CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE.
Jayce’S POV.
I carried Alora straight to the hospital where an emergency check up was carried out and luckily everything is fine with her. After the doctors transfer her into a private ward so she could get proper rest, I leave the hospital, back to my office.
I need to talk with both Tania and Halle individually to know what happened.
I need them to properly explain to me how my mate almost drowned in a pool.
“Good day Alpha Jayce.” Tania greets as she walks over to my table.
“There’s nothing good about the day, Tania.”
“I’m sorry Alpha.” She bows her head and plays with her fingers.
“Lift your head up.” I calmly instruct and she obeys, but her eyes do not meet my gaze.
They can’t.
She’s looking everywhere else but my face and I take out time to study her. Back at the pool, when Reign was drowning, she was crying very seriously and I’m tempted to dismiss her because I think she has nothing to do with this, but you never know.
I’m not going to leave any stone unturned.
“Tell me what happened.” I quietly instruct her, my eyes never leaving her face. She’s seriously struggling to wipe the tears spilling from her eyes, but they don’t seem to stop. She sniffles and intertwines her fingers. I’m patiently waiting for her to talk.
“When we finished changing into our sports attire, I asked her to go ahead into the pool to meet Halle while I used the bathroom and that’s how we separated, but I later joined her again in the pool and that’s when Halle left.”
“Did Halle tell you the reason why she was leaving?” She calmly shakes her head in denial.
“No, she didn’t. Luna Alora tried to ask her though, but Halle rudely dismissed her question by telling her it was none of her business.”
“Are you sure Halle said that to Luna Alora?”
“I swear on my life she did and that’s not the first time. She’s always saying very mean things to Luna Alora during training.” The tears in her eyes have dried up and she no longer looks afraid to be in my presence. Her confidence has doubled and I love that.
I can’t believe everything I told Halle the other day fell on deaf ears. Right now, in my heart, she’s the primary suspect.
“Tania.”
“Alpha Jayce.” She finally looks at me.
“I’ll summon you again if anything else comes up. For now, you are free to leave.”
“Thank you very much Alpha. Have a great day.” She wishes and exits my office.
I should have a great day?
Is she kidding me?
I will only have a great day if the person responsible for harming my mate gets caught.
“Send in Halle.” I instruct the guard at the door through mindlink and almost immediately, the opens up and Halle walks in with her usual unbothered look.
Her Luna almost died and she doesn’t even look the least remorseful about that fact.
I highly suspect that she has something to do with what just happened.
“Good day Alpha Jayce.” And here comes another very annoying greeting.
There’s nothing good about this day.
“It seems the conversation we had the other day was a complete waste of time and energy.” Confusion spreads on her face. A ridge forms between her brows as she gives me a confused look.
“I… I don’t think I understand what you mean by that.”
“You’ve still been acting mean towards Luna Alora and this morning, before the incident, when she tried to inquire where you were off to and you asked her to mind her business. Am I correct?” Her throat rises and falls as she swallows hard. Guilt flashes in her eyes.
“Yes, you are.” Her voice is barely audible. I let out a heavy sigh and lean on my chair. My eyes are trained on her face.
I can’t seem to put my hands on the real reason why Halle hates Alora. It can’t be because she doesn’t want to be Alora’s personal trainer. There has to be another reason. A deeper reason.
“Tell me what happened at the arena before this incident?”
“I got a call from a strange person who told me Omega Reed wanted to see me in his office in five minutes. I left for his office and that’s when he told me it was a trap.”
“So, you don’t know who called.”
“No Alpha. I don’t.” Her blank face is back on. She looks very confident. she’s not mixing her words and they sound like they are coming from a clean place.
I close my eyes and gently massage my temples. This whole thing is stressing me out and I’m getting angrier as the minutes go by.
“And your phone, where is it?” I ask, snapping my eyes open.
“Omega Reed took it a few hours ago . He said he’d try to track down the number or the phone used to make the call.”
Reed is always ten steps ahead.
I find myself nodding and smiling in awe. He’s so smart.
“Halle. That will be all for now. We’ll talk more about your attitude towards my mate some other time. You can leave.”
“Thank you, Alpha.” And with that, she exits my office.
After that brief talk with her, I’m not sure if she’s still on my list of suspects.
I pick up my phone to call Reed, but I decide against it. He must be busy right now with tracking that cell phone. He’ll call me when he finds something, so I should wait for his call.
I drop my phone on the table and groan in frustration.
Why do I have so many enemies?

Reed’S POV.
“You were with Luna Alora when she fell into the pool, weren’t you?” I ask the girl standing before me. I know her name is Tania and she works as Luna Alora’s personal servant.
“Yes, Omega. I was there with her.”
“I watched the CCTV camera footage of the incident. You two were far apart when she fell into the pool. You panicked and rushed over, but you couldn’t get in to save her because I assume you can’t swim.”
“I can’t swim.”
“Alright. So, what did you do when she fell in the pool?”
“I ran out to call for help?”
“Did you?” I ask with raised brows and she confidently nods her head.
“Yes, I did.” My eyes stay glued to her face as I carefully study her. She’s sweating. Her hands keep clenching and unclenching by her side. Her eyes have not met mine since we started talking.
Those are signs of nervousness.
Why is she nervous?
I replay the video before me one more time and watch it in silence.
She claimed to have gone to get help, but the video says otherwise. When she ran out of the pool arena, she didn’t go straight outside where there were multitudes of guards on standby, she suddenly disappeared.
I don’t know where she went to, but I know she didn’t go to get help. She only reappeared when Alpha Jayce showed up.
I drag my eyes from the screen to her face, making sure to keep a blank countenance.
“That’s all I wanted to know. You may leave.”
“Thank you Omega Reed.” She exits my office and I close my laptop.
I don’t trust that girl.
I have to keep a close eye on her.
