Jovan’S POV.
“Are you sure you want to go out there right now?” Mum asks for the umpteenth time that morning and I pause in my tracks and turn to look at her with the most frustrated look on my face.
“Yes, mother. I’m sure I want to go out there. The bruises on my face have healed and I’m no longer limping. It’s not like Jayce will be out there waiting for me so he can have me trashed again. He has way better things to do with his time.” She pouts her lips. She looks very worried about me and it makes my heart hurt. “Mum.” I call calmly as I walk over to her. “I’m just going out to take a walk, nothing much. I promise I’ll be fine.”
“I’m just scared for you. Jayce….”
“There’s nothing for you to be scared about.” I cut her off, giving her a reassuring smile. “I’ll be fine.” She nods, but there’s a dissatisfied look on her face. I place a peck on her cheek and walk away. Her heated glare follows me as I walk out the door.
I don’t know for how long she wants me to stay locked up in my Chambers all in the name of avoiding Jayce for the meantime.
There’s absolutely no need for me to hide away from Jayce.
Yes, he beat me up the other day, but that’s the most he can do. He can’t kill me. That’s a crime and the Moon goddess would definitely strike him dead if he were to do that.
As I walk around the castle premises, every guard or servant who passes by stops and bows don’t to me and it makes my ego swell.
Being a member of the Royal household is so amazing. I have people who are ready to serve me anything, anytime I want. They all bow to me when I walk by and no one dares to make eye contact with me.
The Respect I get from the pack subjects is exhilarating and that’s why I want more. That’s why I want to be in Jayces’s position and I’m going to get there. It’s just a matter of time.
I stop walking when I see a girl rushing out of Jayce’s office building and she seems to be crying. I look at her carefully and immediately recognize her.
That’s Skye. The girl Jayce used to sleep with before he found his mate. If Skye is crying, it means she had an altercation with my brother. He probably told her he’ll no longer be needing her services because he’s found his mate and she’s heart broken.
Poor thing.
As I watch her disappear into a nearby corner, a brilliant idea strikes my mind and I smile.
“Dyland.” I call through mind link.
Dyland is one of my personal guards. He and three other guys guard me whenever I have to step out of the castle.
“Yes, Alpha Jovan.”
“You know Skye, my brother’s girlfriend?”
“I know her.”
“Bring her to my office, right now.”
“I’ll do just that.” I block the mind link and change my course of movement.
By the time I’m done talking with Skye, I’ll have one more person on my team to take down Alpha Jayce.
Fifteen minutes later, I’m in my office with Skye. I’m seated on the chair behind my office table, looking at Skye who is silently hiccuping from crying too much. She has her head bowed down.
“He broke your heart, didn’t he?” I finally break the silence. Skye raises her head.
“Huh?” There’s confusion swimming in her eyes. Her face is completely drenched with tears and red like beetroot. She’s in pain.
She’s vulnerable and this is the perfect time to take advantage of her and get her on my team.
“He has broken up with you because he’s found his mate, hasn’t he?” She sniffles tears and struggles to wipe her eyes with the back of her hands.
“How…” she croaks. “How did you know that?”
“I just figured it out. I mean, it was quite easy. You used to be my brother’s girlfriend, but now he has found his mate and knowing the kind of person he is, a one woman man, he has broken up with you so he can stay loyal to his mate. That must have been a hard blow to take.”
“You have no idea.” Her voice is raspy and her tears start forming in her eyes all over again.
“You must be in so much pain.” She bursts into tears.
She cries so hard that I’m tempted to feel sorry for her. She’s soaking in a torrential downpour of tears. She’s wheezing and coughing and almost breathless. I rise to my feet and eat up the distance between us.
“I’m… I’m sorry for crying here. It’s just…”
“It’s okay. I understand. Cry it all out. Don’t stop.” I urge her, but she shakes her head and cleans her tears away, trying to calm her raging breath.
“No. There’s no need for that. Crying won’t make him change his mind. I shouldn’t waste my tears on him.” I look at her, completely amused by her ability to stay positive after all that she’s going through.
I’ve never been in love before.
I’ve never been dumped before, but from other people’s experiences, I can tell that it’s a painful ordeal to be dumped by someone you love. Especially when that person is dumping you to be with another person.
I never want to go through shit like that, that’s shy I stick to one night stands. I’m only going to love one woman and that’s going to be my mate and no one else.
“That’s a smart choice to make.”
“Why did you summon me here, if I may?” She looks at me.
She’s beautiful.
Very beautiful.
Now I see why my brother chose her as his sex partner.
I clear my throat and go over to my glass window.
“Are you calm enough to have this conversation?”
“Yes. Yes I am.” I turn to face her once more.
“Do you love my brother or his power and wealth?”
“I love Alpha Jayce for who he is, not because of his position or wealth.”
“So, you mean to tell me that even if he’s stripped of his title as Supreme Alpha, you’ll still love him? You’ll still want to be with him?” She aggressively nods her head and I smile. “What if I told you I could help you get him back, that is, if you don’t mind him not being Supreme Alpha.”
“I… I don’t think I understand you.” I shove both hands in my trouser pockets and stare at her straight in the eyes.
“I’m planning on making my brother step down as Alpha of this Pack and Supreme Alpha of the entire werewolf world. If you assist me in doing that, I will make sure he becomes your man once all of this is over.” She’s quiet for a very long time and I start to get scared, thinking she will scream and run out of my office, but she doesn’t do that.
A ridge forms between her brows as she gives me a critical look.
“And how do you plan on making him mine?”
“You’ll see. All you have to do is tell me you are in and you’ll see how things will turn out. You know fighting this battle with Alora on your own will be a lost cause. She’s his mate and it’s almost impossible for him to leave her for you, but if we eliminate her and make him abdicate the throne, everything will go smoothly for you and I.” I watch her swallow dryly.
She’s not sure if she wants to get into this.
It’s a very risky thing to do. If we fail, Alpha Jayce will have us all banished from this pack or worse still executed, but I’m ready to take that risk and so should she.
“Well.” She sighs.
She no longer looks unsure.
My mother always told me a desperate woman will take the most dangerous risks to get what she wants and I feel like those words of hers are about to be confirmed right now.
“You seem quite confident in this plan of yours and I really want to take down that bitch called Alora, so I’m in.” I break into a wide smile.
Mum was right after all.
“You’ve made the perfect decision. Just watch and see how things unravel in your favour.” She’s smiling so hard, I’m sure her cheeks are hurting.
What she doesn’t know is that, I don’t only plan on making my brother step down from his Supreme Alpha throne. I plan to kill him so he won’t be a threat to me in the future.
So, that means there will be no Alpha Jayce for Skye, but she doesn’t know this and she will never know.
A little lie will not kill her.
