Then he stopped talking and focused on driving. She withdrew her gaze. The atmosphere in the car was a bit dull, so Tom turned on the music. The lyrics were particularly touching-
“I give you my plain and simple waiting and guarding, I give you my passionate longing and tenderness, I give you my countless joys and sorrows, I give you all of my insignificant everything…”
“I give you my smiling lips and eyes, I give you my brilliant early spring and deep autumn, I give you my unpolished innocent freedom, I give you all of my most precious everything…”
“I give you my unwavering long-lasting love, you give me your hand still tightly held years later…”
Listening to the music, Agnes couldn’t help but turn her gaze to the window. These heartfelt lyrics made her nose tingle with the urge to cry.
“Give you maturity, you give me compromise, will we grow old together?”
This was just a favor she was doing for him, just two people playing a role in a drama. How could she let herself get too involved?
So Agnes tried hard to control her emotions, despite the constant flashbacks of last night’s kiss and embrace.
Tom was driving and gave a light cough. The girl snapped back to reality and looked at him nervously, “Did you catch a cold last night?”
Tom shook his head and glanced at her, “No.”
Then he looked ahead again.
He seemed to remember something suddenly and asked, “Your parents need to attend tonight’s dinner. What are your plans?”
The girl responded rationally, “It’s definitely not possible to involve my parents. They’re busy preparing for my sister’s wedding. It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to interfere now. Besides, our engagement is fake; we can’t explain that to them.”
The elders would never agree to such a crazy act.
She emphasized the words “fake engagement,” hoping to gauge his reaction.
To her surprise, Tom remained calm and even nodded in agreement, “So can you find someone trustworthy?”
The girl glanced at him, feeling a bit disappointed inside.
Did he have any feelings for her at all?
Agnes longed for him to like her just as she liked him.
She hoped he would say, “Agnes, I like you. Let’s be together. I’ll go to your parents and talk to them…”
Quickly regaining composure, she took a deep breath and looked away again.
“I can ask my brother-in-law for help with this. Don’t worry; it won’t mess up.”
She loved him enough to help him no matter what.
“Okay,” Tom felt reassured and said, “Let me know about any expenses incurred; I’ll cover them.”
The girl remained silent.
Soon after, his car stopped in front of her sister’s apartment building. Agnes had to part ways with him, feeling deeply reluctant and sad inside.
As she opened the car door, she paused and asked, “Do you want to see your kitten?”
Tom Fritz thought for a moment, “Sure.”
“Wait here; I’ll be right back.”
She got out of the car and walked towards the building entrance.
Sitting in the Volvo’s driver’s seat, Tom watched her figure disappear from sight with a gentle expression and deep eyes.
Summer and Spencer were getting married. Early this morning they went to the wedding venue for final inspections after everything had been set up.
Soon after, Agnes came downstairs holding the kitten. She was smiling brightly like a child, “Bubu! Daddy’s here to see you!”
Tom got out of the car as well.
