Chapter Thirty-Four: Kiara’s POV

I knew that whatever I was feeling needed to be checked at the hospital.
Pandora had even offered to drive me since Rolan has traveled for business. I knew she was bored, but I didn’t want her to drive all the way from hers to mine.
It’s been a month since I moved out and even started working at the newspaper publications. I squeezed the day’s paper into my bag for Pandora, she loves reading the newspaper.
I picked up my car key and headed out early, submitting that I needed to go to the hospital for a medical appointment.
I walked briskly to my car and suddenly felt like someone was looking at me. I turned around to check, but didn’t see anyone, so I just shrugged off the feeling and drove to the hospital.
After a couple of tests, I was directed to an office to see the doctor for the interpretation of my test results and possible solutions if anything was wrong with me.
“Hello Ma’am” the doctor greeted me.
“Hello doctor” I replied and sat down.
“Okay, so I have gone through your test results, there’s nothing wrong with you,” the doctor said, and before he could say something else, I cut in out of frustration.
“Doctor, I feel some type of way,” I complained bitterly, not willing to spend another night feeling the way I felt last night.
“Well, it’s not like something is not happening to you, it is just that nothing is wrong with you” the doctor reiterated.
“So what is happening to me, Doctor? I am really worried. If there is anything, just let me know w…”
“You are pregnant ma’am!” He said excitedly, but the happiness quickly died when he saw that I was laughing but not out of Joy.
“That must be a joke. I haven’t been with a man in at least three months. I haven’t even seen one too, so maybe we should do the test again because I do not understand where the pregnancy came from” I laughed and wiped the tears that had gathered in my eyes from laughing too much.
“Well, there is such a thing as cryptic pregnancy.” The doctor said, and I realized that he was really serious about me being pregnant.
My mind began to make a million calculations because the only reason I should be pregnant is if I have been raped during this time.
“But, I have been having my monthly menstrual cycle for the past four months. I have never missed it.” I complained.
“It says here that you are about three months and two weeks pregnant. Maybe the specificity of the time will help juggle your memory.” He informed me calmly and went back to looking at my results.
“Eric!” I moaned bitterly, if the pregnancy was three months, it could only mean that I was pregnant for Eric. The tears began to flow from my eyes.
Why me? Why is it that every time something good comes or is coming my way, it’s like Eric somehow becomes involved in it and I don’t get it at the end of the day.
I was very tempted to call Pandora, but I knew she would be in bed. The doctor had advised her strictly on bed rest.
By the time I finished discussing with the doctor, I was fully convinced that he was really serious about me having a cryptic pregnancy.
I didn’t know what to do, so I made up my mind to go straight to Pandora from here. I didn’t know if I should talk to Eric, but I didn’t want him anymore around me. Even though he was still my mate, I had detached emotionally from him.
Some minutes later, I bade the doctor goodbye after registering for the antenatal and I began to look at the brighter side of meeting my baby. I threw the drugs and everything else in the boot of my car before getting in and placing my head on my steering wheel.
“Hello, Kiara. Long time no see!”
I jumped and screamed when I saw Eric entering my car from the passenger seat.
“Eric! What are you doing here?” I asked, furiously. I looked around for the little remote that Rolan had given me to hold and press whenever Eric came to me, but I had thrown it in my car boot alongside everything else, even my phone.
I tried to calm my nerves, considering that I wasn’t ready to tell him about the pregnancy yet. I needed to speak to Pandora first.
“You are not happy to see your mate? You jilted me!” He said and moved close to me, trying to peck me.
I scoffed and averted my face to avoid his kiss.
“Eric, what do you want? And how did you even find me?” I asked, puzzled because I knew that my parents could never have told him.
“I’ve got eyes everywhere, baby.” He said nonchalantly, and I wondered what had changed Eric to become the person that he had turned to. I immediately concluded that I didn’t want him in the life of my unborn child, so I needed to make sure that he didn’t have the need to look for me after today.
“Well, I hope you have enough eyes to see that you and I are over?” I fired at him angrily, upset that he was acting like a child.
“We are mates Kiara. Stop all this and let’s go home. This is where your drama has to stop. I have told you that I am sorry, it was just a moment of weakness. It is you that I love.” He said unseriously and I knew he wasn’t remorseful about what he had done to the beautiful love that we have shared all these years. There was only one remedy.
“Eric Warner, I, Kiara Whitfield, reject you as my mate. Get out of my car!” I ordered and watched the shocked look on his face.
“Kiar…”
“I said get out Eric! I do not want to ever set my eyes on you again. You can go and do whatever you like.” I finished and stared at him sternly until he stepped out of my car looking defeated and lost.
