Alora’S POV.
I’ve never been so agitated in my life. News has never made me so scared before.
Alpha Jayce was ambushed in the woods. He was severely injured and right now he’s in the hospital, receiving treatment.
This morning, when Halle tooke home all of a sudden, I knew there was something wrong even though she refused to say anything to me. I figured there was a rogue attack and she was trying to get me to safety, but it never crossed my mind that my mate could have been the one in trouble.
He was almost killed.
Holly Moon goddess.
Tears are spilling down my cheeks as I think of the worse things that could’ve happened if Reed had not shown up quick enough to save him. He would’ve died and I would’ve lost my mate. I would be miserable by now.
“We are here.” Reed’s voice interrupts my thoughts and I turn to look at him, a single tear rolls down my left cheek. “I clearly remember saying he’s not dead.”
“I know that!” I furiously wipe the tears away and sniffle. “I know he’s not dead. I’m just upset that this happened to him in the first place.” He doesn’t say anything. He turns and opens his seat door and steps out and immediately, mine is opened by a guard and I step out without greeting or thanking him like I always do.
I’m too upset for manners.
More guards flock around Reed and I as he leads the way into the hospital lobby. As we pass by, people stop whatever it is they are doing and bow to us.
We get into the elevator which takes us to the twentieth floor and Reed proceeds to lead the way to Alpha Jayce’s private ward. The moment he opens the door and I spot my mate lying on the bed, I burst into tears and rush over to him.
“Jayce.” I call, crying. Reed helps him sit up right and I hug him as carefully as I can, making sure not to hurt him. I bawl my eyes out in his arms.
I almost lost him.
“Hey baby.” He calls, rubbing my back gently and I cry even more. My heart is clenching and unclenching at the same time. My entire body is shaking with relief. “Baby.” He calls yet again and I calmly withdraw from the hug and sniffle tears. I start scanning his body.
He has no bruises, meaning they’ve all healed already. No serious wounds, but his left hand is in a sling and his entire torso has been bandaged. He seems to be in so much pain.
“I’m guessing I can leave now.”
“No. Stay.” Alpha Kai denies, but Reed being Reed calmly shakes his head.
“Not happening. Happy reunion.” Then he turns on his heels and exits the ward.
I am not surprised at all.
I turn back to Alpha Jayce with a worried look still plastered on my face. Something in my heart twinges as I look at his bandaged torso once more.
“Are you in pain?” I ask with a raspy voice. He smiles and shakes his head.
“It’s nothing compared to the pain I felt in that battle field. I’m fine now.”
“But.. there are bandages all over your body and your hand is …”
“I know.” He calmly cuts me off and starts wiping my tears away. There’s a cheerful smile on his face that irks me because I don’t understand why he’s smiling when his body seems to be hurting all over. “But it doesn’t hurt too much. I promise.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes baby. I’m one hundred percent sure. And a kiss will make me feel a lot better!” He teases and I giggle shyly.
I lean forward and plant a quick dry kiss on his lips and he appreciates it with a big, fat smile.
“I feel ten times better right now.” I giggle and plant another kiss on his lips and his smile widens. “A hundred times better. Call the doctor to come take off these bandages and the sling because I’m fine now. I mean it.” The sound of his laugh seems to wash away my last bit of fear. Happiness wraps itself around my heart like a suffocating vine.
“I was so worried, Jayce. The twenty minute ride to the hospital was the worst ride of my life. I kept thinking about the horrible things that could’ve gone wrong.”
“But I’m fine now, so you have shove those malicious thoughts at the back of your mind and never welcome them again. What happened in the woods was definitely planned. Someone made a deal with the rogue King to send his soldiers to ambush me in the woods, but his plans failed and that’s because Reed showed up when I called him. He saved my life and that of Lloyd. My heart weeps for the fifteen soldiers I lost in that ambush.”
“You are going to find who did this, right?”
“Most definitely. Reed is on it and once I’m completely healed, I’ll join him.”
“Whoever did this deserves to rot in hell’s eternal fury. I hope they are caught so they can receive the punishment they deserve.” Another stubborn tear escapes my eye and I quickly brush it off and sniffle.
“I’m fine, love. I promise.” I nod my head knowingly.
He’s fine.
He looks fine.
He’ll recover in less than no time!
A knock sounds on the door and when I signal whoever it is to come in, a middle aged man who has a white jacket worn over his outfit walks into the room with a neutral look on his face. The moment he steps in, he stops by the door and bows.
“Good day to you Alpha, Luna.” He greets respectfully and both Jayce and I respond. Jayce tells him to raise his head and he does just that. He walks closer to the bed.
“How are you feeling this afternoon, Alpha?”
“Better. A lot better.”
“Good news.” He walks over to Jayce and checks the sling, the bandages around his torso and a few other things. When he’s done, he looks at us again. “You are healing faster than we anticipated which is a good thing. By evening, you’ll be completely fine and you can spend the night here if…”
“I won’t. I will go home. I can’t spend the night here.” Jayce cuts the doctor short and I cast him a furious glare. “What?” He asks in guilt. “I’m just saying I don’t want to spend the night here.”
“It’s okay if you don’t want to. You will be discharged by evening and while at home, if there’s any emergency, you can give any of us doctors a call and we’ll be ready to attend to you.”
“Hope you heard that.” Those words are directed to me. I calmly shake my head at him, but I smile at the doctor who looks confused.
“Thank you very much doctor.”
“You are welcome. That will be all for now, see you soon.” He exits the ward, leaving just Jayce and I.
“Are you sure you…”
“Yes, I am.”
I glare at him. Exhale heavily. Bite my lips as I try to refrain from hitting his body that’s in pain.
He’s annoying.
But I’m happy he’s doing alright.
“Lie down with me.”
“I’m scared I’m going to hurt you.”
“You won’t, come here.” He adjusts himself on the bed to make room for me and I gladly lie by his side and take him into my arms. I gently kiss his thick black hair and start stroking it gently.
He’s so big, his body can’t fit in my arms, but he stays there anyway, and makes sure to place his head on my breasts.
I let him do anything he wants because he’s unwell.
I can’t thank the Moon goddess enough for keeping him alive for me.
