Olivia’s POV
“No! No! No!”
I tripped, and I fell into a deep, dark abyss. I tried to scream, but I couldn’t. The darkness had muffled my screams and was devouring my conscience little by little.
There was nothing more to think about. This was the end. I was lost, and I would never see Andre or Jonas again. There was nothing that I could do, and I simply closed my eyes to accept my fate.
I continued to fall, but I soon hit something comfortable and soft. My body was warm, and my skin felt loved.
“No. This wasn’t real.”
I felt my body become stiff. Where was I? What was happening? Was I finally dead? Was this heaven? Where were the pearly gates?
It was still dark, but the darkness felt comforting and familiar-the soft type that rocked you to peaceful sleep. I still couldn’t see it, but I was no longer afraid.
“Andre?”
I took a sniff of the air, and his scent filled my nostrils. Where was I? Was he here? Why couldn’t I see him?
“… wrong with her?”
“… form in her lungs. She will be fine. She is just exhausted. She is also ovulating.”
Ovulating? Were the voices talking about me? How did the soft female voice know I was ovulating?
The voices became louder, and the darkness became less thick. I could hear Andre’s voice distinctly and tell he was wherever I was.
“Ovulating, how does that…?”
“Women are a little more sensitive during this time. She should have woken up by now, but her body is stressed, so it’s taking longer.”
Andre’s voice came again, and now, I was fighting with my body to open my eyes and see his face.
“And you could tell all of that by simply checking her vitals?”
A soft chuckle filled the room.
“It seems that werewolf kind is getting really good at blending in that even our own kind can’t distinguish us in a crowd. I’m a wolf like both of you. I understand these things. She is going to be fine. She just needs rest.”
Rest? I didn’t want to rest anymore. I wanted to see Andre. Why couldn’t I open my eyes? Why was my body resisting?
My resolve made my eyes flutter open, and Andre’s brilliant green pupils were the first things I saw. He rushed to my side and sat beside me, grabbing my hand in his and putting the back of my palm on his soft and warm lips.
“Princess, are you alright? Are you in pain?”
I didn’t answer his question immediately and turned to the kind doctor who stood at my bedside.
“I’m glad that you are awake, Miss Olivia. I hope you’re feeling better.”
I turned to Andre again. His eyes now looked stern and angry.
“What is wrong with you, Olivia? Why are you trying to run from me? Did I offend you?
I turned to the doctor, and she immediately understood my request.
“I’ll give the both of you some space. I also advise that you get her some suppressants. Her scent is going to be overwhelming at this time. Men will react to her if they smell her. It’s all over the room, and the full moon is out.”
She left the room, and as soon as the door closed, I turned to Andre.
“Olivia, speak to me? Why are you trying to run from me? Is it something that I did? Did I hurt you? Haven’t I loved you enough? You simply left. You had been lying to me. I wanted to take you on a trip, so I called the school only to find out that you were gone. Speak to me.”
I was in a daze. I couldn’t answer him. It had been so long since I saw his face, and his scent had filled my lungs. It was so long since I saw light bounce off his eyes the way they did now.
“Olivia, why did you leave?”
Why did I leave?
My thoughts tossed the question at me, and I was confused for a few minutes.
What exactly had compelled me to leave my lover behind, to break his heart with my absence?
I looked at Andre again, and the glint in his green eyes warmed my heart. Why did I have to leave? What resolve was so strong that I left all the love and care that he had shown me behind?
“Olivia, speak to me.”
His voice had become softer, and he placed a palm on my cheek. His warmth set me on fire, and I could feel my body raging, desperate to feel more of him.
I took a deep breath and sighed. I couldn’t keep him in the dark. I had to come clean.
“I had to. It was the only way that I could keep us safe and not draw attention to us.”
Andre pulled away from me and looked at me in confusion.
“What are you talking about? Why don’t I understand you? Keep us safe from what exactly? Olivia, what’s wrong? You know that you can tell me.”
I took a deep breath.
“Andre, someone knows about us…”
