Andre’s POV
It happened so fast. The sound of polished metal cutting through flesh. Blood sprayed all over Doran. It was over quickly.
Jonas was dead
His head was in Doran’s hand, and his body remained kneeling for a while before it fell to the ground with a thud like a felled tree.
I was in shock. His head still has its eyes open, bl staring into my soul from the pits of hell and mirroring complete fear.
“Doran?”
Doran cast the head aside and wiped his blade on Jonas’ clothes.
“Well, I think we are done here. We have won, Andre. We won the war.”
He tried to step towards me, but I stepped back.
I turned my head.
“Olivia?!”
She was unconscious at the foot of a broken tree. I dashed to her side and stood beside her. My fingers grazed her cheek. She was still breathing. Her face was still warm and full of color. I was relieved. She was going to be okay.
“Olivia?”
I called her name but she didn’t stir. I feared the worst. I called her name louder and shook her a little harder.
She stirred and finally turned to look at me.
“Andre?”
Her voice was weak and she tried to get up. I urged her to lie back down. I wasn’t sure how injured she was.
“I need to make sure that you are okay. Does anything hurt?”
She didn’t say anything but caressed my face with her soft fingers, and tears came to her eyes.
“You are alright. I am so glad.”
I smiled back at her and planted a kiss on her palm.
I watched her gaze go over my shoulder.
“What happened to Jonas?”
I turned around, and she gasped in fright. Her hands flew to her mouth, and she buried her face in her chest. It was a gory sight indeed.
The way his eyes stared in death was chilling.
“Olivia? Are you okay? We won the war.”
“Stay away from her.”
Doran looked at me, confused. He took a step back and smiled.
“What is going on, Andre? Come on. We should be celebrating. We won.”
“Who are you, Doran?”
He sighed and attempted to take another step toward me, but I snarled, and he backed away.
“Andre…”
“You didn’t answer my question, Doran. Who. Are. You?”
He gave a dry chuckle.
“You know who I am, Andre. It’s me, your Beta, and your best friend. I don’t think that has changed in the last few minutes.”
I glared at him. I wasn’t going to fall for that that easily.
I trusted Doran but I valued keeping my woman and child safe even more. I couldn’t take a gamble when it came to that.
“Why did he call you master?”
Olivia raised her head and peeped from my chest. Doran rolled his eyes.
“Let’s see. Maybe because he was beaten to a pulp and couldn’t see who I was. He probably mistook me for someone else.”
“Tell me the truth!”
“I am telling you the truth. This is war! He must have sustained a head injury or something.”
He cocked his head to one side and looked at Olivia, who was nestled in my chest.
“Olivia, tell him who I am. I am his friend. You two are family to me.”
Olivia didn’t speak. She looked up at me, and I did my best to shield her from the gory sight of Jonas’ head.
“Olivia. Look at me,” Doran coaxed gently.
Olivia refused and buried her head deeper into my chest.
Doran sighed.
“I see what the problem is.”
He stood beside Jonas’ severed head, and like it was all a sick game to him, he kicked his head like a ball.
He sent his head flying almost an entire seven meters. The blood that had pooled in his severed neck spilled all over him, and he didn’t seem to mind and took a kind of sick pleasure in it.
“There. All fixed. Now you don’t have to worry about his head anymore. Look at me, Olivia.”
I could sense that Olivia’s fear had changed. I couldn’t blame her. Even I was alarmed by the Doran that stood in front of me.
“I want the truth, Doran. Tell me who you really are.”
“And I have already told you. What more do you want me to say?”
“The truth…”
“Andre, Andre, Andre. You are delusional. Has this war blurred your perception of trust?”
I ignored him and planted a kiss on the top of Olivia’s head. I had never wanted to take advantage of her or her powers but I had to.
“Olivia?”
“Andre?”
“Forgive me, but I must ask you a favor.”
I whispered into her ears, and she gasped in fright.
“You are the only one that can do this.”
“But what if he kills me.”
“He won’t. He won’t harm you.” None of them wanted her dead.
They just wanted to take her from me. Damned bastards.
I felt terrible putting the life of my beloved on the line, but she was the only one that could do this.
I felt her brace herself, and she gently pushed herself from my embrace.
I watched the fearlessness in her eyes as she got up and hobbled to Doran.
His face broke into a grin. The blood streaks on his face made him look monstrous.
“See Andre. Olivia knows that it’s just me. You really have no need to worry.”
I watched her fight the urge to look at Jonas’ decapitated body or his head, which was still very visible even though it was far away.
She stopped in front of Doran. The glee on his face grew.
He placed a hand on her shoulder and she stared him directly in the eyes.
I watched my mate in awe. Her will was etched into Doran’s mind; her eyes were frightening, and his eyes were white, devoid of pupils.
When she spoke, she spoke with multiple voices that I knew were not her own.
“Speak the truth, Doran. Who are you?”
The men that came with Doran attempted an attack. Olivia whipped her head around and glared at them. I saw the chills run down their spines.
“Fall back and fall unconscious.”
I happened so swiftly.
Thirty men collapsed to the ground.
Olivia, I, and a few soldiers around us watched her in her full glory.
She turned back to Doran.
“Tell us who you really are.”
His mouth opened wide, and the words rolled out.
“I am…”
