Olivia’s POV
I woke up early in the morning to the smell of food.
“You look pretty in my sister’s clothes. I dare say that they suit you more than they suit her.”
I brushed his comment away with a smile, and we headed out and walked to the hospital. I felt a little safer this time as no one was staring at me with eyes full of lustful desires. For the first time since last night, I felt comfortable in my skin.
We soon arrived at the hospital, and it seemed that Dr. Sean had been waiting for us all morning.
“Olivia, Jonas, good morning. I have been expecting both of you. Please come in.”
He ushered us into his office, and we took our seats, and he sat on his, that was, on the other side of the desk.
“I have decided to increase the dosage and make a larger batch just for you. You will need to apply it for two weeks, thrice a day. We need to be sure that your pheromones are only active on full moon nights, and we also need to be sure that there are no triggers, and if there are any, you have to stay away from them.”
I was quite worried about the situation. If only my wolf could explain what was happening to me.
“Nima, what is happening to you? Why are your pheromones so strong?”
I tried to reach out to her in my mind, but she was silent.
“I did realise, though, that your pheromones did not affect me this morning,” said Dr Sean. ”
“Like I said earlier, this was the strongest batch we could make. Instead of applying it once daily, you will have to apply it thrice daily for the next two weeks.”
Jonas and I thanked Dr. Sean, and we left his office.
We got home very quickly, and I hurried upstairs to my room. I saw my bags in the corner and smiled. I couldn’t believe that Jonas went back to get my bags.
However, I was leaving now so I had to take them along with me. In the next two weeks, I will come back.
I continued to search for clothes, but a piece of paper fell from one of my clothes and onto the floor.
I picked it up and realised it was my father’s letter to Nicole.
I grabbed it, and my eyes skimmed the words rapidly, reminding me of why I had left my pack in the first place. I needed to find who killed my father, and I could not afford to be cosy in this little pack forever.
I hurried downstairs with the letter, nearly bumping into Jonas as he was setting the dinner table.
“I need to know how to get here. The post office told me this letter was from Virginia. Elvis Pine County, to be precise.”
Jonas stopped what he was doing and looked at me in shock and horror.
“Elvis Pine? Are you sure they told you that?”
My eyes were filled with questions. As soon as I mentioned where the letter was from, his expression changed instantly. He knew something.
“Yes. What’s the matter? Is something wrong?”
Jonah straightened up and folded his arms across his chest.
“Are you sure you want to go there, Olivia?” Jonas asked, his voice laced with scepticism.
I wasn’t bothered about anything aside from how I was going to get there or the cost before now, but seeing the look on his face, I couldn’t help but feel a tad bit of worry creeping in.
“Why do you ask? Is there something that I need to know?”
Jonas slipped the letter towards himself, across the table and glanced at the address again.
“There is no mistaking this address,” he said in a grim tone. “I grew up here, and I can tell you that it’s dangerous.”
I took a seat, and so did Jonas. His chestnut eyes seemed sad and distant, and I felt guilty for having to make him reminisce over a hurtful past.
“I need to find some answers there, Jonas.”
He took a deep breath and my spirits fell. I took the letter from Jonas and glanced sadly at the words.
“But I need to go there. There is something important that I need to find out. There has to be some way to go there.”
“How important is this thing that you need to do there?”
I ran my finger across my father’s name, which was signed at the bottom.
“It involves a life,” I said softly and sadly.
I heard Jonas take a deep breath, and when I looked up at him, I saw that he had turned his head away.
“I guess this ‘life’ is so important to you that it is worth sacrificing your own.”
I was dumbfounded. I was about to say something, but he cut me off quickly.
“Olivia, I really don’t want to let my personal fears influence your decision. I know you have a good heart and want to do what is right, but I want to look out for you. Just think about what I’ve said, and maybe you can come up with an answer tomorrow. Whatever you choose, I’ll go along with it. If you choose to go, we can head out tomorrow as soon as you’ve seen Dr. Sean.”
My eyes lit up as I looked up at him.
“Is… Isn’t that too soon? I haven’t even made up my mind yet, and I don’t even have money to fund the trip.”
Jonas’ golden eyes beamed at me warmly, and he took my hand gently.
“I really wouldn’t mind driving you there. It’s not safe, like I said, but it’s better for a member of the pack to take you there instead of you going all by yourself. And if we survive the ordeal and come back in one piece, you can pay me back for my troubles if you feel moved to.”
“All right, you can take me to the pack. But before we leave, I will write an agreement to pay you back every dime that I will owe you.”
Jonas’ grim expression became lighter, and he threw his head back and chuckled.
“You are just so cute. You remind me so much of my sister.”
I blushed and laughed lightly, too.
“Well, I think they are lucky to have you. I wish I had a brother like you.”
