Reed’S POV.
Whoever orchestrated this whole plan did so perfectly. He or she left no trace behind. I spent the entire day following up every tech team I hired to track the caller ID or IP address of the person who made that call, but they got nothing. They all kept giving me one response.
A burner phone was used to make the call so it’s impossible for us to track it down.
I’ve arrived at a dead end.
Alpha Jayce will be so disappointed when he finds out that I couldn’t find out who tried to kill Luna Alora.
Not all hope is lost though. The person might have succeeded in covering his tracks, but he or she has made me understand that Luna’s life is in danger and we have to start paying close attention to those who wish she never even existed. I have three people on my mind right now.
“Omega Reed.” Halle’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts. I look up and see her approaching me with her usual neutral look. “What are you doing here?”
I cross hold my hands behind my back and make sure to keep a bank countenance since she has made it clear it’s a competition.
“I wanted to see you.”
“Why?”
“To let you know that you are no longer on my list of suspects concerning this issue. You are innocent.” She smiles.
Chuckles.
Ahah!
I don’t know why, but I’m proud of myself for having succeeded in making her smile.
There’s something about this girl I’m yet to figure out. I’m curious about her. I really didn’t have to come here to tell her this. I would have sent someone or at most, told her over the phone, but I wanted to come here and tell her in person.
I was actually excited at this opportunity to get to see and talk to her again.
She is making me do things I have never done before.
“That sounds refreshing.” I simply nod my head. “So…” she folds her hands over her breasts and takes a killer pose. My eyes won’t stop hovering all over her body.
She’s really slender and tall and looks too soft for a remarkable personal trainer. “What proved my innocence, if I may?”
“Your cellphone.” I take it out from my pocket and hand it over to her. “I tried to track down the call, but it was impossible because a burner phone was used to make the call.”
“Smart move made by that person!”
“Yeah, you are right.”
“So, that means there’s no way to find the caller, aye?”
“No. There isn’t.”
“That’s annoying. I really hoped whoever did that would be caught so I could congratulate him or her for successfully tricking me. Maybe, give a high five. It has never happened, you know.” She says carelessly and I’m looking at her in bewilderment.
My mouth is hanging on my kneecap.
Now I understand why people feel creeped out when they converse with me. This girl standing before me says things similar to what I would say if I were in her shoes.
She’s amazing.
I even chuckle.
“What’s funny?”
The fact that we have similar personalities.
I want to say that to her, but that’ll lead to a catastrophe so I simply shake my head.
“Nothing. I’m just amazed by your choice of words. You say the weirdest things.”
“So I’ve been told.” There’s a proud look on her face.
Nice one Halle. Nice one.
I clear my throat.
“We can’t find the caller, doesn’t mean we can’t try to figure out who he or she is.” I change the topic. She gives me a queer look. I nod my head.
“Yeah. I know three people in this castle who hate Alora and would do everything in their power to get rid of her.”
“And you think one of these three people is responsible for that phone call.”
“I know one of them is responsible for that phone call.”
“Okay. Cool.”
“Yeah. And there’s a high chance that these people are working with other people who are closer to Alora than we think.” She creases her brows as she tries to make sense out of what I just said. “I don’t know if I should trust you. I don’t know who’s side you are on, but I’m going to assume you are on Luna Alora’s side even though you hate her.”
“I don’t hate her!”
“Then help me find the person who’s trying to kill her.”
Pin-dropping silence fills the entire arena.
Halle looks away from me and exhales hard before looking at me again.
“That would mean getting into a war I have no idea how bloody it will get.”
“Very bloody. Gory! Apocalyptic! I can assure you that. Anyone who’s not careful or vigilant enough will be wiped off, but it’s a war worth fighting because if the wrong person ascends that throne of Supremacy, no one will be able to stop the bloodshed that will follow his reign. So it’s either we risk our lives now and try to stop it from happening, or we step back, relax, watch things unfold and die later. I’ve already made my choice and that choice doesn’t involve dying anytime. So you make yours.”
“You make a good speech. You should be the Commander of the army.”
“I only make speeches to people who have got potential. So you should be proud of yourself.”
“What do you need me to do?”
“I like your choice.” She smirks. “Tania.”
“What about Tania?”
“Keep a close eye on her. I don’t trust her.” Her mouth hangs open in shock.
“No! Uh uh… no.” She starts shaking her head in denial.
“Yes!” I insist, but she keeps shaking her head.
“That girl will lie down for Luna Alora to walk over her. She buys her case every single time!”
“You don’t know what’s in her heart, Halle. You can’t judge a book by its cover. I’m sure you’ve heard of that proverb.” She groans, still not satisfied with the fact that I distrust Tania. “You have to keep a close eye on her and if possible, try to corner her and …”
“I don’t corner people!” She makes a disgusted face.
“You will! And Tania will be the first. You’ll be proud of yourself by the time you succeed.”
“I already hate working with you!” She laments in frustration.
“Then that’s perfect. I love toxic work atmospheres. Duty starts tomorrow.” I turn around and exit the arena, leaving her mumbling numerous curses under her breath.
“Cute!” I whisper and chuckle as I walk over to my car.
She’s unique and I like her.
I want to know more about her.
