Olivia’s POV
Andre didn’t seem too happy but was reluctant to go to the door. The way he grabbed me tight showed that he’d rather fuck me than go to the door.
The knocking came again, and I sat upright and looked at Andre with a plea in my eyes.
“We should see who’s at the door. It could be important.”
Andre growled reluctantly, and I kissed him on the cheek.
“Fine. But it better be important.”
We both got dressed as fast as we could. I pulled a robe over my naked body, but Andre insisted on wearing some shorts.
I could already tell that he was upset. I didn’t think that it was a good idea to suggest that he wear something else.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The knocking came again, and Andre and I went to the door together. We opened, and I gasped in fright. I pulled the robe closer to my chest and turned pink in embarrassment.
“J… Jonas, it’s you. Good morning.”
I turned my face away, and my heart began to beat wildly. How long had he been standing outside our door? Did he hear everything that had happened?
Jonas didn’t return my greeting and when I finally picked up the courage to look at him, he was having a stare down with Andre.
The tension between them made beads of sweat form on my forehead. Were these two ever going to get along?
Jonas finally looked away from him and back to me. He was devoid of a smile, and I couldn’t blame him.
“Good morning, Olivia. I trust that you slept well. I apologise if I was ‘interrupting’ something important”
He stole a hateful glance at Andre, who snarled back and walked back inside the room, leaving me alone with Jonas.
“but I have news for you. I have gotten some information regarding your father, and on that note, my family wishes to meet with you in our private meeting room.”
I was elated and couldn’t hide my glee. I didn’t expect this lucky turn of events.
“That’s amazing. We’ll get ready and meet your family there.”
Jonas looked at me with an eyebrow raised.
“Excuse me? We?”
The smile on my face vanished and was replaced with confusion.
“Yes. We. Andre and I are coming.”
Jonas shook his head slowly.
“I’m afraid that he can’t come. My family only wishes to see you. He is a stranger to them, and they seem very uncomfortable in his presence.”
I nearly choked on my words. They were ‘uncomfortable’-the ones being weird and staring at me during dinner. They didn’t even have the right to be uncomfortable.
“No.”
Jonas was stunned.
“What?”
“You heard me. No. I won’t come and see your family.”
Jonas was stunned. I had taken the words right out of his mouth.
“But Olivia, this is important. This is about your father.”
“I know that, Jonas. But if I am to have a meeting with anyone, my Alpha and my mate are going to stand by my side. We are engaged and soon to be married. Where I go, he goes. We are one. So if he isn’t welcome, then neither am I.”
“I couldn’t have said it any better. You took the words right out of my mouth.”
I turned, and Andre was standing behind me again.
“You heard my mate. It’s either both of us or none of us. The choice is yours.”
Jonas looked furious, and my resolve was shattered. He had been so kind to us. I didn’t mean to be rude, but I wasn’t ready to meet his family alone. The way they stared at me still made me feel uncomfortable. I wanted Andre to come along.
“Fine,” Jonas said reluctantly. “The both of you can go. But my family needs you in five minutes.”
Andre wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close.
“Fifteen. Tell them that we will be with them in fifteen minutes.”
Jonas was red with irritation.
“They said…”
“Fifteen, or they can forget about it.”
Andre picked me up and placed me over his shoulder. I begged him to put me down. I didn’t want Jonas to see me like this.
“Andre…”
“We’ll see you in fifteen minutes, Jonas.”
Andre slammed the door and carried me back to bed.
*****************************************
Jonas led us to the private meeting room. I walked cautiously and kept my arm looped around Andre’s. I was still uncomfortable about meeting Jonas’s family. I still wasn’t able to get the stares of last night’s dinner out of my mind. They all creeped me out, especially his older sister, Lilian. I hated the way she stared at Andre.
After this morning, I was even more irritated at her.
We soon reached an ebony door with beautiful engravings on it.
“This is the place,” said Jonas.
I took a deep breath, and Andre looped his arm more tightly around mine.
I felt courage radiate inside me, and we finally pushed the door open and went inside.
The room wasn’t very large but moderately spacious, with comfortable and lush sofas and an array of books stacked on tall shelves.
I looked around the room, and just as I had feared, Jonas’ entire family was sitting there, looking at us, except Hailey, who stood up from her seat and moved towards us with a warm smile.
“It is so nice to see you again, Olivia.”
Initially, I wanted to crawl back into my shell but her inviting warmth gave me the courage to brave the awkwardness that hung in the air in the room.
Andre and I sat on the sofa farthest away from Jonas’ father, Donovan, and his two brothers, Jaden and Javier, who still had their eyes fixed on me like they would devour me any second.
Alpha King Donovan stood up and greeted Andre, and I graciously thought his eyes were still fixed on me.
This was weird.
My looks were above average but definitely not enough to make every man I met infatuated with me. But then, what were these stares?
“We are glad that you two honoured our invitation. My son briefed us that you are looking for information about your father, Kyle Grey.”
He opened a file and pulled out some papers. He perused them briefly, then had his sons pass them to me.
Just as Javier was about to place it in my hand, Andre snatched it from him, cast him a death glance, and looked through the documents.
“What are these?” He asked as his eyes darted across the lines on the paper.
“They are the last seen coordinates of Olivia’s father. He was a foreigner in our pack, and custom demanded that we monitor his movements. We did that until the day that we noticed that he had stopped moving. We were later told by some locals that he had died, and his body was carried away for burial.”
Andre looked at the coordinates suspiciously. I stole a glance at the paper, and all I could see were numbers and letters. I didn’t understand any of it.
“Isn’t it a little suspicious for a pack to monitor someone’s movements this detailed?”
Andre raised his head and looked at Donovan suspiciously.
“We are a very security-conscious pack. I believe Jonas has told you the history between us and the other royal families in Elvis Pine. We can’t be too careful. I’m sure an Alpha, like yourself, understands the importance of security for himself and members of the pack under his care.”
Andre fell silent and continued to look at the paper.
“Me and my men will check out these locations and be sure to ask questions.”
Donovan gave a nod.
“You have my permission. I would like to volunteer some of my men to escort you.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Andre refused, turning down his offer.
“This is my pack, Alpha Andre. I insist.”
The tension in the air became heavier, and I reached into Andre’s mind and urged him to accept the offer so that we could leave. Jaden and Javier’s stares had become even creepier.
“Fine, if you insist,” Andre agreed reluctantly. “But I will only take two of your men.”
Donovan gave a nod.
“That’s fine with me.”
