not inform me that he would be telling them and even acknowledging me in front of the most important people first.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I excused myself quickly, feeling the shocked eyes of the men boring into my back as I left.
