Jovan’S POV.
“Jovan!” My mum’s voice thunders throughout my bedroom as she barges in, breathing profusely and I have to look behind her to check if she’s being chased. I jump down from my bed at the speed of light, frowning because of how rudely she just interrupted my afternoon nap.
“Goodness mum! What are you doing in my bedroom screaming at this time of the day?” I ask, rubbing my eyes with my hands to clear them and she takes a firm pose before me.
“It seems you have no idea what just happened.”
“What happened, mum?” Now I’m fully awake and alert. If my mother is in my bedroom at this time of the day, screaming her lungs out, it means something has definitely gone wrong somewhere.
“The plan failed again! And this time around, someone has been arrested. Two people actually. I don’t know how it happened, but the attack we planned on Alora this afternoon has been traced to both Tania and Skye and they have been arrested. They have both been locked up in the dungeon!”
“No!” I deny in total disbelief. Her words are jarring in my ears like a huge church bell. My scalp and ears start itching. My entire body goes hot. Horror is skating through me. “That’s not true.”
“It is true, Jovan and what you have to do right now is go over to that dungeon and make sure those girls say nothing about your involvement in this issue because if they do…”
“They won’t!” I quickly cut her off and rush into my closet to change my clothes.
As I ransack the shelves, searching for what to wear, beads of sweat trickle down my tremble and even within my body. My brain is overloaded with all the sensations happening inside me at this moment.
They can’t say what they know.
If they do, then it’s over for me.
My plans will be ruined and I will be banished from this pack.
I can’t end like this!
I change my clothes at the speed of light and leave the closet. When I get to the bedroom, my mother is nowhere to be found so I exit the bedroom and make my way straight to the dungeon, making sure no one sees me.
At the dungeon, I’m taken to Skye’s cell. The moment she sees me, she rises to her feet and rushes over to me with her face completely drenched with tears. She looks miserable, but that’s not my problem. I don’t even care if she gets killed.
What I’m bothered about is her telling anyone I’m involved in the crime.
“Alpha Jovan.” She calls in tears as she wraps her fingers around the iron bars of her cell door.
Her hope-filled eyes are hovering all over my body, tears shimmering in them. If only she knows I have no intention of helping her get out of here.
“Skye! What the fuck happened?” I ask in a harsh whisper. She bursts into tears and I have to shush her to calm down so she doesn’t attract the other guards.
“I have no idea.” She cries. “I was resting in my room a whole ago when guards showed up and had me arrested for plotting a murder attempt on Alora. That’s when I understand that our plan failed woefully.”
“Fuck!” I curse under my breath. Anger claws its way to my throat, beckoning me to ram my fists into the wall in front of me, but I manage to hold myself back and calm my raging nerves.
“Alpha Jovan, please you have to find a way to get me out of here. I’m so scared of what will be done to me. Please use your power to save my friend and I.”
Power?
What fucking power is she talking about?
I have no power in this pack.
“I will do just that. I promise I’ll do my best to dissolve all the allegations.” I lie smoothly and I think she believes me because she’s vigorously nodding her head. “But first, you have to promise me that no matter what happens, you won’t tell them I was involved in the plan. Both Lloyd and I. They are going to interrogate you soon and I need you to say nothing about my involvement in any of this. If you do that, I promise to get you out of here in less than no time. I swear.” I try to sound as convincing as possible. Relief spreads throughout my entire being when she nods her head.
“I promise not to say anything to them during the investigation.”
“Good, because if you do, all our plans will be ruined and you will never have a chance to be with Alpha Jayce, but if Lloyd and I ride on with our plans, we are still going to succeed and you will get what you want. We all win.” She’s still nodding her head and I’m fighting my urge to smile.
Good girl.
“I’ll do as you have said.”
“Good. I’m going to go over now and tell Tania to do the same before proceeding to work on your release. All I need is a word with my step-brother and everything will be back to normal.”
“Thank you very much, Alpha Jovan”
“You are welcome. I have to go speak with Tania now before you two are summoned by Alpha Jayce. See you soon.”
“I’ll be waiting.”
I nod and walk ahead, trying to locate Tania’ own cell.
A word with my brother.
I scoff in derision.
That’s only going to happen in her dreams. Right now, I don’t even have the guts to go anywhere close to Jayce.
I’m not in the mood to get beat up.
************************************************
Reed’S POV.
“Why are you here?” Tania questions sternly the moment I step in from In Front of her cell door. She’s staring daggers at me and I’m sure she wishes she could strangle me with her eyes.
Since the day I saw her hanging around Alora, I knew there was something off about her.
She approached Alora. Literally begged to become her personal servant and she seemed too good to be true. Call me pessimistic, but I suspected everything that’s good. Especially when it looks or feels too good to be true.
“I told you I had my eyes on you, didn’t I?”
“Halle. She’s the one who ratted me out, isn’t she? You asked her to pretend to dislike Luna Alora so she could spy on me.”
“You are smarter than I gave you credit for. You have it all figured out.”
“Bastard!”
“You should have been more careful. It was very stupid of you to have trusted someone so blindly simply because she claimed to hate the person you hate. Villains are usually very smart, where the hell do you come from.”
“I don’t want to talk to you. Leave.” She clearly dismisses me. A smile tugs the corner of my lips, but I don’t let it out.
I have no reason to smile with this traitor.
“You will be punished severely. You will regret ever trying to hurt the Supreme Luna and in your next life, you’ll think twice before backstabbing someone who trusted you with her life. That’s all I came to say to you.” And with that, I turn around and head out of the dungeon.
Both her and Skye will be punished severely!
