Olivia’s POV
My eyes flung open, and bright light bleached my irises.
I looked around hastily for a while, but all I could see were colourful circles of lights blocking my vision.
Slowly, my sight was restored to me, and I realised that I was lying in a bed.
“Olivia?”
I turned my head around and locked eyes with Andre.
“Andre?”
My heart began to beat rapidly, and my face scrunched up slowly as tears began to form in my eyes.
It didn’t take long before I burst into tears and began to wail loudly.
“My baby! Andre, where’s my baby?
We leaned over me and pulled me into a hug, rubbing my back affectionately and cooing softly in my ear to try to comfort me.
“Olivia, you have to calm down. Everything is alright. Our baby is fine.”
Though he had assured me that everything was alright, it still took a while for me to calm down. I was still so scared and terribly shaken. The events of my capture flooded my mind every second and filled me with dread and fear.
“They tried to harm me, Andre. They tried to kill my baby, our baby.”
He kissed my forehead and pulled away from me, his green eyes staring into my blue pupils.
“I know, Olivia, but you don’t need to worry. You’re safe now. I will not let anything happen to you. I won’t let you out of my sight, and no one is going to harm you again.”
I buried my head in his chest and began a fresh round of crying.
I felt so weak and tired. My body could barely bear my own weight, and Andre had to hold on tight to me for support.
“What happened?” I asked him over his shoulder.
He stroked my hair, and I felt his lips graze my earlobes gently.
“We rescued you, or rather, you rescued yourself before we came in. You passed out, and you’ve been in the hospital for about two days now.”
I pulled away and looked at him in alarm, my watery eyes blurring my vision slightly.
“Two days? I’ve been unconscious for two days?”
“Olivia, you need to calm down. The doctors said that you are fine, but we shouldn’t allow you to go through so much stress again. You and the baby are fine. I need you to relax.”
I sniffed, and Andre took out a handkerchief from his pocket and gave it to me. I blew my nose and lay back on the bed, trying my best to calm down. I lay there looking at the ceiling, my hands on my belly, rubbing it and tenderly patting my growing child as a way to comfort him for all the stress that he had been put through.
There was a soft knock at the door, and an old lady in a nursing uniform came in.
“Mr. Andre, I came to… Oh my! Mis Olivia, you’re awake! How do you feel?”
The old lady rushed to my side and began to check my vitals.
“I feel weak, but I think that’s all.”
“Well, that’s good too…”
The nurse stopped checking me and locked eyes with me.
“You look just like Maria?”
I was feeling dread all over again. Why was she staring at me like that?
In a split second, Andre pulled me close and pushed the nurse away from me.
“Stay away from her. Who are you, and why are you looking at her like that?”
The lady snapped out of her daze and hurriedly locked the door.
She hurried back to us and fell to her knees.
“Forgive me.”
Andre and I looked at the old lady in confusion.
Someone else had said Maria… wasn’t that?
Jonas’s father!
Andre held on to me protectively and glared white hot knives at her.
“What is the meaning of this? Who are you, and who is Maria?”
The lady raised her head and looked around the room before she spoke.
“I called her that because she’s a spitting image of her mother. I never thought I would see a descendant of her family again. It’s been so long.”
“You have her eyes,” she added with a sigh, and I couldn’t help but remember the picture Ophena had shown me before.
I was intrigued, but I still clung tightly to Andre. I wasn’t going to fall for the same trick twice.
“Why did you only realise now? You took care of her. Didn’t you see the resemblance?” Andre questioned fiercely.
“Forgive me, Alpha, but earlier, I was too focused on saving mother and child. I didn’t pay attention to her features. It was shocking to see it just now.”
“Also, I didn’t think there would still be any descendants of Selene alive anymore.”
I could feel Andre’s heart skip a beat in surprise, and so did mine.
She knew about the Descendants of Selene?
I eased up a little from Andre’s grasp and looked at her intensely.
“You know about the Descendants? What happened to Maria… I mean, my mother.”
The lady shook her head sadly, and a single tear dropped from her eyes.
“It is a sad tale indeed. I worked for your family for years until they were wiped out.”
Hearing it again from her didn’t make it any better, and I felt sorrow-the same type I had felt back in that abandoned mansion.
Although I already knew, I decided to play the innocence card.
“Wiped out? What do you mean “wiped out?”
The lady opened her mouth to answer but immediately clamped it shut and looked around in fear.
“I will tell you everything, but this is not the right time to talk. You need to recover first.”
I looked at Andre and pleaded with my eyes to him. She knew about the Descendants of Selene and who my mother was. It was only right that we questioned her and found out what had happened to my family.
“I don’t trust her,” Andre said to me via the mind link. If I told him about Ophena now, he would probably have this woman killed, so I decided to keep quiet.
“I know this is all suspicious, but this is the only lead we’ve got, and I feel it is genuine. I believe we should give it a try. I’ll be with you, so there’s no need for you to worry that I’ll be taken again.”
Andre grunted but finally gave in to my request.
“You will be in charge of taking care of her. When she is stronger, you better have valuable information about what you just said.”
The lady bowed low to the ground three times and raised her head. In her eyes, there were tears of gratitude.
“Thank you, sir. This means a lot. It is an honour to do this very last tribute to the family of the Descendants before the Goddess calls me home.’
I was alone, but soon Andre came in. There was no expression on his face, and his eyes seemed sceptical.
I was elated, but Andre was pacing around, his hands in his pockets.
“I don’t trust anything in Elvis Pine. It seems that everyone is after you, so don’t expect me to trust that old lady.”
My joy faded. I knew I couldn’t convince Andre otherwise; he had every reason to be worried.
I had even more reason to be worried. But something about me felt that she was safe.
But could I really trust myself?
“I know, but we just have to take the risk. Like you, I hope the information this lady has is worth it…”
Besides, she already knew where we were; was there really a difference?
“Also, we can have eyes on her every time.”
Andre nodded and gave me a small smile. “I would ask the men to do a background check on her.”
