It has been one month since Derrick and I officially got married, and it has been hell ever since. Derrick rebelled in every way, it was almost like he wasn’t even charmed by me.
“Hello Derrick” I greeted him coldly as we had not been speaking for about four days now.
He looked at me and nodded gently.
“May I sit with you?” I asked, trying not to offend him.
He didn’t say anything again, just motioned for me to sit down without even looking up at me.
I coughed gently to get his attention. He looked at me and scanned my face like there was something on it.
“What do you want, Hermione?” He asked me, his voice filled with repressed anger.
“I would like to visit my parents.” I choked out, his countenance scaring whatever words I wanted to say back into my mouth.
“Okay. You can go.” He replied quietly and focused on his laptop.
“I haven’t seen my period” I blurted out. Even though he had touched me just once since we got married, I blurted that out of desperation.
I could feel him slipping out of my fingers, and everything I did to bring him closer to me only drew a wedge between us.
His eyes darkened, and he asked me the last question I ever expected him to.
“So who is the father?” He asked me, crossing his legs.
“I am married to you, Derrick. What do you mean by “who is the father?” I fired back, totally upset.
“Hermione, you thought you had me fooled. I found out about your little shenanigans.” He said and laughed hysterically.
“You thought you had me wrapped around your little fingers? I wanted to show you that you could still get what you want and be very unhappy with it.”
“I’ll get the pack doctor to do a test for you now, if you are pregnant, I’ll take full responsibility until the child is born and a DNA test can be conducted. If not…, well, you better pray it is mine.” He snarled at me.
I sat transfixed in my seat. I didn’t know how to defend myself, as I’ve obviously only succeeded in fooling myself all this while.
“So you married me just to prove a point?” I asked, hoping that there was another reason.
“No, I was always going to marry you, Hermione. I promised to and even rejected my mate for you. All you had to do was give me some time to heal and settle things with my wolf, but instead, you rushed to dabble into things you shouldn’t.” He replied to me, his voice surprisingly calm and gentle.
“You were acting like an asshole. I was only scared of losing you. Especially since after the fight we had the night you went to Pandora’s house. I was just scared.” I replied, my voice pleading, as I didn’t want to lose him.
“Okay fine. Let’s say you did all that, including poking my head and drawing blood from it. Did you know about the implications of soul-tying us?” He asked, and I was surprised because I didn’t try to soul-tie him.
“Soul-tying?” I asked, a confused expression on my face.
“Yes. You were merging our wolves into one and giving yourself the upper hand. It makes me think that you are power hungry, and you would do just about anything to get it.” He explained.
“I would have died, Hermione. You would have killed me because I wanted to grieve my rejection. I chose to bear that pain for you, but what did I get back from you in return? Trying to turn me into a fool for you?” He questioned, I was dumbfounded and at a loss for words.
Derrick saw through my actions a long time ago and decided to stay quiet, playing the fool. I was embarrassed and the shame that washed over me didn’t let me stand up.
He picked up his phone and called the secretary in.
“Call me the pack doctor. I need him to come here now with a pregnancy test kit. Tell him it’s time-critical.” He ordered her. She nodded her head and left the office.
I sat down there sweating profusely even though the air conditioning was on full blast.
“Derrick…” I stammered.
“Derrick, please. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I was just scared. I’m not pregnant. I promise I’m not pregnant. You have only touched me once and my period isn’t coming until two days from now. I am sorry I lied to you.” I begged, scared for whatever was going to happen to me when Derrick found out that I wasn’t pregnant.
“It’s fine Hermione. If you are indeed pregnant, I agree it’s mine. I was just upset earlier.” He said and smiled mischievously.
A knock came on the door.
“Come in,” Derrick called out.
The door opened and the Pack doctor came inside, a small back clutched to his sides.
“Good day, Alpha. Good day, Luna. You sent for me,” he greeted.
“Please sit.” Derrick urged.
“Thank you” the doctor replied and sat down beside me.
“I called you here to run a test on the Luna. We suspect she’s pregnant and I didn’t want her to stress herself to the hospital.” He lied,
I winced at the thought that what he just said was a lie and that he was just putting up a front, so our relationship wouldn’t face public scrutiny.
“Oh, that’s good news. I’ll need Luna to pee in this cup. Then I’ll do what I have to do, it shouldn’t take more than five minutes” the doctor said and handed a small cup to me.
“You’ll pee in that” he informed me.
I nodded my head, too scared to talk.
“I’ll go with you,” Derrick said and stood up to escort me to the bathroom.
I was going to protest, but he shot me a look that made me keep quiet.
A few minutes later, we emerged from the bathroom, the slightly yellow liquid in the container.
The wait for the test result was the longest three minutes of my life, and finally, the doctor picked up the strip he used and examined it.
“Well, congratulations Alpha and Luna, you are pregnant,” he said.
I didn’t know what happened, but all I saw was black.
