BLUE
The moment the door closed behind us, I turned to my brother, lifting an eyebrow in question. “What do we do now?”
“Make lunch for her.” He lifted his shoulders in a shrug. “What else do you have in mind?”
“Are we just letting things slide? Do you intend to pretend that everything is okay without doing anything?” I slammed my fist on the wall, growling at him. I knew my eyes must be golden, showing the emotions swirling in them.
Fred puffed out a breath, staring at me with a hooded expression, with his head tilted to the side as he observed me. His eyes trailed me from my head to my toes before it returned to my eyes. “Our Bunny just woke up. The least we could do was make lunch for her. We will talk about other things later.”
“What if I want to do that now?” I stepped in front of him. “The more time we waste, the farther that bastard goes!”
He winced when I slammed my fist on the wall. I didn’t show any expression as I strode back. Blood dripped down my wound like rainfall as I peered up at him.
“I know how concerned you are about his escape, but… We need to take care of our Bunny first, okay?”
I stalled, glaring at him. I knew what he said was the truth. We both knew we needed to take care of our Bunny before thinking of the man who took her, but I was impatient.
“Okay,” I agreed, my voice barely a whisper. “We will go after him… Later.”
“Good.” He bumped his shoulder with mine as he walked past. “Don’t forget to clean up the blood. You don’t want our Bunny getting all worried about you,” he threw over his shoulders, grinning when I shot a dark glare at him.
….
After I prepared lunch and coaxed our mate to eat and take her medicine, we watched her sleep before we left the house.
Chris was standing outside the door when we exited. The moment her eyes landed on us, she drew a step back.
“How’s she?” She whispered, her shoulders visibly shaking. We could smell the fear wafting from her in waves and knew why.
“She’s still sleeping,” Fred mumbled as he walked past her to the car. “Return to your house. You are not needed here,” he added, his voice not as accommodating as it was at first.
“My Kings -”
“Don’t you dare call us that!” His eyebrows twitched in annoyance. “We haven’t forgotten your crime, Chris.”
“I’m sorry!” She knelt on the ground and crossed her right arm over her chest. “I didn’t -”
“You are lucky our Bunny thinks highly of you.” Glaring at her, I walked over to my brother. “Return to your house and reflect on your past actions. We will bring our Bunny with us to visit you. Think of what we asked you to do.”
“Okay,” she whispered, her shoulders dropping in resignation. She looked like a sad rabbit with droopy ears. Not like our cute bunny.
The moment we got into the car, she got up from the ground and stared up at the house before she took off, disappearing faster than she would have before we found out about her secrets.
“What do we do about her?” Fred demanded, starting the car.
“What else?” I got on my seatbelt. “As long as she’s not doing anything to harm our Bunny, we will just let it slide.”
“Even though she’s one of the wanted witches?” He widened his eyes.
“Do you have anything else in mind?”
“It’s just…” He puffed out a breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. “What if she hurts our Bunny?”
“She hasn’t done that since they became friends, has she? Don’t forget she’s from the protector clan. She might have marked our Bunny as her mistress.”
“That’s impossible.” He shook his head, frowning. “She’s a hybrid, with her witch side far weighing down-”
“But she destroyed the old celestial palace? We will keep her under watch, so she won’t hurt her,” I suggested, waiting for him to start the car. “I wonder how she had been able to stay under the radar.”
“Never trust a witch,” grumbling under his breath, he started the car and drove out of our property.
Before we left, we assigned Scarlett to watch over her. This way, she would alert us when she woke up.
“Do you think she did it?” He asked after some minutes.
“Who?” I blinked, looking towards my brother.
“Chris. Do you think she was among the witches that burnt the celestial palace?” He repeated.
“Who knows?” I lifted my shoulders in a shrug. “She’s the only survivor in her clan, and the most wanted. She alone knows her story.”
Even though she claimed she could only recall a fraction of what happened there before she left. She didn’t even freaking recognize us until we showed our real self. Okay, I did. Had I not turned partially when I perceived the scent of our mate, we wouldn’t have known that the ‘human’ friend our Bunny had was a half-witch, half-werewolf, though her werewolf gene was dormant…
The moment we got to the place we found our Bunny, we exited the car. Out here, we could do anything we wanted without getting spotted by the curious humans who don’t mind their business. I bet one of them would come running with a camera should they catch a whisper of what we truly were.
I looked towards Fred, who nodded before we took off into the night, partially changed. Though the scent we caught in the air wasn’t that strong, we could follow it. Undoubtedly, we recognized who it was. That blood bastard, Kandera. He was the only werewolf we knew who practised dark magic after they wiped the witches off, just like the vampires.
The pungent scent of Durian was difficult to conceal, something only the powerful witches could boast of.
The faster we ran down the forest, occasionally jumping on trees, the nearer the scent became, until we could almost taste it. We had to cover our noses, so we wouldn’t die. Talk of having a sensitive nose at the least appreciated time.
