Reed’S POV.
I dread early morning meetings.
I have tried to propose time again to Alpha Jayce that we have these meetings online in the comfort of our own offices, but he keeps shunning my idea and insisting on us meeting in his office every morning for meetings I do not see the need for. Sometimes, we meet and there’s nothing to be said and he tries to lure Lloyd and I into having breakfast with him. He keeps blabbering about some bond we have to maintain as the Alpha, Beta and Omega of the pack in order for us to lead well.
He’s an old soul.
As I cross over to the building where Alpha Jayce’s office is located, I spot someone walking towards me from afar. As we bother draw closer to each other, his image becomes clearer.
Big head, tiny legs, a little too tall for his body mass… that’s definitely Jovan and he seems to be limping, but when he spots me, he pretends not to be. I chuckle lightly and stop walking. My eyes are trained on his face as he draws nearer to me. He also has a few band-aids on his face. He must have gotten into a messy fight.
“Jovan.” I call and he stops in his tracks. We are both standing just a few metres away from each other. He’s frowning at me like I’m the one who gave him all those injuries.
I wish I was.
I wouldn’t have been generous enough to leave him with both of his eyes.
“What do you want?”
“Your face is a real work of art.” The expression on my face stays neutral. I want to burst into laughter right now. I want to roll on the floor and laugh so loudly that it’ll cause others to gather around to see what’s going on, but I manage to hold my self back.
The poor guy is already in a lot of physical pain, laughing at him and gathering a crowd will only make things worse for him.
“Do you have anything sensible to say to me?” He asks in a bored tone. I stretch my thumb before him and scoff.
“Thumbs up to whoever did this to you. You deserve it.” He sighs and walks past me, making sure to hit his shoulders against mine. I chuckle and shake my head.
“How childish.” I’m even tempted to smile, but the moment my eyes fall on the file in my hand, I sigh and frown.
Alpha Jayce and his useless morning meetings.
When I arrive at the office, I meet him and Lloyd waiting for me, as usual.
“When I came in yesterday and met you, I thought there was finally going to be some change around here.” Says Alpha Jayce as he swirls on his office chair. “But it seems I was wrong.”
“It happened just once and you started having absurd fantasies. Don’t you think it’s dangerous for an Alpha of your calibre to be that gullible.” A ridge forms between his brows. I wink at him and he chuckles. Lloyd is looking at me like he wants to eat me alive, but I’m doing a great job ignoring him.
He’s trying to act like he cares for and respects Alpha Jayce with all his heart, but we both know that’s not the case.
I don’t condone hypocrisy.
I take a seat across from Alpha Jayce and stare at him.
“Day ten thousand and sixty-six of meaningless morning meetings in your boring office.”
“Call it whatever you want, you are still going to attend.”
“You are lucky I do not have the audacity to disrespect you.” Lloyd scoffs.
“As if.” He murmurs and I still ignore him. Alpha Jayce is looking at us closely. I’m sure he can sense the tension between us, but he’s not going to get involved until things get out of hand.
“Well.” He leans on his chair and rubs his hands together. “It’s a new week and I’m sure we all are ready to occupy ourselves with pack duties. There’s nothing pressing to be discussed today. I summoned you guys here to see your faces before I start my day. There are specific tasks I have for you both this week, they have already been emailed to you. So, gentlemen, you are dismissed and have a nice day.”
I can bet my life he did this just to annoy me.
I cast him a deadly glare and he playfully winks at me. I roll my eyes hard, but I don’t rise from my seat. Lloyd on the other hand rises, bows to the Alpha and exits the office without uttering a single word.
“He must be upset.” Alpha Jayce remarks when the door closes behind Lloyd.
“Who wouldn’t be?”
“Why are you still here? You are always the first to leave. This is another surprise.”
“Don’t get used to it. The next thing you’ll do is cook up fantasies in your head about god-knows-what.”
“Just tell me why you are here and leave already. Your presence is suffocating me.” He pretends to fan his face.
If you ask me how Alpha Jayce and I got to this level, I will have no answer to give you. A few weeks ago, we were practically strangers even though we’ve been working together as Alpha and Omega for seven years now. It all started on the night I went to get milk from his kitchen. Since then, we’ve only grown closer and I don’t hate it.
I enjoy seeing this playful side of him and I like that I can be a bit relaxed in his presence.
“I met Jovan on my way here. He has several bandaids on his face and probably a sprained ankle because he was limping. He must have messed with the wrong person this time around.”
“That person would be me.” He says coolly. He places both hands on his office table and intertwines them. I look closely at the table and notice that it’s a new one. “It happened right here, in his office. I beat him to pulp.”
“You finally threw a punch at that sucker?” I chuckle in excitement.
I’m completely flabbergasted by what I’m hearing.
Alpha Jayce never fought back at his brother and that always nerved me. Hearing that he almost had Jovan handicapped yesterday makes me want to sing.
“Last night was the second time, but yeah, I threw more punches.” I’m smiling like an idiot as I look at him.
“You have no idea how happy I am that you finally decided to beat up that stupid brother of yours. You taught him a lesson which was long overdue. Even though I would have loved to be the one to redesign his face.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll get your turn soon.”
“Oh… I can’t wait. I’m trembling with excitement for that day to come.” He chuckles and shakes his head. He doesn’t really show it physically, but the look in his eyes tells me that he’s proud of what he did to Jovan last night.
He’s happy that he finally got to put his brother in his place and show him who’s boss in this castle.
“Anyway, I thought you said our main focus will be on the bigger picture.”
“I did, but I just realised something. I can handle both pictures at once.” This man will never cease to amuse me. I calmly nod my head and rise to my feet.
“Unlike other days, today I’m leaving this office with zero anger in my heart because of what you just told me. You keep this up and I’m going to fall in love with you.”
“Get. Out!” Alpha Jayce orders and I chuckle hard.
“And when that happens, I’ll do all I can to make you mine. Even Alora won’t stand a chance.” He shoots me with a book and I stumble away from his table, laughing and surprising myself.
I had no idea I had in me to be this cheerful.
I’m even cracking jokes now.
Wow.
Just wow!
