We can’t hear your thoughts anymore

“Your mate?” I squinted at that. “Like age buddy?” I gave them a dubious look. “I know I’m not that familiar with you guys, but there’s one thing I’m certain about, and that’s how old you are. Last I checked, Blue said you were older than I gave you credit for. How then did we turn to age mates?” I scoffed, folding my arms as I watched them, waiting to hear their response, to know if they would lie their way out of this like they had been doing.
“Not that.” Blue rubbed the back of his neck as he got on the bed. He took my hand in his, sighing as he gathered his thoughts. “You are the one made for us. Like our soulmate.”
“Soulmate?” I looked towards Fred, who nodded, smiling.
“You are the only one we will ever be with until the end of time. The one specially made for us,” he whispered as he held my right hand in his and planted a kiss on the back. “You are ours, Bella.”
Ours?
I gulped, trying to regulate my breathing. This was something I have always ached to hear, for them to tell me that this wasn’t just a fling, but forever. Hearing them say it now made it seem like I was about to lose my breath. I leaned on the headboard and watched them, confused about how to process the information.
With their promise came a dark feeling of uncertainty, crawling like a centipede up my skin and to my heart.
What if they only wanted me because I was their soulmate? I hadn’t read enough supernatural books, but I had read about how most of these creatures get controlled because of something they couldn’t fight. Was this one of the cases?
“We had liked you even before we knew you were our mate,” Blue whispered, peering up at me. “We fell in love with you a long time ago.”
“What?” I gulped, frowning when I realized something. “You read my mind. That’s why you can tell what I’m thinking,” I accused, feeling betrayed. With them reading my mind, I didn’t have as many secrets as I thought I did.
“That’s something puzzling,” Fred muttered as he sat on the bed. “Ever since you woke up, something changed. Your scent and your…” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “We can’t hear your thoughts anymore. It’s as if you erected a barrier to block us,” he explained.
“A barrier to obstruct you?” I squinted. “What the hell are you going on about? Are you trying to distract me from the fact that you know everything I’m thinking about?” I wagged my index finger at them.
“No. We are not lying,” Blue asserted, leaning forward to place a peck on my forehead. “Though we have missed hearing your thoughts all the time, I guess it’s better this way.”
“How?”
“You need some privacy, and we never gave you that,” Fred responded as he, too, placed a kiss on my forehead.
“Don’t you consider it weird?” I wondered, giving them a stare.
“Strange?” Blue peered down at me before he shook his head. “I believe you are learning how to block us. It’s nice this way. So, you won’t get controlled by those motherfuckers!” He gritted his teeth, looking murderous.
I had to reach out to him, to smoothen the lines on his face. “It’s alright. You don’t need to look like that. It’s in the past.”
“Yeah, it’s history,” he agreed, even though he didn’t seem like he would take my word to heart. Sighing, he sat back on the bed. “What do you want to eat? I will make it for you?”
“Anything,” Fred added, sounding ready to please.
“Anything?” I grinned, peering at them through my lashes.
“Anything but not what you have in mind,” Fred grumbled, poking my forehead.
I coloured at his words. “So you lied to me?” I whispered, looking at them. “You could still hear what I’m thinking, but tried to fool me!” I charged, wagging my index finger at them.
“That’s not true, darling. We can tell what’s going through your mind just from the glint in your eyes,” Blue poked my forehead as he got up from the bed.
“That’s not fair!” I moaned shamelessly, pouting when they fixed their gazes on me. “It’s not freaking fair!”
Instead of sympathizing with me, they broke out in uncontrollable laughter, making it seem like there was nothing funny with what I did and said.
“Hey!” I threw my pillow at them, wincing when I felt the sharp pain in my rear and the place that bastard injected me on. I had even forgotten about it until at the moment.
“Are you okay?” They rushed to me at once. “Do you still feel any pain?” Fred asked, gulping as he helped me lie back on the bed.
“You know what’s painful?” I pursed my lips and raised my eyebrows.
“What is it?”
“You thinking what I want is a damned joke! Do I look like one to you?”
“No, you are not.” Fred placed a kiss on my forehead. “To tell you what, if you eat enough tonight and regain your strength, we will fulfil your wish. Even if it stops at oral.”
“Yeah!” I sat up on the bed only to collapse back as a sharp twinge shot through me. Fuck my back!
Instead of laughing like they did at first, they helped me sit up.
“Is the offer still available?”
“Yup. As long as you are no longer in pain.” Smirking, Fred removed some strands of hair from my face. “Now, what do you wish to eat?”
“Anything!” I clapped in glee, barely holding back. “I’m good with anything.”
“Okay. I will see what I can do.” Blue caressed my chin before he got up from the bed. “Chris wanted to meet you, but we told her you will be tired when you wake up. Tomorrow, we will take you to see her.”
“Chris?” I blinked, recalling I had a best friend.
Fuck me. How did I forget about her? What the hell could be wrong with me? Okay. Not that she didn’t deserve it, for snitching on me and making the entire office know I was dating their bosses.
“Yeah, Chris. There’s… There’s something we need to talk about her, but for now, you need to rest.” Fred placed a kiss on my left cheek. “Rest well, darling… Don’t forget your promise. We will only do it with you when you have rested enough and had your meal.”
As if I will forget that.
Scoffing, I closed my eyes and tried to forget everything, so I could rest. This way, my body wouldn’t hurt later.
“We will come up with your food and drugs in a few, okay?”
“Roger that.”
