BELLA
I was going through my notes when I heard my buzzer. Puzzled, I walked towards it, my heart hammering against my chest. I didn’t understand why I felt that way. It could be because of the stares I received behind me when I stepped into my building an hour ago. It felt like someone was watching me, but when I turned, I saw no one. The security man was the only one, and he wasn’t looking at me. He was busy with his phone.
I walked towards the door, beating myself about my decision not to have a peephole installed. I would have to take care of that tomorrow. It didn’t hurt to be careful, especially when the state isn’t safe.
I stood next to the door and listened, waiting for another buzz, and it came. Swallowing, I opened the door, only to bang it shut when I saw the ones standing on the other side of the door. My heart skipped a beat at that, the organ hammering against my chest.
Fuck!
What were they doing in my house? I gulped, my hand shaking both from nerves and excitement. I was just thinking of them as I went through their notes, only to have them visit me.
“Bunny?” Fred called out to me. He didn’t press the buzzer this time. He knocked on the door.
I didn’t react, placing my palm over my heart as I tried to calm the racing organ. I looked towards the sitting room, at the state it was in. Everything was neat, aside from the papers littered on the ground. I rushed towards them and packed them all, stuffing them into the bin.
My gaze went around my sitting room, to be certain it was okay before I walked towards the door. My hands shook as I lifted the right one to open the door, still feeling as nervous as hell.
“Bella -”
“What are you doing here?” I demanded, barely hiding how anxious I felt. I bet they could tell I was nervous.
“Oh. We were taking a walk around the neighbourhood and decided to visit you, Bella. Is that alright?” Fred inquired, flashing a smile my way.
“It’s – how did you know my house?” I asked, my eyes widening. If memory served me well, the first time they left their mansion was when I went on a date. They had never left after that. It didn’t make sense that they knew where I lived and my flat if they weren’t…. “Were you stalking me?” I gasped.
Could the stares I felt earlier be from them? It made little sense though. They were in their house when I left this evening. Else, how did they catch up with me that easily?
“Do you think we don’t know about you, darling?” Blue asked, flashing a smile my way. It was the first words he said to me since I opened the door.
“You -”
“We had one of our workers check on you. That was why we gave you the job.” Fred leaned towards me to whisper, “Do you think we would have given you the position without knowing who you were? What if you turned out to be a killer? How would we survive?”
I gulped at that, tucking a strand of my hair behind my left ear. “That makes sense.”
Though it crept me out that they had me investigated before they reached out to me, I felt they only did that for their safety.
“Come in.” I stepped out of the way and ushered them into the house.
Smiling, they walked in, sniffing the air like dogs. I wanted to ask why they did that but kept the question to myself. My flat must be the first place they had gone to aside from their house, which was why they needed to know how different it smells.
“Have a seat.” I gestured towards my sofa.
They thanked me as they sat down, still smiling. Their eyes wandered around my sitting room, taking everything in. They looked like children as they gave everything an expression of wonder.
“What would you like to have? I have yoghurts, juice and -”
“Yoghurts will be okay,” Fred interrupted his gaze on a picture I took during my high school graduation.
He stood up and walked towards it. “Is that you?” He asked, picking the frame up to stare at it. “You look so… Cute.”
I blushed at his choice of words, tugging at my ears as I tried to hide my expression. Blue got up from the couch and approached his brother, taking the frame from him.
“That was during my high school graduation,” I said, watching them gawk at the picture as if it were something odd.
Having them in my space made me feel nervous. This was the first time someone else aside from Chris visited me, and they made my normally large house seem so small.
“You didn’t change at all,” Blue commented as he looked towards me before his focus returned to the picture in my hand. “You only lost the baby fat.”
“I’m an adult now, aren’t I? I took that picture when I was almost seventeen.” I turned and fled the sitting room before they could say something embarrassing to me.
I went over to the kitchen to get the yoghurts for them. Luckily, I went grocery shopping the day before. Else, I wouldn’t have had anything to give to them.
I got two yoghurts and left the kitchen for my sitting room. They were still standing in the same position, looking at my picture.
“You might bore holes into that if you don’t keep it,” I said, dropping the yoghurts on the table. “Here it is, your orders, sir,” I joked.
“Thank you.”
Blue kept the picture back in its position as they came over to the table. I watched as they took a yoghurt can each and uncorked it. This was my first time seeing them eat something.
I’d never seen them take anything, mostly because I didn’t spend more than the needed time with them. Watching them, left me to wonder how men could be so perfect, down to the way they ate. Had I not known better, I would have thought they were royalties because of how they carried themselves. o
Aside from fucking, when they were almost like unhinged beasts, they seemed more coordinated when doing other things.
