Halle’S POV.
“It’s embarrassing to have you see me like this.” I lament as I look at Alora who hasn’t let my hand go ever since she came over here.
She keeps checking on me every now and then. She’s such a sweetheart.
“Why?”
“Because you are my student. I failed to protect myself back there. What am I going to teach you?”
“Are you seriously thinking about that?”
“I can’t help it.”
“You don’t have to.” My body tenses when she wipes a few strands of hair away from my face and tuck them behind my ears.
Her fingers feel so warm and gentle over my skin.
It’s been ages since anyone did something as warm as that to me and it just made me realise how much I miss it.
“There’s nothing for you to be ashamed of. Accidents do happen. And for the person who attacked you, he’s going to get caught and punished.” She firmly assures me as she keeps stroking my hair. “Do you know what shocks me the most about this accident?”
“What’s that?”
“The fact that you were at Reed’s. I heard he lets no one over at his place. No girl has ever been there. You are the first.” I am speechless. “Are you guys dating?”
“No!” I deny with all my might! I even chuckle and that puts pressure on my wound and makes it hurt. I stop and look at Alora. “No. We are not dating! Why would you even think that?”
“Because… because you were at his house, at night.” She bites back the laughter in her throat.
“I had something to say to him. I called his phone, but he wasn’t picking up. I got worried, that’s why I went over to see him. Nothing more, nothing less.” I lie smoothly.
There’s more.
We kissed.
She however, doesn’t look convinced by my words, but shrugs her shoulders and takes them.
“Alright then. If you say so.” She’s still stroking my hair.
I don’t want her to stop.
“So… Do you like him?” There’s a wide smile on her face. I know exactly who she’s talking about, but I feign innocence.
“Who’s that?”
“Oh come on, Reed of course.” My heart skips when he calls her name. I turn my head to the other side of the wall that’s void of her smiley face.
“I don’t know what you are talking about.” She giggles.
“So you like him.”
Now she isn’t asking. She’s saying it like she knows.
“I.. I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Sure. I’m sorry for prying. But if you ever need anyone to discuss issues like that with, I’m just a phone call away.” I can hear her smiling over my head.
Just then, the door opens. Reed and Alpha Jayce walk in with very serious looks on their faces.
What the hell did they talk about that put them in such a serious mood?
I sincerely hope it had nothing to do with the kiss Reed and I shared.
“Alora, let’s go home.” Alpha Jayce announces and to my greatest dismay, Alora stops stroking my hair and jumps down from the bed.
“I’ll come check on you tomorrow morning.”
I hope she doesn’t.
But I smile to be nice.
“Good night Halle.” That’s Alpha Jayce.
“Good night, Alpha.”
They both exchange a few words with Reed before leaving and now, it’s just the two of us in the ward.
I don’t know what to do with myself.
I’m still mad at him for how he treated me after the kiss, but then, he saved my life, so that rules out his jerky attitude.
But I’m still shy.
We kissed, for goodness’ sake and just a few minutes later, he became my knight in shining armour.
As if that was not enough, he called me “Baby”.
These three things have been engraved in my mind.
“You good?” I shake my head. He sits on the stool by the bedside and leans towards me.
He smells clean and fresh. Pristine as always.
“My stomach hurts.” He looks at my stomach and then at me again.
There’s something about his eyes. I can’t really put a finger on it, but there’s something about them.
He looks emotional, which is very unusual of him.
“I’m sorry for being a jerk to you.” He apologises and my head spins like a rollercoaster.
Did he just apologise to me?
Did he just say sorry?
“What I did back at my place was stupid and immature. I had no right to do that. To kiss you and then send you away like you didn’t matter.”
“But do I, tho?” I am curious to know. He instantly nods his head.
“You do. Very much.” Tears burn in my eyes.
I won’t let them fall.
It’s not like he’s asking me to be his girlfriend.
They can’t fall.
“Are you going to forgive me for what I did?”
“You have been forgiven.”
“Thank you.” He not only smiles, but he kisses my hair.
I freeze.
I feel like the heavens have split open and granted me a miracle. This is a dream come true!
I want to say something, but my voice has gone to where I do not know. There are like five hundred cotton balls stuffed in my throat. I am forced to stay mute against my will.
Several moments of silence go by. The only thing that can be heard is the sound of our heart beats echoing in the room. My brain is working like a computer.
Does this mean he likes me?
Does he have feelings for me?
I keep asking myself those questions.
It’s obvious he does, but it’s good to be sure, so I don’t get disappointed.
That, however, doesn’t mean I’m going to open my mouth and ask him.
“Aren’t you going to leave as well?” Is the question I pose. He creases his brows and gives me a critical look.
“Leave? Where to?”
“Uh… your home?”
“And leave you here alone?”
“I’m in a hospital ward. It’s safe here.”
“I’m not leaving. I’m going to stay the night here with you.”
His seriousness is sexy.
He’s even more charming when he’s showing care and concern. My heart is doing backflips in my chest and I’m chewing on my lips because I don’t want the smile on my face to show.
“Are you sure you want that?”
“Save your energy, Halle. You can’t make me leave this place.”
I mean…who am I to object to that?
Make yourself at home, daddy.
I close my eyes, smiling like an idiot and memories of the fight that happen at his place flashes in my eyes.
The way he sent the man flying in the air. The way he threw him across the lawn. The way he lifted him with a single hand like he weighed nothing.
Those were not moves made by an Omega during a fight.
Those were some dangerous Alpha moves.
I only expect to see such from Alpha Jayce, the Supreme Alpha.
“Can I tell you something?” I ask weakly.
My eyes are already drooling. The moment I close them, I’m going to sleep for at least two centuries.
“Go ahead.” He urges.
“You fight like an Alpha.”
