It’s been a week since Amber agreed to be my girlfriend. A week that has been full of happiness and laughter. I can’t believe this is happening but it is.
Today is a Friday evening and as I listen to the lecturer summarise the boring physics lesson, I can’t help but smile to myself.
Thinking about amber makes me happy but amidst everything, I can’t ignore the hurt look on Viona’s face.
She somehow learnt that I was dating Amber and the reaction she gave me wasn’t something I was expecting.

I thought we did but obviously, that was my conclusion all along.
She didn’t share the same sentiments with me.
I have caught her glaring at me several times. The look of betrayal on her face makes me shiver.
Selena and Alex suggested I talk to her after they noticed her hatred towards me.
They had forced me to spill the beans of what transpired between us and I did.
Of course, I did get an earful from them which added more to my frustration.
” I suggest you engage her and clear the air. I don’t think she is unreasonable not to see your sincerity.” Those were Selena’s words.
Alex agreed with her.
The last thing I want is to create more misunderstanding between us so I decided to take the advice of my two friends.
Once the lecture is done, I gather my stuff and make a beeline for Viona.
I reach her side and clear my throat, “hey…”
She glares at me with the iciest stare she can muster.
I sigh, “Viona, please… Can we talk?”
“I’m listening,” she replies.
“Not here. In private.”
“No,” she says curtly and walks away from me.
“Damn it,” I grumble under my breath and run after her.
“Please, Viona. You can’t avoid me forever,” I say to her as she walks down the hallway.
She doesn’t even bother looking at me.
“Why are you acting like I did you wrong? What happened between us was… ”
” A mistake? ” She whipped around with a glare before I could finish my statement.
“Yes. It was a mistake. But… I never intended for it to happen. I didn’t force myself on you. You said you wanted it. You… ”
“Stop right there!” she shouted and the entire hallway suddenly went quiet.
Everyone stared at us, some were whispering amongst themselves.
I felt a pang of embarrassment at the unwanted attention.
Viona glared at me with anger.
“What the fuck are you trying to imply? That I’m some sort of whore? I’m not like your other girl toys, so you can keep your filthy words to yourself,” she spat before walking away.
I stood fixed, my brain trying to fathom what the hell just happened.
” Alvin? ” Alex’s voice sounded behind me a moment before his hands found my shoulders, tapping them lightly.
” I didn’t know she would react like this man, I’m so sorry. ”
I shook my head.
” It’s okay. What I don’t get is why she is acting this way? Like I promised her something.
What happened was something that spurred out of the moment.”
” You have to understand that rejection hurts. Maybe she is embarrassed that you didn’t share the same feelings?
And maybe the fact that you are now dating Amber has triggered something in her.” Alex spoke.
” I’m sorry Alvin. I might have said something to Viona that raised her hopes on you. ” Selena who had been quiet spoke.
” You said something to her? ” I narrowed my eyes on her.
” Well, yeah. Alex said that you liked Viona so I told her that.
I didn’t mean to make things worse for you. I’m sorry.” Selena explained, a look of guilt written on her face.
” It’s fine Selena, but I don’t know what to do anymore.
This situation is making things difficult for me. ” I said with a sigh.
” We’ll figure something out.” Alex comforted me.
” Anyway, where is Amber? ” he asked.
Hearing Amber’s name made me smile involuntarily.
” Probably at home, waiting for me. ” I replied and Alex gave me a wide smile.
” Oh, how beautiful love is. ” he said with a dramatic wave of his hand.
” Stop being ridiculous. ” I laughed and pushed him aside.
” So what do you guys want to do tonight? We could hangout in my apartment. ” Selena proposed.
” That would be awesome. We’ll come by later.” Alex answered.
” I’m not sure about that. It’s my first weekend after, you know. I want to keep her company. ” I refused.
A movie night sounded fun but having Amber in my arms as we cuddled or probably did more sounded more fun.
“I guess. I can’t blame you.” Alex chuckled and Selena smiled.
We walked together and separated when we got to the parking lot.
I drove to the supermarket, got some snacks and a bottle of wine before heading home.
As soon as I got inside my apartment, the door was thrown open and the next thing I knew, I was wrapped in the arms of Amber.
“Alvin.”
“Hey, sweetheart. ”
I kissed the top of her head as she pulled away, beaming.
” I’m happy you’re home. How was school? ”
” It was tiring.”
I looked away, not wanting her to get a whiff of my dampened mood after viona’s accusations earlier.
” Just tiring? ” Amber asked and I could feel her gaze on me.
” Yeah, and boring.
What are we doing today? ” I quickly changed the topic and headed towards the kitchen.
Amber followed closely behind, still staring at me.
I turned and looked at her, “What is it?”
” Alvin…
Something happened. Didn’t it? ”
Amber asked with worry in her voice.
” Nothing happened. ” I replied and opened the fridge to grab a bottle of water.
Amber grabbed my hand and closed the fridge before turning me around to face her.
“Alvin, look at me.”
I sighed and stared into her beautiful brown eyes.
“Tell me. What happened? ” Her orbs reflected the worry in them andika and I found myself pulling her in my embrace.
” It’s nothing I can’t handle. ” I didn’t want to burden her with my mess that I had created.
