Helping a friend

Zion’s birthday, which felt as if it was so far away, was now a few days away. And so even as they prepared for the full moon, they also prepared for the big 7, as Zion loved to call it. Zera anticipated the day, and who better to help her plan than Diya? She was, after all, Zion’s godmother.
It had been a while since Diya and Zera had done this: go out together and talk about random things while shopping together. Diya, who had taken a step back after birthing the twins, wanted to return to work after a year and a month. She had reapplied to the CEO desk about the position she once filled, but her manager told her the position had been given to another. She told her the only way to get it back was to sign an agreement with the company promising to not have another child for at least another five years. Failure to comply with this agreement would result in a lawsuit from her company. This wasn’t a difficult deal, as Diya didn’t plan on having any more children after the twins, but she was enraged by their audacity. They wanted to control her, and she wasn’t happy about it. Yes, she wanted to have only two kids, but accidents are inevitable, and getting sued was a slap in the face.
“What did Greg say about it?” Zera asked.
“He called the agreement horseshit,” she said. “He believes I deserved better.”
“I have to agree with him.” Zera said as they stepped into the clothing section.
“I do too, but a year and a month is longer than I thought I would spend at home after having the twins, yet here we are. I feel that the longer I stay home, the lesser the urge to work will be for me. Greg isn’t complaining about it, but I wasn’t built to be a stay-at-home mother,” she answered, and Zera understood.
They spent an hour at the store getting Zion the perfect outfit for his birthday.
They approached the parking lot of the store, and Zera began to speak. “Have you tried finding jobs at other institutions, companies, and industries? Last I heard, accounting was a sought-after profession.” She opened the back seat of the car and set the shopping bags down, hands down.
“I gave a few placements and was optimistic, and that is really all I can do,” she answered.
Zera didn’t say much after her reply; she put on the music and drove Diya to her home before continuing her journey. She would have driven home directly. That was the plan before heading out to buy the clothes for Zion, but after the talk she had with Diya, she needed to go somewhere else.
She arrived at Hart’s company, and after parking in the parking lot, she went into the building. She didn’t have any reason to feel insecure about her choice of clothing. She was dressed very decently, even though her first goal was to shop for Zion and return home. The elevator door opened on the fifth floor, and she stepped out and approached the new secretary, Nancy. I didn’t have to introduce myself; almost everyone knew who I was, and just as expected, she did too. She nodded her head. He’s in a meeting, but they should finish any moment from now.”
“Zera?” She came from behind, and she knew who it was.
She turned around to find Aaron before her. As much as his eyes held a lot of questioning, they also had a delightful look on his face. “Aaron,” she smiled.
He stepped forward and kissed her lips passionately before pulling away and placing his head against hers. “I was just thinking about you.” He mumbled before pulling back. Come, we will have a lot of privacy in my office.”
He shut the door as soon as they stepped into his office, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her lips, snaking his tongue into her mouth as he deepened the kiss. This made Zera giggle because his office had see-through glass walls. So those outside could see most of the things that took place in the office unless the blinds were down. The blinds were up, and those outside could see them, which meant there wasn’t any privacy inside her either.
He raised his brow and asked, “What is funny?”
“There isn’t privacy in your office, Aaron. I can tell you Nancy can still see us at her station,” she said.
He glanced behind her and then back at her and said, “She’s not looking.”
She rolled her eyes and said, “Yeah, right.”
He released her from his arms and stepped back. “Why are you here?”
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“I know you’re not here because you missed me and couldn’t stop thinking about me. So why are you here?”
She locked her hands behind her and took a step towards him. “You’re right, but who said we could not do both?”
“You can’t.” He answered with certainty, “You weren’t wired that way, and that’s okay. So why are you here?”
Well, I was out with Diya for Zion’s birthday shopping, and she spoke about returning to work, but the terms and conditions listed by her company for her return were outrageous, so she had to turn it down. She has also been submitting her resumes to companies for jobs, but there hasn’t been any luck yet. Diya, just like me, wasn’t built to stay at home and raise children, and I wanted to ask if your company would be willing to employ her. The Harts company has many human staff working here, and so I know she’ll fit right in. She has been here for me when I needed help, and so I think it’s only fair that I be here for her as well. She studied accounting in college and is amazing at data analytics.”
He sighed, folded his arms over his chest, and remained silent, as if thinking about everything she just told him. “We are not employing at the moment; this is the first time you’re asking such a favour from me, and I cannot turn you down. I will see what I can do. Also, discuss it with her and see if she would be willing to work with us.”
She nodded, smiling widely, and said, “I will do that once I get home. Thank you.”
He shrugged and said, “You are helping out a good friend. It is always a pleasure to see where and how I can help. If doing this keeps you from thinking, Next time I kiss you, then it’s all good.”
“And I can make it even better.” She closed the space between them and took his lips into hers for a passionate kiss, not caring who saw or who was watching.
