Aaron’s eyes opened to find that he was in bed in his old room, and looking beside him, he found Zera sleeping soundly, on his arm and in a cute curve. He couldn’t help the smile that came onto his face, and it didn’t leave.
It wasn’t a dream. What happened between them wasn’t a dream. No, it was as real as the very air in his lungs. They had found a mutual understanding of the situation, and Zera had forgiven him for his mistake. She forgave him and also brought him back into the room. He didn’t want to think much about it, but he would never do anything that would make him leave again. They belong together like this, tangled up in sheets and in each other’s arms. Nothing came close to it.
This was fate giving him another chance, and he wasn’t going to jeopardise this chance.
He leaned in and placed a tender kiss on her forehead, and she squirmed and turned to him, and her lashes fluttered. He held his breath as her weakening blue eyes rested on his.
“Good morning.” He smiled at her even as she stared at him, as if trying to figure out why he was staring at her this way.
She would never understand the hell she saved him from by forgiving him and taking him back, and he would not do her justice by explaining to her either.
“Good morning, Aaron. I see you’re already awake, as usual.”
He smiled, “I woke not so long ago,” he answered, and his hand came up to move the strand of hair out of her face. “A part of me still thinks this is a dream.”
“You proved it wasn’t yesterday when you bled yourself.” She reminded him, and that made him chuckle and nod.
“Yes, that too. Forgive me, but it felt too good to be true.”
“It is true.” She told him.
He nodded, “Yes, it is.”
They stayed silent for a while before Zera spoke again: “This past week, I thought about everything you said. About the baby we lost and conception, there are a few things that stayed on my mind.”
“What are those?” he asked.
She sat up, and the bedsheet fell off her body and onto the bed. She was naked from the waist up to his eyes, but he had to tear his gaze and mind away from anything carnal and give his undivided attention to her. What she wanted to say was important, and it would only be important if she got as much concentration from him as necessary.
“Does being a sage equate to infertility? If yes, why did I get pregnant?”
“There is still so much we don’t know that we might never know because we have no one to learn from except you, but Ivan’s journey to the past has revealed to him a few consistencies, and one was that the sages that have existed in the last few hundred years never sired offspring. They may or may not have had mates, but they did not have children. That consistency, aligned with how unexplainable your miscarriage was, made us conclude that might be the case. Our assumptions might not be correct, but that was a risk we didn’t want to take. We already have Zion, and I was content enough with him and you beside me. But I realised it was never my call to make, not without your knowledge.”
“And the pills? What now?”
“I stopped them last week even before coming over with the truth. If it was blurring the lines of reality for you as it was, then it wasn’t good.” He took her warm hands into his and said, “I promise I’ll never leave you in the dark again.”
“Good, then.”
He leaned in and kissed her lips, and she kissed back, a soft moan leaving her lips as he snaked his tongue into her mouth. His hand moved from her neck down to explore her exposed back, making her squirm against him.
“Did you have a hand in my rehiring at Stanford?” She asked him into the kiss, and he pulled back and cleared his throat. “Because my employment came around a few months after I lost our baby, and you were much more encouraging than the Aaron I knew. Especially because it was about me going back to work.” She concluded.
She was very smart and had thought this all true, and while he was thinking of how to apologise and make things right, she was thinking about other things that had happened that she was oblivious to during that time.
He didn’t want to duck the question, but a part of him felt it was being asked at the wrong time. He was heading towards making her moan and getting his own satisfaction from that, and now he had to return to the question and answer.
“Zera, you’re smart, so the credit for getting rehired at the university is all on you.” He answered, kissing her cheeks down to her jaw.
“So you’re telling me you did not have anything to do with my rehiring?” She raised a brow.
At this point, he felt like she knew the truth and wanted him to admit it to her.
“Zera…”
“Aaron… Did you have a hand in my rehiring?” She asked with a much firmer tone.
“I didn’t want you to stay home. I knew if you stayed home, you would only wallow, and so I spoke to the newly appointed vice chancellor, Dr. Angelo, and told him to hear you out. Everything that happened after you met was all your merit.” He answered and leaned in to kiss her shoulders, but she pulled away.
“You should have told me,” she said.
He sighed, “You’re right, I should have. I’m sorry.”
She glanced back at him with a raised brow and asked, “Is there anything else you’re hiding from me?”
He shook his head. “No, nothing else.”
“You’re sure? You know I can’t read you, and so all I have is trust that you’re honest. If I lose my trust in you, there’s nothing left.”
“I swear to you, there is nothing else. This is everything.” He answered.
She turned to him, wrapped her hand around his neck, pushed him into the bed, and got on top of him. The action took him by surprise because he didn’t see Zera initiating anything, but it was a pleasant surprise. She pushed off the bedsheet before settling on him so that their skin touched, and she ground her hips against him. He loved watching her take control and get what she wanted.
She leaned in and kissed the side of his face, mumbling, “Do not lie to me again, Aaron, or it will be the last time.” She said that and captured his lips between hers for a dominating kiss.
It was hot, deep, and hard. She moved her hand behind her back and helped herself onto him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and guided her up and down his length. He watched her move up and down, grinding against him in fierce pursuit of her release.
Her hands flattened in his chest as she kept grinding, and her fingers ran over his nipples, making them harden to her touch.
He was pulsing and jolting with excitement, and he knew his release would come soon. With the way she stared into his eyes, he knew she saw it, too.
She got her release, and it was explosive and mind-shattering, and she didn’t want to slow down until he got his. However, he couldn’t do that, so he pulled out of her a few seconds before he would release.
He murmured, his voice thicker and deeper than usual. “I’m not on the herbal pills; I do not want to get you pregnant,” he said.
At first, his actions stunned her, but after his explanation, she understood. While lying beside him, she kissed and stroked him, bringing him to his release.
