Chapter 59: Pandora’s POV

I needed to get away from these crazy people fast. I was starting to feel very uncomfortable, and their attitude was creepy.
At first, I thought that everything was normal and that they were just one big loving family, but with all that I had seen and experienced from them, I knew something was terribly wrong.
It did not look like it was only the bipolar that they had as the problem. They had left me since morning and no one had come back to check on me.
It is not like I am even trying to be ungrateful, I just want somewhere I feel totally safe. I felt a sense of loss, and I was overwhelmed by the grief and hunger pangs I was feeling.
Just as I was about to start crying, a knock came in. I was shocked at first as I was not expecting any guests. It was already past visiting hours.
“It’s us” I heard a chorus of voices.
“Come in” I muttered, surprised to see Mrs. Edna, Ashley, and Wilson.
I felt terrified by their presence, and I began to feel very anxious. I jumped at the slightest movement they made.
“Is everything okay?” Mrs. Edna asked me. I was surprised that she was the one asking me that, considering how she had spoken to me earlier in the day.
“She was acting the same way when I came earlier. Acting like she had seen a ghost.” Wilson spoke for the first time that evening and I shot him a warning glance.
“Oh come on guys, let Preggo be. We left her all day, of course, she should be mad about that. We brought you lots of food and preggo, tomorrow, you will be leaving this godforsaken place to your new apartment in the pack. We really do hope that you love it.” Ashley said excitedly and brought out some packaged food.
The smell of the food wafted into my nose and my stomach rumbled loudly.
Wilson chuckled and like one clue, Mrs. Edna and Ashley joined him in laughter. I smiled too. It felt nice to be back to their usual happy self.
I looked at Mrs. Edna and gave her a thankful nod. I knew that she was the one who had somehow managed to convince her kids to let me stay somewhere else.
“You better stop laughing at me. I have been so hungry. I was even a few seconds away from bemoaning my fate when I heard the knock on the door.” I said as Ashley unwrapped one of the foils, I noticed that it was a chicken sandwich.
“Thank you so much. Oh! shit!” I muttered as I delved into the sandwich and wolfed it down hungrily.
“Take it easy, no one is going to take it away from you,” Wilson said, and they all smiled.
“I already said stop picking on her, Wilson. She had a long hungry day because you all decided to get busy with other things. Thank God I insisted we came by ourselves to check in on her. She might have invoked the spirit of the moon goddess before we came” Ashley teased too.
When Ashley moved close to where I lay to pass me the water, I caught a whiff of fresh blood on her. The smell shot through my head and I saw myself crawling out of what looked like a warehouse. I could hear the voices getting louder and louder.
“Preggo!” Wilson called out to me, and soon I opened my eyes to see all three of them looking at me closely.
“Are you alright?” Mrs. Edna asked.
“Did you remember anything?” Ashley added.
I took a deep breath before opening my mouth to speak.
“My name is Pandora, and I was rejected by my mate. All I remembered just now was that I was crawling out of a place that looked like a warehouse. I do not really understand this.” I moaned and clutched my head as the headache came again.
“Relax, do not force yourself to remember anything else.” Mrs. Edna said and began to adjust my pillow.
Wilson took the food from my hands and Ashley offered me water. I was conflicted and felt guilty that I had thought that something was wrong with them when they all looked out for me.
“Thank you,” I murmured.
“Do you think we should go? Give her time to get herself together and rest.” Ashley proposed and Mrs. Edna shook her head.
“You two can go ahead, I will stay and accompany her for the night, just in case she remembers anything else.” Mrs. Edna said and checked my pulse.
“Pandora, that is a beautiful name. You think your mate was responsible for your pregnancy?” Wilson asked.
“Yes. I feel strongly about this. I feel like I shared genuine feelings with the father of my babies.” I said and thought about the possibility of my mate rejecting me because I cheated and got pregnant by another man.
It seemed most unlikely because my heart disagreed with the thought immediately. I did not seem like that kind of person.
“What if your mate rejected you because you told him you were pregnant, and he did not want to take responsibility for it? What if he was the one you were running away from at the warehouse you remember crawling out from?” Ashely suggested.
Her suggestion seemed to make sense because if I were genuinely happy, I would never have wanted to be away from my mate.
My chest hurt and I adjusted on the bed.
“Mom, I will join you too. I want to stay with Pandora for the night.” Ashley said before I could respond to everything that she had said.
“You will need the presence of a man for protection. I want to be here too. I do not think I will get much sleep at home anyway if my mind keeps wandering back to everyone’s safety at the hospital.” Wilson submitted and let out a deep breath.
“Thank you all so much. I do not know how I would have survived.” I said and burst into tears.
