Jayce’S POV.
“Come in.” I say out loud to whoever just knocked on my door and immediately, the doorknob turns and the door is pushed open by Reed. Relief spreads through me when I see him.
He must be here to tell me about the phone call that was made yesterday. I’m dying to know what he found out. Whoever did that will be severely punished.
“Alpha Jayce.” He calls calmly as he approaches my work table. I look up at him with hope filled eyes. As usual, he has a blank countenance which makes it impossible for me to tell if he has come with good news for me. I only have to wait for him to tell me what he has to say.
“Any news about the phone?”
“Yeah.” Sighs heavily. “But it’s not good news.” I crease my brows.
“What do you mean?”
“Whoever made the phone call did so with a burner phone, so it was impossible for us to trace the caller.” I heave out a heavy sigh of exasperation as I massage my forehead with fingers.
This is not good.
This is not good at all.
“That means whoever did it is still out there, roaming about freely.”
“Sadly, he or she is, but this is not the end. I won’t stop until I catch the culprit. I promise.” I look up at him and nod my head and deep in my heart, I trust his words because Reed never gives his word in vain.
If he says he’ll provide the culprit, then he’ll do just that.
I clear my throat abd rub my palms together. Thoughts are jumbled up in my mind.
“Do you suspect anyone?” I ask out of nowhere. His jaws twitch.
“Well, Jovan and his mother hate Alora and I won’t be surprised if they are behind what happened, but without concrete evidence, we can’t levy any allegations against them.”
“Yeah. That’s true. I strongly believe they have something to do with this.”
“They won’t always do a perfect job. One day, soon, they’ll make a mistake. They’ll leave a trail that will lead us to them and we’ll catch them red-handed and when that happens, they’ll pay. For now, you have to make sure Alora stays safe. I know she’s stubborn, but you are still her Alpha, make sure she has guards with her at all times. You might not be able to make it on time when next she’s in a crisis. That’s when her guards will come in.”
“You are right, Reed. I will have a talk with her tonight and make sure she understands the importance of always having her guards around her.”
“Good. That will be all for now. I’ll let you know if I make any new discoveries. I’ll take my leave now.” Something pops in my mind.
“Reed.” I call, he stops and looks at me.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“What’s going on between you and Lloyd? When I ask him about the issue, he turns me around. When I ask you, you dismiss it. There’s tension between you two. I want to know what’s going on.” He smiles faintly.
It’s almost unnoticeable, but I know it’s there.
“What’s going on between Lloyd and I is nothing for you to be concerned about.”
“I highly doubt that.” I tell him as-a-matter-of-factly as I rise to my feet. I walk away from my office table and towards him. “If there’s a problem between you two, then I, as your Alpha and Superior deserve to know so I can make peace between the two of you again. I don’t like the negative energy I feel when the two of you are in the same room.”
“Alpha Jayce, with all due respect, peace can never reign between Lloyd and I. Henceforth, I’ll make sure to avoid being in the same room with him as much as I can so the negative energy won’t trouble you.” My eyes widened in shock. He nods his head and gives me a gentle pat on my shoulder. “Have a nice day.” And then he walks out, leaving me utterly and completely dumbfounded!
And now, not only do I have to think about how I’m going to convince Alora to walk around with guards, I have to ponder upon the possible reasons why my Beta and Omega are in a silent war with each other.
I’m losing my brain cells.
HOURS LATER.
“Jayce.” Alora calls my name the moment I open our bedroom door. She’s lying on the bed, her entire body wrapped with a comforter and there’s a bowl of something like pop-corn on her torso.
“Hey baby.” I call, smiling at her current posture. It’s hilarious.
“Welcome home.” She welcomes me with a cheerful smile and I plant a passionate kiss on her lips. She takes off the bowl from her torso and sits upright.
Her auburn hair is all over the place and her blue eyes are glowing.
God, she’s gorgeous!
“How was your day at the training centre?” I ask calmly.
“The same as always. Tedious. Tania is nice to me, Halle is still cold and distant and grumpy, but she’s okay. And now, I don’t feel a lot of pain after practice anymore.”
“That’s because your body is gradually adapting to your routine. Congratulations.” She giggles and hides her face with her hands.
“There’s nothing to congratulate me about, it’s just sports.”
“Do you know how many girls out there hate sports? My dad told me my mum didn’t attend any physical exercise. The elders ranted about her not being strong enough to defend herself, but she didn’t care. After all, She had my father to always show up and rescue her whenever she was in danger.”
“He was her knight in shining armour.” She says giggling and I join her. Her eyes light up like a bulb when she laughs and I enjoy watching her entire body shake. She’s such a pure soul.
I don’t deserve her.
“Your mum was a great Supreme Luna. Everyone knew about her greatness, her aura, her power, her dominance. She was every woman’s role model.”
“You are going to be that and even more. Just watch and see.” She blushes so hard, her cheeks turn beetroot.
I love making her blush.
“Stop it!” Now she’s shy. “How was your day at work? Did Reed tell you anything about the caller?” I let out a disappointed sigh.
“Yes, he did. But it wasn’t good news. The call was made from a burner phone so nothing could be tracked. So whoever tried to kill is still out there, roaming the streets and that leads me to the conversation I wanted us to have this evening.”
“What conversation?” She has a serious look on. Her brows are furrowed. I sit by her side on the bed, staring deep into her expecting eyes. I take her hands into mine and plant soft, feathery kisses on them before looking at her face more.
“You need to always walk around with your body guards. Baby, I know it’s something you don’t like. It freaks you out, but you need them. We’ll start with two only. Only two are allowed to walk by your side, while the rest, stay at a considerable distance, that way you won’t freak out.” I explain as carefully as I can, praying in my heart that she doesn’t freak out or say no.
“Is this because of what happened?”
“Yes. I don’t know what their next move will be. I don’t know how they plan to attack you next, that’s why I’m taking all these precautions. Please, I need you to understand me. I can’t afford to let anything happen to you, Alora. You are my everything.” My heart melts when she calmly nods her head.
“I understand. I completely understand. Henceforth, I will walk around with guards so I won’t get into danger.” She smiles and I can’t believe what my ears are hearing.
She accepted without putting up a fight.
That’s amazing.
I pull her into my arms, engulfing her in a big bear hug as I kiss her hair over and over again.
“Thank you baby. Thank you very much.” I Reed in her sweet smell and smile heartily.
I swear I’m going to eat her up one day.
She’s too cute and good to be true.
