Upon reaching the restroom entrance, Chris saw a dozen people surrounding Bald Rivers, who was pale with fright. Bald Rivers spotted Chris and immediately yelled, “Chris, come save me!”
Frowning, Chris approached and asked, “What happened?”
“Who are you?”
A burly man adorned with dragon tattoos stepped forward, giving Chris and his group a menacing look. Alongside the burly man stood several thugs, clearly not the kind to mess with.
Bald Rivers’ friends, witnessing the scene, quickly hid themselves. They were ordinary citizens, hardly brave enough to confront gangsters.
“He’s my cousin,” Chris said calmly.
“What exactly is going on here?”
“Your cousin?”
the burly man sneered.
“He’s quite arrogant! He dared to harass my woman right here at the restroom entrance. How should we handle this?”
Chris looked exasperated. It was just like Bald Rivers to end up in trouble for harassing a woman at such a place. He initially didn’t want to get involved.
But since Bald Rivers was Esther’s cousin, Chris felt compelled to intervene. He glanced at Bald Rivers and asked, “Cousin Bald, did this really happen?”
With a mournful face, Bald Rivers replied, “Chris, I didn’t know that woman was taken! She was dressed so provocatively, I just asked her, ‘Miss, how much?’ And then…”
Bald Rivers trailed off, unable to continue. Chris turned and indeed saw a woman with fiery red hair, dressed flamboyantly, standing beside the burly man.
Suddenly, the burly man slapped Bald Rivers across the face, shouting, “You bastard! You dare to flirt with my woman? Are you seeking death? Aren’t you some big boss? If you don’t pay up millions today, I’ll break your legs!”
“Pay millions?”
Bald Rivers was completely dumbfounded. Was a mere flirtation really worth millions? Considering his assets were just over a hundred million, such a payment would be crippling.
“Not going to pay? If you don’t, I’ll cripple you right now!”
the burly man threatened fiercely.
“I, I, I…”
Bald Rivers was at a loss for words.
His friends had already fled. Bald Rivers sighed, realizing he couldn’t rely on them; Chris was his only hope now.
“Chris, please save me! You have to save me! After all, I’m Esther’s cousin, you can’t just watch me die!”
he pleaded.
Though Bald Rivers knew Chris was merely an insignificant son-in-law in the Lin family, he had no other options. Chris was his last lifeline.
Seeing this, Chris sighed helplessly.
Although Chris despised Bald Rivers-a man who loved to show off without any self-awareness-he could not let anything happen to him on his own turf, out of respect for Esther. Glancing at the burly man, Chris said, “Just let him go! I won’t pursue this matter further!”
At these words, the burly man exploded.
“Who do you think you are? You think you can just tell me to let him go? I’m Crow, do you even know who I am? Do you realize the reputation I hold around here? I’ll have you know, I’m with East Coast Securities. East Coast Securities-ever heard of them? They rule the entire East Coast underworld. Push me, and I could take you out in a minute!”
Crow had been a local thug leader before somehow joining East Coast Securities. He was, however, just a low-level enforcer within the organization, often using East Coast Securities’ name to intimidate others.
Hearing this, Bald Rivers was terrified, having heard of East Coast Securities’ fearsome reputation before coming to the East Coast.
“It’s over! I’m done for!”
he thought, his face ashen. He regretted trying to show off, not anticipating it would bring him such trouble. Back home in Amerosia, the economic hub, he was just a small-time billionaire among many.
He had thought he could impress in a smaller place like the East Coast, but now regretted it. However, it was too late for regrets. Bald Rivers hoped Chris could help him out of this predicament. But could Chris, merely a son-in-law of little significance, truly be of any help? Bald Rivers was doubtful.
“East Coast Securities?”
Chris frowned upon hearing the name. Crow, looking smug, taunted, “Scared now, are you? If you’re scared, just scram. Don’t meddle, or I won’t let you off easy!”
Seeing Crow’s arrogance, a cold light flashed in Chris’s eyes. East Coast Securities was, after all, one of his own controlled forces. He would never allow anyone to misuse its name for wrongdoing.
“Are you with East Coast Securities? Excellent!”
Chris said.
“I’ll just make a call to Bull. I’m quite curious to see how he manages his people.”
After saying this, Chris took out his phone and dialed Bull. Crow, with a look of disdain, scoffed, “Acting all important in front of me? Bull, the boss, is someone you know?”
Bull was the head of East Coast Securities, not someone just anyone could claim to know. Even Crow had only met Bull once by chance.
What was Chris in comparison? A joke?
Ignoring Crow, Chris’s call was quickly connected.
“Mr. Shelby!”
