FRED
Fuck that damned bastard I called a brother. I had to close our communication portal because he let it open so I could hear what was going on in the bedroom. The darned bastard thought it was fun to tease me, knowing how occupied I was, and how long it would take me to complete my task and return home to our mate.
We had just gotten a feeling that the prison we erected between our worlds – LYXANT and Earth – was breached. To check on it, I had to be the one to leave since Blue had our Bunny in his arms. He would have been the one to do that, instead of being back at home.
“What’s going on?” I asked Chris the moment I got to the place. She was standing outside, with her hands in the pockets of the black jeans she was putting on, and her face scrunched up in a worried frown.
Leaning on the wall, she didn’t notice my presence until I asked the question. Startled, she looked up, only to draw away from the wall, replacing the worried frown on her face with fear as she watched me, not saying a word.
“How did she slip away?” I demanded, taking threatening steps towards her.
Terrified at the pissed expression on my face, and the low growl emanating from my chest, she knelt on the ground, tears welling her eyes.” I’m sorry, my king.”
“How did she escape?” I asked again, this time demanding a response from her. I needed to know how Imelda, a human, escaped from a prison I fortified with my brother.
When we caught Imelda months ago, Blue suggested we get rid of her as silently as we could, so she wouldn’t harm our mate, but I disagreed with it. Despite all the things she had done, and how she almost hurt our mate, should Bella get to hear of how we sorted it out, she wouldn’t be happy with us.
Just like how we let Chris off the slide, we built a prison to house Imelda, wiping her profile from Earth, so no one would look for her. The only ones who knew the location were Chris, my brother, and I. We only let Chris know because she was the one in charge of delivering her meals. We couldn’t let her starve to death after all.
“I don’t know,” Chris’s whispered response filtered into my thoughts, bringing my attention back to her. “I only noticed she wasn’t in there when I arrived to give her dinner,” she explained.
“Strange.” Marching over to the prison room, my gaze flickered around, seeking anything that might be out of place. I sniffed the air, a frown creeping up when I perceived an unfamiliar scent in the air.
Humans all smelled the same to me, and Chris had an herbal scent. However, the sandalwood odour in the air didn’t seem like it belonged to the two women. Someone else must have stepped into the room.
“Someone broke in,” I voiced out, my gaze going over to the bed we put in the small holding cell, and the food Chris just brought.
“I thought the same when I perceived a strange smell, but I couldn’t be too sure, which is why I didn’t tell you.” Chris’s voice was a whisper like she feared using her normal tone to avoid pissing me off.
“Impossible.” I put my right hand under my jaw, thinking of how feasible it was for someone to sneak into a place only three people knew. Not only that but whoever helped her must be good. We only got the signal late. “Did you notice anything odd these past few days?” I whirled around to face Chris, who was standing by the door, too scared to step into the room. Her terrified stare locked with mine as she thought about my question before she shook her head slowly.
“I would have known if there was….” she trailed off as her eyes widened dramatically. She glanced over to the bed before focusing on my face. “Imelda had been acting different these past few days.”
“How so?”
“I didn’t think it was odd, but now that I think of it, it is.”
“Which is?” My patience was already wearing thin.
“She was always smiling each time I visited this week,” she explained, her expression deep, and her eyes narrowed. “When I asked why she was happy, she didn’t respond. Instead, she said something odd.”
“What is it?” This time, I could hardly keep my annoyance out of my tone. Chris was just lucky she was our mate’s friend, else I would have strangled her for this.
“He’s coming for me. I linked my blood with his. He can tell where I am,” she repeated, word by word.
“And you didn’t fucking inform us?!” I snapped at her, my rage getting the best of me. “What the fucking hell is wrong with you????” My wolf was on the edge. I could feel it. The air in the room thickened as my anger went up to a higher degree like a freaking inferno trying to erupt.
Hearing those words from her made me realize we could have stopped whoever took Imelda from doing so if she had informed us about the odd development, but she didn’t.
She gasped, falling to the ground as she watched me approach, her face painted in horror. “Please,” she whimpered, curling into a ball.
“Do you know what you just did?” My voice was freaking low. It scared even me.
She shook her head, still curled into a ball, body shivering and tears flowing down her eyes.
“You put our bunny in fucking danger!” I snapped.
“I’m sorry.” Her whimpers got louder the angrier I became until it was almost irritating.
I had to take a calming breath, so I could be able to think straight. “If you want to redeem yourself, you better search for them.”
She stopped shaking when she heard me. My voice had returned to the normal tone, and she could tell I had lost the murderous intent I had a few seconds ago.
Getting to her feet, she bowed to me. “Thank you, my king. I will find her.”
“You better do.” Gritting my teeth, I turned my back to her, as I once more surveyed the place, to check if I could detect anything that would lead me to IMELDA.
One thing was certain. She was taken by Kandera. That fucking bastard. Wait until I get my hands on him. This time, I won’t let him go scot-free.
