Your people need you

Tears welled my eyes as they narrated everything to me. My coven sank with the death of my mother. The men the council sent were thorough with the jobs. They laid to waste my father’s pack and my mother’s coven, leaving no stone unturned. I was the only survivor.
“It was the same with our parents,” Blue said, taking my hand in his. He placed a kiss on it, silently sending his condolences for the death of my loved ones. “Had my father not been a Lycan, and my mother the queen of vampires, there would have been more than a bloodbath. Those bastards have killed us.”
My heart twisted at the thought of that happening to my lovers. Had they been executed like they should have, because of the taboo relationship between their parents, I wouldn’t have met them. Neither would I have felt the warmth of their touches.
“We will help you get revenge,” Fred vowed, staring into my eyes with a resolute gaze. “I promise you that.”
“It’s too late,” Blue muttered, looking at his brother like he had lost it. “We already dealt with those bastards years ago. Why else do you think Kandera kept on coming back for vengeance?”
“True.” Chuckling nervously, Fred ran his fingers through his hair. “Since we have taken revenge on them, we will spend our days making it up to you.” He placed a kiss on the back of my palm, grinning as he added, “You and our babies.”
I uttered no words. Different emotions clogged my throat, making it difficult for me to say anything. Not that I had something to express. At the moment, I didn’t. I was still grappling with everything that happened, and my memories which were back, to know what to say.
A cleared throat caused us to look up at Da Ankora, who was standing by the door, unsure if he was allowed in or not. His gaze travelled from my mates’ to mine before he averted them, looking towards the window like it houses something of interest.
“You can come in. It’s not like we have anything to say about that seeing this is your house,” Blue said, not sounding accommodating at all.
“Your gaze says something different.” Grumbling under his breath, he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. Instead of walking towards us like I thought he would, he strode over to his desk. “I trust you have recovered your memories, right?” He asked the question directed towards me, but his gaze focused on my mates like he feared looking at me.
“Yeah.” I nodded at that.
“Good.”
“What do we do now?” Fred demanded, getting to his feet. “Is there anything we need to know? Like side effects?”
“I can’t tell.” Da Ankora lifted his shoulders in a shrug, letting out a sigh when Blue growled. “I truthfully can’t help you that much. I’m not perfect with hybrids like you all know. I can only tell you the much I know. You will have to figure the rest out yourselves.”
“Is that supposed to be of any help to us?” Blue gritted out, his tone taking an edge I knew all too well. “Why the hell did you take up something you know nothing about?”
“To assist you.” Da Ankora’s response was flat. “Had it not been for me, you wouldn’t have known your mate wasn’t human, right?” He laced his fingers and placed his joined hands on the desk, watching us. “I will always be here should you need any help concerning her change. That’s all I can help you with.”
“Do you know someone else who can assist us?” Fred asked, unlike Blue, he was cool-headed.
“When you wiped off all the old men who pissed you off years ago?” Da Ankora scoffed. “If you require aid from your people, you will have to do more than ask. I think it’s time to step up to your duty. The throne needs their kings, and Luna.” This time, his gaze went to mine for a second before he averted it once more. “That’s the only way you can fulfil the terms of the prophecy. The throne might help -”
“To hell with the throne and the damned prophecy!” Blue clenched his fist, his wolf almost at the end. His eyes had entirely changed to golden. I even feared he might change mid-growl.
“You can’t keep running from it. It’s your destiny. The throne is calling to you. With your Luna -”
“Take Bella out of this conversation!” Fred snapped before Blue could do that. “We left the throne years ago, and won’t return to it.”
“Are you certain about that?” Da Ankora smirked like he had a secret he wasn’t letting on, almost like he could see the future. “I will always be here to remind you of your words when you sit on the throne, to reunite the kingdom.”
“You will die waiting for that day.” Blue turned his back to him. “We don’t care if the kingdom goes up in flames. Nothing will make us return.”
I wanted to ask why they were so against returning to their throne like it was some sort of punishment or taboo to them, but I bit back the question. I would have ample time to ask them about it when we return. Da Ankora’s house didn’t seem like the best place to do that. Moreover, calming their raging beasts seemed to be the best approach to take at the moment.
“It won’t be for long, my alphas.”
Grumbling under his breath, Blue scooped me up from the bed and placed me on his chest, careful enough not to let the shirt part.
“See you never, Da Ankora,” he said to the still amused elderly man as he carried me towards the exit. “I hope we never meet again.”
“Don’t be so certain of it!” Da Ankora yelled as the door slammed shut behind us.
“Damn annoying old man,” Fred muttered, walking past us to open the door for Blue. “He’s lucky he’s our father’s friend. Else, we would have had his head.”
I didn’t doubt that. Knowing how hot-blooded they were, it was a surprise how they kept on withholding their anger each time Da Ankora riled them up. My mates were loyal to a fault. Da Ankora was more important to them than they let on.
The minute we got home, I peered up at Blue, smirking when I asked him to take me to my bathroom. If he thought anything odd about my request, he didn’t mention it as he carried me upstairs to my room.
