(NFTMB)Chapter 73
Victoria
(Morning Sickness)
I give up.
I completely give up.
I haven’t felt like myself in a long time since I got pregnant but this morning takes the cake for the worst morning ever.
It felt like hell. I felt like shit.
I was forcefully awakened by a murderous bout of nausea that sent me jumping right out of bed and running to the toilet in record time so I could empty the contents of my stomach into the toilet bowl.
Very fast legs you’ve got there Victoria.
Thankfully, Alessandro sprung into action immediately and held my hair back.
I’m very grateful for these little things that he does.
It’s thoughtful and important.
I threw up so bad that I felt like I was going to end up spilling my guts into the toilet bowl and throwing up my heart out of my mouth as well.
Yes, it’s that serious that’s why it needs to be that graphic.
I felt like I must have done something to upset my child and that was why I was being punished like this.
Punishment, yes. Because that’s exactly what it felt like.
“Do you want to visit the hospital? I can skip work today”. Alessandro offered.
I sat on the bathroom floor waiting for the next round of nausea.
“Hospital? For morning sickness? No, don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine at home. You go ahead.”
“Stop being stubborn, Victoria. This looks like it could kill you”
I forgot my nausea and laughed at his silly comment.
“Really? Morning sickness can kill me? Really, Alessandro? Are you sure you’re Matteo’s father?”
I laughed at my joke but Alessandro wasn’t laughing.
I pursed my lips before realizing what my words insinuated.
“That is not a very nice joke, Victoria”
He looked serious. When doesn’t he ever look serious
I realized I was way out of line. I shouldn’t have said that.
“I’m sorry. It’s the baby. It’s messing with me and my sense of humor”. I lied
He wouldn’t know besides it’s a perfect cover.
“Yeah, right. I know that’s a lie”. He said with an eye roll.
I got caught but before I could say anything else I felt the nausea rearing up its ugly head and I all but flew to the toilet bowl emptying whatever was left in my stomach.
“Get up from the floor and clean yourself up”. Alessandro commanded.
After throwing up till I felt like no more was coming, I stood up from the bathroom floor and slowly made my way to the bathroom sink before brushing my teeth and washing my face.
God, I look like I’ve been run over by a train and then left to die by hanging.
Again, it’s the baby. Not me.
“Come on, let’s get you back to bed”. He said taking me by the arm and leading me to the bed before laying me down and pulling the covers over me with a serious look on his face.
“Thank you”. I said after he pulled the covers to my chin.
He nodded firmly before brushing my hair away from my forehead.
“What would you like to eat? I’ll have Amara prepare it for you”
The strange thing was that I didn’t even have an appetite for anything now.
“I’m not actually hungry, Alessandro. I just feel very weak and tired. I might just sleep in for the rest of the day”
“I’ll have Amara bring you soup now, Victoria.”
“Okay.”
I snuggled into the covers to make the most of the warmth it brought as Alessandro left for the kitchen. I think I’m getting the chills as well.
He has been much more gentler now in his own way since the day I gave him the microphones in his office.
Before that day actually he’s been nicer and much more lenient with me.
He doesn’t yell at me that much anymore again. He does but not as much as before.
And I also try not to get on his nerves so much.
The sound of his footsteps alerted me of his reentrance.
“I’ve let her know that you are currently ill and she’ll be here any minute from now with the soup”.
“Thank you”.
He sat beside me on the bed going through his phone before I slightly adjusted my position to place my head on his leg that was close to my position.
As soon as he sensed what I was about to do he looked at me suspiciously and never took his eyes off of me.
I placed my head on his thigh and grabbed his free hand before placing it on my forehead.
His body was warmer than mine and it felt better than my previous position.
He was still looking at me strangely like I had grown two heads.
“You’re cold”
“Yes. You’re much warmer.” I snuggled into his body and enjoyed the warmth that radiated from him.
He gave me one last look before going back to whatever it is he was doing on his phone.
There was silence.
A comfortable silence actually before Amara knocked and Alessandro permitted her to enter.
“Here’s your soup, ma’am.”
“Thank you.” I whispered
“Is there anything else you need?”. She asked, holding the tray to her front.
Alessandro didn’t pay her any attention as his whole being was on whatever he was doing on his phone.
You wouldn’t know that they have a relationship with how Alessandro treated her like air.
“No for now. I’ll let you know if I need something else. Thank you.”
She nodded before leaving the room.
He still didn’t look up and still didn’t acknowledge her.
What a strange man.
I got up from his thigh to have my soup before it gets cold.
Picking up the spoon with shaky fingers I wrinkled my nose at the aroma.
It wasn’t horrible but then my baby wasn’t exactly fond of it.
I gulped down the first spoon with a little difficulty due to the fact that my taste buds weren’t exactly great friends of soup for now.
“Is anything the matter?”. He said laying his phone on his lap to give me his attention.
“Nothing. It’s just that the aroma makes my stomach churn. My baby must be having a rough day today. I can totally tell.” I tried to straighten my spine that was actually hurting and stiff.
“Does it hurt?”
“My back? Yes”
“Let me do it”
The spoon froze mid air as I waited to know if I heard correctly.
“Youyou want the spoon?”. I asked unsure.
“Since your back hurts, why not lay back and let me feed you.”
He almost seemed pissed off so I immediately gave him the spoon and the bowl now when he was still being nice.
“Lay back”
I did as I was told and leaned in so close to get the pillow behind me that I could see his chest from his shirt.
His giant DIAVOLO tattoo was visible and I chewed on my bottom lip as I wondered what it meant and why he had it so boldly written on his chest.
He raised my upper body a bit to add more pillows as support to prop my body up.
“Thank you, it’s more comfortable now.”
He hummed and didn’t give an audible response as I watched him scoop the soup with a very serious look on his face.
He looked like someone who was tackling a very serious issue but it was only Alessandro scooping soup.
I had attributed fine suits and dress shirts with Alessandro but seeing him in plain tees and sweatpants would still manage to steal my words from my mouth.
He looked dashing. A bad boy next door neighbour kind of hotness.
He looked younger and normal without the suits and cuffs. Those things made him looker, serious and more dangerous.
“Open your mouth.” He said in a very serious voice.
I did as instructed as he emptied the contents of the spoon into my mouth and I gulped down.
This must be his first time taking care of someone or feeding someone.
“Alessandro? Son?”. Elena’s voice came from outside the door.
“Mother? Come in”. He held up a filled spoon before me. “Open”. I gulped down the contents of the spoon as I simultaneously drank in his features.
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down each time he gulped or spoke. His forehead had a slight crease from being pinched together and his lips had a light frown on them.
His full pink lips which looked quite tempting right now, I’m sure were much more tasty than this bland soup.
His eyes caught me daydreaming as I shrunk back in humiliation while he smirked before going back to his task. “Open.”
Damn bloody hormones. What am I thinking?
“Alessandro, aren’t you going to work today, dear?”. Elena asked as she walked into the room with Matteo on her hip.
“I might skip work today. The baby’s probably being fussy inside Victoria so she’s not feeling too good”
“Oh I’m so sorry, dear. These babies will really turn your system upside down before they’re born. Be strong dear, it’ll be over soon”. Elena squeezed my hand.
“What are you going to do about the meeting with the board members?”
“I’ll just have to skip attending. I can’t leave her like this”
“I can manage on my own, Alessandro. You can go”. I said.
“Not a word from you, Victoria”
“Maybe I can stand in for you, Sandro? What do you think?”. Elena offered.
“You’re not serious, are you?”. Alessandro asked with a small grin on his face.
“Why not? You think I’m too old or too naive to handle some greedy old men?”. Elena challenged.
I might have laughed as well.
Alessandro cocked his head to the side, thoroughly assessing his mother.
“Are you sure you can handle this?”
“Of course, Alessandro. It’s not like I’m going to war or anything. Besides, I am Nicholas Rossi’s wife and Alessandro Rossi’s mother so they should actually be the ones afraid of me”. She said,
“Alright, if you insist, mother. Dave will be there to guide you. I’ll let him know you’ll be taking my place today and he’ll assist you when you need help”
“Great. I just need someone to take over and hold my grandson for me while I get ready for the meeting”.
“Hand him to Valentino or Niccolo, any”
“I’ll hold him”. I offered.
“You’re sick, Victoria”
“I’m not sick to my fingers, Alessandro. If it gets too much I promise to give him to Valentino”.
“Fine!”
“Here you go”. Elena says passing him to me before leaving.
“Hey, baby.” I cooed tickling his sides.
His heart melting laughter made me happy as I remembered that Matteo was really one of the people that brought me to this point in my life.
This little man right here changed my life.
