Jayce’S POV
By the time we are done touring almost every recreational centre in the pack, Alora has no energy left, but the look in her tells me she wants more and it makes my heart ache.
My heart aches because this is her first time doing something as cool as this. She has been through so much. She missed so much while growing up.
As we spent time together today, she told me all about her heartbreaking experience at the house she used to serve in. It took me all my self control to not go over to the Blue Pearl and have them all punished. Alpha Myles might think I’ve forgotten about him, but he’s wrong. I haven’t. I haven’t gotten the warning I gave him. I still have him in my mind everyday. Tragedy will befall him sooner or later and he will come to me, begging on his knees. When that time comes, I’ll let Alora take her revenge on him. On all of them.
“Alpha, we have arrived.” Lloyd’s voice jabs me out of thoughts. I look by my side and notice that my seat door has already been opened. I didn’t even hear the car come to a halt, not to talk of when he opened my seat door. I sigh and look to my left. Alora is fast asleep. I don’t have the heart to wake her up.
“Are you going to wake her up?” Lloyd asks and I calmly shake my head. I step out of the car and carry her bridal style in my arms. She still doesn’t wake up as I carry her into the house. She must be really exhausted.
“Do you need anything else?” I stop in my tracks and turn around to face him.
“Summon Jovan in my office. I’ll join him soon.”
“Yes, Alpha.” He bows and I turn around and walk on. Since the snake incident at the banquet hall, I haven’t confronted him even though I know he sent the snakes. I thought I could let it slide, but after thinking hard about it, I don’t think I can.
Apart from the fact he’ll think I’m too scared to confront him, I don’t want him to think I don’t know about his plans for both Alora and me. Since he wants a battle, I’m going to draw the line before him tonight. That way, I can go about doing the things I have always wanted to do to him without feeling guilty.
In my bedroom, I calmly place Alora on the bed and she stirs in her sleep. She looks so precious. So delicate. So innocent. I’ll kill anyone who hurts her. I’ll protect her with my life.
I pull the sheets over her body and place a gentle kiss on her forehead. I want to stay and watch her sleep, but I have to go and set some records straight with Jovan first.
“Please stay.” I feel a tug on my wrist as I try to back away from Alora. Her eyelids flutter for a while before snapping open. “Don’t leave me.” Her voice is soft. So warm, so calm, it sends chills down my spine. I want to go down on my knees and tell her I won’t go, because that’s the truth, but I have to go.
“Baby.” I call with a raspy voice. “I’ll be right back. I promise.”
“Where are you going?”
“To have a little chit-chat with someone.”
Now, that’s a lie. What I’m about to have with Jovan is not a chit-chat. Let’s hope I don’t rip his head from his body when I set eyes on him.
“Can’t it wait till tomorrow?” If I wait till tomorrow to have this conversation with Jovan, my anger will further subside and I won’t be as intimidating as I want to be.
“It can’t. I promise I won’t take long.”
“Promise?” She pouts.
I could even swear.
“I promise.” I kiss her again and look into her eyes as if waiting for her to grant me permission to leave.
“I’ll be waiting then.”
“Thank you.” I rise to my feet and exit the bedroom. The moment I close the door behind me, Jovan’s face flashes in my mind and animosity fills my heart.
Since we were kids, Jovan always despised me. He has done a lot of terrible things to me that I cannot even start to recount. Whenever we played together, I always ended up with serious injuries like, a bleeding head, serious bruises, a sprained ankle, burns.
Speaking of burns. Jovan once burned me on my back with a hot electric iron. It took years for that scar to disappear.
He made it his special goal to kill every pet I ever had. From burying my puppy alive, to killing my goldfish and poisoning my cat. The last thing Jovan wants is anything good happening to me.
When the elders announced my possible dethronement because I had not found my mate, he was over the Moon, but now that it seems that’s not going to happen, his animosity towards me has heightened and he’ll do everything in his power to bring me down once and for all.
The guard in front of my office opens the door for me and I step in. Anger brews in veins when I spot Jovan comfortably seated on my office chair. The last thing he has for me is respect.
When our father was alive, he always pleaded with me to forgive Jovan whenever he did something terrible to me. He told me I’d be a leader one day and that people would do worse things to me and paying them back in their own coins wouldn’t be the smartest move to make. He said I had to forgive. I had to let go. I had to think of a smarter way to deal with the people who hurt me, because I’d be a leader. Because that’s what leaders do and because of that, I never had the courage to stand up to Jovan. That’s why he grew more confident and right now, he thinks I’m weak.
He thinks I do not have the audacity to stand up for myself against him because no matter how much he backed me in a corner, I never threw a punch.
Well, it’s a good thing our father isn’t here to reprimand me for what I’m about to do.
Jovan has crossed the line and I have to teach him a lesson.
I stop in my tracks and clench my fists by my side, casting him a deadly glare. The fool chuckles and rises to his feet, but I don’t let him take a stand. I summon all my Alpha powers and at the speed of light, I run over to him and connect my right fist with his left jaw. He flies to the other end of the room and his body collides with the wall, hard. I don’t let him drop to the floor. In that same second, I teleport to the wall and grab him mid air by the collar of his shirt with a single hand. He stays in the air in my hold and I’m looking deep into his eyes that are filled with horror. He’s trying to scream, but his voice seems to be stuck in his throat.
I’m panting. My entire body is shaking with rage.
Everything he ever did to me is playing in my head like a CD and when it gets to the snakes… the snakes. I throw him yet again across the room, he crashes into my office table and everything goes down with him. I let out a heavy sigh before turning to look at him. My eyes are blazing red and he’s crawling backwards on his butt, his right arm stretched forward, signalling me to stop. He’s still speechless. Every hole on his face is leaking with blood. He’s struggling to breathe and cough at the same time.
Our father’s bones must be turning in his grave by now.
I don’t care.
“You must be shocked.” I ask, taking a stand before him. He’s looking at me like I grew two heads. “Luckily father isn’t here to castigate me.” I chuckle and stoop down in front of him.
If looks could kill, I’d be dead, buried and forgotten by now.
“How dare you!” He hisses. His voice is a ragged mess. I chuckle. He’s still struggling to breathe. His chest is rising and falling as he takes in short deep breaths.
I can’t explain how this state of his makes me feel. It’s exhilarating. I should do this often.
“I am your Supreme Alpha… oh, you don’t realise that because you are in constant denial of that fact.” My body shakes with soft laughter. “You must be surprised by my sudden outburst.”
“You’ve lost your mind!” He curses. Droplets of blood splatters on my face as he speaks and I’m disgusted, but that’s not important.
“Maybe I have. All your evil deeds have finally driven me to the point of insanity. From killing my pets to deliberately hurting me, sabotaging my plans and now, hurting my mate. You dare try to hurt Alora?” He chuckles.
“So this is about that low life.” He breaks into a loud hysterical laughter. “Father was right when he said a woman can make a man do wonders. You’ve never had the audacity to throw me a punch until that girl showed up. She’s something else.”
“She’s your Luna.”
“Luna my ass.” He spits out angrily. The smile on his face has been replaced with a scowl. I calmly rise to my feet and shove both hands in my trouser pockets, my eyes trained on him.
He’s all bloody and broken and hurt, but he still won’t shut up.
“I summoned you here to tell you that the battle line has been drawn. I know how badly you want to take me down. I won’t tell you not to. Instead, I wish all the best. I’d love to see you try.”
“I will fight. I will win. I will conquer. When I’m done with you, you’ll have no voice.” He sneers.
I chuckle, shake my head and saunter out of my office.
This is where it all begins.
