“Mom, I heard what had happened,” Cael said, going into his mother’s room. The staff were already gossiping that a strange woman had come home and had lunch with Charles. They did not know the true tale, and no one could say what it was but Abigail’s screaming and throwing of things, who seemed to be enraged.
“What did you hear? Did you hear the full story or did you hear the gossip from the staff?” Abigail screamed as he got into the room and closed the door. She knew that her energy should have been directed toward someone else, but she could not help the way she felt at that time.
“I heard what the staff said,” Cael said in a careful voice. He had seen his mom get range a few times, even with the way Charles treated her sometimes. All she did was take it with good faith. It was the first time she had made bad gossip on the lips of the staff, and it was bad. Usually, the sons and cousins were the topic of discussion amongst the staff.
“Okay then, that means you do not know what happened,” She said, swallowing, and she stopped pacing and sat down in front of him.
“Mom, you need to tell me what happened so I can know.”
“Of course, if you and I are doing that right now,” she said and swallowed again. “So I was just minding my usual daily busyness when Cade walked in here with a strange woman. Looking at her at a glance, I can tell that she was his mistress because she was older. At this moment, I wish she was his mistress. It would have made life so much easier for me. Cade had the guts to bring his mom into this house. UNDER MY ROOF” she said in a loud pained voice.
“How did he find her? I thought Grandpa told him that she was dead.”
“We do not care how they met; all we care about is ourselves, okay?” Abigail said she had gone from herself to him.
“Yes, definitely,” he knew he had to let his brain work or else his memory would be all she felt for him.
“Charles welcomes her into the family and asks her to move in here.”
“That was Cade’s plan all along.”
“I think so as well.” Abigail had not thought of it that way, but now that her son said it, it was unlikely that was what was going on. Cade was just trying to displace her.
“And Grandpa agreed? I thought he did not want her in his life.”
“He was the one who even suggested it.”
“That is bad,” Cae said, saying he was giving an announcement.
“You do not think I do not know that?”
“Sorry Mom,” Cael murmured.
“Cael honey,” she said, moving to the edge of her seat, hoping to get closer to him. “We do not have time to waste with petty things like trying to bring him down. We need a big gun.”
“A big gun?” Cael said, his eyes blinking rapidly. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, we have no time to try and use all those small fish. Taking our time to take Cade out of the gym to work. We need to take him out of the game once and for all. A drastic blow,” she said.
“Do you have a plan?”
“No, but I am telling you this so you can also think of a plan too,” she said, rolling her eyes. “As much as I would benefit from this, the one who would benefit the most is you. You would be alive long after I am gone; your children would continue to be the ones to take over and not me, so you need to think of a plan.”
“Yes, mom,” he said.
“Before that, let us hurry with your wedding. Let us try to get you married by next week.”
“Next week?” It was too sudden for Cael, and he was not so sure if he wanted to be with Frances; she seemed lovely, but she was too goal-driven. He already had his mom for that; he did not think he wanted his wife to be that way as well. “Isn’t it too early?”
“Cade already has an advantage over you. The entire country already thinks he is in a loving and cute romantic relationship, and you are the elder brother who still lives with his parents.”
“But mom…”
“If you do not want to lose anything, you have to lie to me. Call Frances up tomorrow and tell her to come see me. I am sure she would understand me. Also, call Harper and tell her that we no longer need her to help us with Cade.” Abigail did not care what the girl did with herself, but there was no way she was going to invest her time trying to help her achieve her goal when she had a bigger desire.
“I will do that,” Cael said, knowing that arguing with her was pointless and that he was still going to have everything her way.
“Good, now go to bed so you can be early to work tomorrow. Also, from tomorrow night we begin to meet the board of directors and shareholders. Since I am sharing, I can call for an emergency meeting, and I will do that as soon as you get married.”
“What is the meeting for?”
“We are going to move for the retirement of your grandfather and the appointment of you as the next chairman. If we do not strike while the iron is hot, then we will lose.”
Cael knew that if he did not have Abigail as his mom, he would end up on the street. “Also let us gather evidence of laundering and pin it on Cade.”
“Mom,” he gasped. They had agreed before that even though Cade was not going to be the chairman, they would let him still live in the family; after all, he was always getting out of their way. “He could go to jail for that.”
“That is exactly what I want.”
