Chapter Twelve: Derrick’s POV

Book:Her Alpha's Rejected Mate Published:2024-11-25

I fumed at the thought of another man getting to be with Pandora. I have regretted my decision to reject her. I thought that my disgust for her kind was enough to soothe the wrenching feeling that was threatening to cripple me.
My wolf has been irritated with me. He has refused to link with me or even let me feel his presence. He is weak and mourning the loss of his mate. I know that he blames me for it and I can’t admit it, that he has every right to.
My younger sister, Mira, badged into my room.
“Where have you been?” She asked me.
“Nowhere,” I answered her coldly.
“I thought you said you were over her. You said you did not want her kind, and I believed you. Why did you lose your cool at Kiara’s party last night?” She asked me again, her eyes blazing with anger.
“Are you really going to be angry with me like I did something wrong?” I asked her, genuinely puzzled that she thinks that she has something to be angry about.
“You really don’t know why I am upset?” She asked me, looking more puzzled than I was.
I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head at her.
“I really do not know Mira. If there is a reason why you are this upset, maybe you should say it already and quit all this unnecessary drama.” I said, slightly irritated.
“All my friends were there. I had even boasted to them about how cool and amazing you were, and the first thing you did was to go and harass Pandora, the same Pandora that you had rejected publicly just hours before. Make it make sense, big brother?” She asked me.
I cowered in shame angrily, the stench of my shameful display finally hit me. I had made a fool of myself in public by fighting for the same woman I had rejected.
“Mira, look, I lost my cool. My wolf was really upset, and he got the best of me. Maybe it was too soon for me to have seen her again, especially since the Epsilon declared us mates. I did not mean to embarrass you, and you know that. Big brother apologizes.” I said to her and ruffled her hair gently.
She swatted my hands off and stomped off to my fridge. She yanked it open and brought out a can of beer.
“Young woman, you will not drink my beer. You’ll drink wine like other classy women.” I teased her. Mira has always had a weakness for beer, she even stole our father’s beer too from the fridge when we were just kids.
She eyed me maliciously and pooped the can open, emptying its contents into a rinsed glass cup on the table.
“It’s my brother’s house. I’ll do whatever I want. Moreover, a can of beer barely makes up for all you put me through last night. My friends didn’t stop teasing me.” She complained.
“I just said I’m sorry. Don’t you forgive you, little brat?” I teased her and swatted her legs off my desk.
“Don’t put your little feet on my work desk, young woman. I am still the Alpha.” I warned her.
She gave me the puppy eyes and started laughing. Her bubbly laughter soon got to me, and soon I joined her in laughing my head off.
“You really looked stupid. I wonder how shocked Pandora must have been.” She said to me in between chokes of laughter.
“Stop it, Mira. I would rather not remember how shameful I acted.” I said pretending to be hurt by her statement.
“You owe me, though. I want a new car, and you’ll be my chauffeur for the yearly pack ball when the time comes. Furthermore, you’ll get me flowers and then a gigantic billboard that has my face on it, and you will write how much you love me and how much of a sweet girl I am.” She said, and looked at me in the eyes, daring me to refuse to meet her demands.
“Okay. I agree.” I said, throwing my hands in defeat. It was really hard saying no to this girl.
“How’s things between you and Hermione?” She asked me.
“I don’t know. You know I don’t care either. I haven’t spoken to her since the mating time in the afternoon, yesterday.” I answered her nonchalantly, I hated any conversation that had to do with Hermione now.
She sort of disgusted me and the only person I wanted to be with was Pandora, but even that, I have also hurt her and thrown her under the bus.
“You should call her. She’s still your girlfriend.” Mira advised me.
I scoffed and stood up with my hands in my pocket. I couldn’t get the image of Pandora and Rolan laughing at the party. She had also looked so pretty.
“I wonder how long they have been together, no way she recovered that fast from being rejected by me, her only mate.” I thought to myself.
“I have to go, brother. My friends and I are having a little picnic this afternoon.” Mira informed me and picked up her bag to leave, I saw her taking my platinum card, and she waved it at me.
“Might as well start on getting all the things I need to help make myself feel better after my big brother broke my heart and disgraced me in front of everyone, ” Mira teased me and feigned a faint.
“Take it, Mira. There’s no need for all these dramas.” I said and laughed.
She got up laughing and pecked me goodbye before downing her glass of beer and slamming my door shut.
Left alone with my thoughts, I began to wonder what the future would have been with Pandora as my Luna. My wolf whined painfully whenever I thought about her and even mentioned her name in my mind.
I knew he wasn’t going to forgive me so soon for treating his mate like that, but I hope he comes to understand my dilemma soon.
