Jonas’ POV
I stood outside with Fentris and didn’t take kindly to the old man. His putting on airs frustrated me. He looked at me with a grin and spoke.
“It is finally great to meet the face behind the name,”
He thrusted his hand forward for a handshake, but I ignored it. I wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. Now, what do you want? If Nicole told you about me, then it had better be important.”
My eyes narrowed down on him, but his grin didn’t relent.
“I see. You like to get down to business. That is a very exciting trait. I admire that in a man.”
I growled. Was he joking with me?
“Are we talking about something or not?”
“Yes, we are. Nicole was able to contact me. I had a little job that I wanted her to help me with, but she said that she is out of town and that you can help.”
I folded my hands and glowered at him. He seemed suspicious.
“Keep talking. If it is within my capacity, I think I can help. Looking at all of you, I can tell that you all are weak.”
The old Councilor rubbed his hands together with glee, casting aside my degrading comment.
“Excellent! But I can see that you don’t take the Alpha seriously. Well, we shall put your skills to the test. There are some documents in his study that will be very beneficial to certain ‘endeavours’ of mine…”
I rolled my eyes. This was getting frustrating.
“Cut the bullshit and tell me what you want. You are wasting my time.”
The Councilor’s smile widened.
” You are a very smart young man. I need you to infiltrate there and get them for me.”
I chuckled and threw my head back. He couldn’t be serious.
“Is that all? I thought that you had a challenge for me. This is pathetic.”
I was about to walk away from the stupid job. I could take down packs of men, but this stupid old man wanted to downgrade me to a book boy.
“Come back. You seem to be very proud of yourself. But getting into his study isn’t as easy as you think. There are hordes of security cameras that watch the front door. He, however, doesn’t have them inside the study. So it is a mystery what goes on in there. If you can get in, get the documents, and give them to me, I will reward you handsomely, and I will tell you everything you want to know.”
I raised my brow in suspicion. What was he yapping about?
“Everything that I want to know? And what do you think that I want to know?”
My voice became deeper and more threatening. This old man better not be fucking with me.
He chortled in the most annoying way.
“I know that you want information about Nicole.
I can tell you what you need, where she has been, and who is after her. A little birdie told me that this information is vital to you for some reason. It might also interest you that I rescued her from one of those pursuers long ago.”
I was suddenly dragged in. I wanted to know, but there was something about this man that just didn’t sit well with me. But this was going to be an easy job-the easiest I have ever done.
“So, Jonas, do we have a deal?”
I looked at his outstretched hand in disdain and finally took it, shaking it firmly.
“I will get the documents, and when I get out, you better spill about that information.”
Fentris chuckled.
“‘When’ you get out. Good luck.”
*******************************************
Fuck!
I was close to his study, and I finally realised that it was more guarded than I thought, even what he described.
The guards didn’t stand in front of the door but in strategic positions that put the study door in their line of sight.
I looked up and saw the security cameras. How come I didn’t notice them the first time I entered?
I stood in a hidden corner, trying to figure out how to get in when suddenly Andre walked up to them.
“Crap!”
I ducked and hid the best I could. Why did the bastard have to come in?
“You all are excused. You can leave your stations and have a break. I will be inside working.”
The guards bowed and left. Andre was alone, but something stopped him, and he went back upstairs.
“Bingo.”
This was my opening.
I whipped out my phone and began to press the buttons rapidly. I was able to find the connection codes to the surveillance cameras, and one by one, I began to disable them. I had a narrow time window. I had no idea where Andre had gone or when he would be back, so I had to work fast. I watched their red lights go off one by one, and soon, the hallway became clear.
“It seems that everyone gives Andre too much credit. The man isn’t worth his salt.”
I put my phone back into my pocket and looked around cautiously. The area was clear.
I walked up to the door and slipped in undetected by the cameras. It seemed that Andre was more careless than I thought.
I looked around the large room. Shelves towered high above my head, and there were books everywhere. Then, I realised the counsellor had not told me where I would find the documents.
I gritted my teeth angrily. Now I was going to have to search this place.
I was just about to take a step forward, but when I heard Andre’s voice drawing closer, it seemed like he was on the phone.
“Run a scan and send it to my desk. I want it as soon as possible.”
I heard the door click, and I ran to hide. Andre walked in and ended the call.
He sat down at his desk and began to write.
I watched him angrily. I couldn’t explain how much I loathed him.
I was thinking fast about how I could leave his office, and then Olivia walked in.
“Fuck! What is she doing here?”
