Olivia’s POV
My head turned along with everyone, and I focused on the handsome guy who had dashed in.
The teacher folded her hands and stared at him with a scowl, but he smiled cheekily back at her.
“You are late. I have every reason to send you out of this class.”
“I am really sorry. The basketball game took a little longer, but I have a note from the coach.”
His deep voice sounded so calm, cool and melodic. His muscles pushed against his gym clothes. He had handsome eyes and dark, jet-black hair. He looked amazing, but he was nothing compared to Andre.
I blushed at the comparison. Was I going to compare every guy with Andre now?
He walked up to her, gave her the note, and she skimmed through it. She rolled her eyes and tucked it into her pocket.
“You boys are slowly getting on my nerves. Hurry and partner up. The lady over there is the only one that doesn’t have a partner. So you get her as a partner.”
He smiled and walked to me.
“Well, it seems that I got lucky.”
I shook his hand politely and was about to tell him my name when the teacher interrupted us.
“Okay, enough. You two can flirt after class. This is a physical fitness class, not an episode of The Bachelorette.”
I blushed a little and stood up with him to join the others.
“Now that we are all partnered, let’s get down to business. This is your first Lycanthrope Physical Fitness Class, and you all need to know the basics about lycanthropy. As a werewolf, you are an animal that is in perfect balance with nature. The moon has always been a source of a wolf’s power, and being a wolf comes with added advantages like speed and strength, which can be enhanced by practice and physical training. I will teach you all how to maximise your wolf while you are still human. It will be detrimental to our existence if a human catches a 20-year-old lifting over 300 pounds with one hand. So apart from maximising your wolf potential, I will also teach you how to control it…”
I was already getting a little excited. I had seen the other students lift things that were much heavier than they were. If I could harness my wolf’s abilities, I could do everything they did.
“Lycanthropy first begins with your wolf. It is the outward manifestation of your wolf within. When you shift, you give your wolf full control of your body and mind, which requires trust between you and your wolf. If that trust does not exist, your wolf cannot manifest itself in a way you can control. A wolf’s sense of smell is acute and very heightened, and in your wolf form, it will be your greatest asset to know who is a friend and a foe.”
I sat down on the ground and faced my partner. I stared into his dark and captivating eyes, trying my best to feel my wolf connect with him and make a pack bond. I tried as hard as I could, but my mind was silent. I couldn’t hear her. I could feel her prancing around in my head, but she didn’t talk back to me.
“Are you okay? He asked.
I opened my eyes and saw him staring at me with a smile. I was embarrassed to speak. How would I tell him that I couldn’t hear my wolf talking to me and that I couldn’t establish a bond?
“You know, you don’t have to force it. I can tell that you are not from this pack. Your scent doesn’t smell familiar, and your wolf might want to avoid establishing a new pack connection because it is still very much attached to your old pack. Just give her time, and she will come around.”
I smiled at him and tried again. I relaxed and tried to establish another bond with him. I took a deep breath, and his scent filled my nostrils, and I could feel it registering in my memory.
At least I had gotten the scent part down. All that was left was for me to find a way to communicate with my wolf.
Hopefully, I will meet her soon. In between all the moving, mourning and shifting under Andre’s command, I hadn’t shifted or met my wolf other than that.
Perhaps that was the reason for its silence.
In a few minutes, the class ended, and everyone began to leave. I walked to my bag and ensured all my things were intact. I had a generally good day, and though I couldn’t get my wolf to talk to me, I knew I was making progress. Besides, I could get Andre to help me out.
“Hey.”
I soon felt a tap on my shoulder, and I turned and saw that it was my partner.
“Thanks for partnering up with me. I would have been so sad to be left out of the class.”
He flashed me a smile.
“No problem. Hey, if you need any help with the lycanthropy class, I’d be happy to help. It was nice meeting you. I didn’t quite catch your name.”
I smiled politely back at him.
“My name’s Olivia.”
He threw me a wink and offered his hand for a handshake.
“Well, it’s just nice to meet you. I’m Jaxon.”
