The Oconnor Group was vast and couldn’t be brought down by engineering issues alone. What troubled Nelson was the enormous funds that the Scott Group and the Ellison family had jointly injected into the capital market. This was essentially their entire fortune, and they were determined to fight him to the end.
Callie understood why Nelson hadn’t contacted her; he would be distracted.
Before leaving, Charlotte added, “If the Oconnor Group loses this battle… Mrs. Oconnor, you should think about it.”
Callie’s heart sank. She couldn’t bear to imagine what would happen if Nelson were defeated.
He was born proud and unyielding, never meant to fall from grace.
Charlotte left, and Callie was in turmoil.
Did Nelson know that it was the Ellison family who made the move?
Callie sat there, searching for a long time about the current situation of the Oconnor Group.
The Oconnor Group was besieged on all sides. Nelson had to face blatant pressure from all directions alone. This might be the greatest crisis the Oconnor Group had ever encountered!
Nelson had been stationed in Afupshire for more than two days, with his itinerary not disclosed to the public. Photos taken by reporters showed him looking haggard.
Callie stared at that photo, her heart tightening painfully.
She knew nothing about what Nelson was involved in, but she knew it was a fantastical world where Nelson was an undisputed king.
But now… this king might have to abdicate.
Various documents about the Oconnor Group’s predicament were scattered around Callie. She spent the whole night reading them and managed to understand part of it.
She rubbed her temples gently. Nelson, you really know how to make me worry…
At dawn, Callie knocked on Mollie’s door. “I can’t wait any longer. I need to go to where they are. I want to see him.”
Mollie was surprised but rational. “It won’t help if you go.”
“I need to tell him in person that this has to do with the Ellison family. They might not even know who their enemy is right now. I have to go.” Callie was determined. “Bridger’s unruly. He brought you here. It means you’re important. So you must know where they are, right?”
Mollie was impressed by Callie’s clarity. She took a deep breath, went inside to grab her bag, and said, “I’ll go with you.”
During Afupshire’s morning rush hour, the streets were crowded. The driver was enthusiastic, speaking, “The financial conference center has been chaotic lately. I’ve lost several stocks. Are you staff? Can you give me some tips?”
As the scenery passed by outside, Callie and Mollie exchanged a glance. “Tourists. We’re just visiting nearby.”
The driver responded with an “oh” and didn’t ask further.
Callie stared out at the traffic in a daze. She knew nothing and might only cause more trouble by going there. But she just wanted to see him, see his current state, to feel at ease.
As they descended from the overpass, the driver’s phone suddenly rang. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and smiled at the passengers behind him. “Sorry, it’s my wife calling.”
“It’s okay, take it,” Callie said, seeing how happy he was. He must love his wife deeply.
The driver answered the call while steering with one hand.
It was right at the descent from the overpass, surrounded by traffic and incessant honking. Before Callie could react, she heard a scream beside her-
A car ahead came straight at them. The driver was caught off guard and dropped his phone, but it was too late-
“Bang!”
