Jayce’s POV.
Alora and I have been living like cats and rats at home ever since we had that talk where she mentioned Skye out of nowhere. I got really pissed off especially when she walked out on me. We had an ugly fight that night that led to us raising our voices at each other and her bursting into tears. We are living like enemies at home and it doesn’t sit right with me, but I have no idea how to go about remedying the situation.
She was wrong to bring up Skye’s name like that, but maybe if I hadn’t gotten too upset, things would be too tense between us.
I sigh and rise from my office chair, pacing about with both hands stationed on my waist.
The tension between us is suffocating and the fact that I haven’t had a proper conversation with her for days now is killing me. I have to do something.
“King, don’t just ghost me like this has nothing to do with you? Give me ideas on how to go about settling this issue with Alora.” I consult my wolf who sighs and shakes his head.
“It’s not my temper that got out of hand.”
“I was upset!” I defend myself.
“Then deal with the consequences yourself. Why get me involved?”
“Must you always be such a dick?”
“If you’re done insulting me, why don’t you swallow that enormous pride of yours and apologise to her first?”
“My pride has got nothing to do with this!”
“You tell yourself that?” He asks softly. I groan and shut him out. I should have known asking him for help won’t do me any good. I immediately adjust the look on my face when I hear a knock on my office door. It’s either Reed or Lloyd, so I give the signal for the person to come in and the door opens, revealing Reed.
“Good morning.” He greets in his usual cool tone as he approaches me with a file in his hand. He’s dressed in a pair of black trousers and a black long sleeved shirt tucked into it. No suit jacket, just like me.
Now that I’m aware of the fact that we are brothers, I can see the striking resemblance between us. I never noticed before because I had no idea we are related.
“Good morning, Reed.”
“Why do you look so worked up this morning?” He places the file he came in with on my table and looks at me expectantly. I squint at him.
“I don’t look worked up.”
“Says the man who can’t even see his own face.”
“My face is fine!”
And there we go… bickering.
It’s something we can’t do without.
“If you say so.” He shrugs his shoulders. I look at him long and hard, wondering if I should tell him about my present predicament with Alora, but then I think of how much he’s going to castigate me for letting the problem stretch out for days, so I shut my mouth and stay still.
“If you’re thinking about asking me for a hug, you better stop.”
“Reed, shut up!” I walk to my wall to the ceiling glass window and occupy myself by looking at the busy street down while we wait for Lloyd to arrive. It doesn’t take long before I hear another knock on the door. Lloyd walks in and I’m overwhelmed with horror when my eyes fall on a red wound-line that extends from his left jaw bone to the centre of his chin.
“What the hell happened to your face?” I ask aghast as I approach him. He stops in his tracks and sighs heavily.
“Yeah, what happened?” Asks Reed as he joins us. Lloyd looks at me with searching eyes and calmly shakes his head.
“It’s nothing serious. I was careless with a sharp instrument this morning and this was my lesson.”
“You were careless with an instrument?” Reeds asks as he steps closer to Lloyd and holds his chin, examining the wound very carefully. “This wound doesn’t look like that which was caused by accident. It seems like someone carefully Reed a line with his claw, or a dagger on your flesh. Don’t you think so, Jayce?” He gestures to me to take a look and I do. I look at the wound carefully and notice that Reed is right.
The line is a perfectly drawn one across his jaw.
“Reed is right. This doesn’t look like a wound caused by an accident.”
“So tell us Lloyd, were you attacked by someone this morning?” Reed asks in a serious tone. Lloyd swallows dryly and clears his throat, flicking his gaze away from Reed. I can see his jaw bones twitching. That means he’s annoyed, even his fists are curled by his side. He looks like he’s going to punch Reed any time soon.
What’s going on with these two?
“Lloyd.” I call, getting his attention. “Tell us what really happened.”
“I already did, Alpha. I had an accident with a sharp instrument this morning. If this wound looks like it was deliberately inflicted, then it’s simply a coincidence. No one attacked me this morning.”
“Are you sure?” He nods his head.
“Yes, Alpha.” I clear my throat and nudge Reed with my elbow step away from him. The stubborn man scoffs and shakes his head, still looking intensely at Lloyd who seems to be running out of the patience that’s keeping him from hitting Reed.
“Too bad it’s going to disappear in a few days. It would have left a beautiful scar.” I pull Reed away from Lloyd before punches start flying in my office.
“Do you alway have to be such a pain in the ass for everyone?”
“You can go ahead and claim the good twin title. I’m down for mischief!” He smirks and yanks his hand away from my hold. I just shake my head and leave his side.
Reed is irritating as fuck!
—————————–
This evening, I went back home to my mate lying stark naked on my bed with bright lights out and the room dimly lit by alternating colors from a special bulb hanging above.
The suitcase in my hand drops to the floor as Alora steps down from the bed and glides towards me in manner I have never seen her walk before. Her hips are swaying from left to right and the seductive smile on her face sends shivers down my spine.
What is she up to?
Once in front of me, she gets on her toes and leans closer to me, her lips grazing the side of my neck, up to my left ear and I see stars when she whispers the words-
“Welcome home, love.” In my ears.
A welcome greeting had never sounded so sexy.
I’m speechless.
“What…what’s going on, Alora?” I ask, completely confused. She simply smiles and takes my hand, leading me to the bed.
“This is my way of apologizing for my bitchy attitude the other day and for acting like you were the one at fault these past days.”
Two, three, four… all my shirt buttons are undone and the sleeve of my shirt is sliding out of my arms. It’s soon discarded on the floor and my breath hitches in my throat when she stoops down and starts unbuckling my belt.
“Alora.” Is all I manage and I watch her make me go crazy with her seductive action and charming smile on her face.
If this is what I’ll come home to every time we have a fight, then let’s fight often.
