Nicholas’ lackey

“Richard Cartwright.” I muttered and he smiled.
“The one and only.”
I stared at him quietly. I didn’t have a good impression of him after all Nicholas had told me. It seemed like he had a hidden agenda behind that wide smile of his.
“So.. what am I doing here?” I asked as I folded my arms under my boobs and made a questioning stance.
He chuckled softly; “You’re so impatient. Why don’t you have a seat first.” He offered as he pointed at the seat close to me.
I stared at him quietly, not moving an inch or moving my gaze from him. When he realised that I wasn’t in the mood for jokes, he frowned a little.
“Your husband isn’t who he claims to be.” He stated calmly, as he tried to hide his anger.
“And you’re the one that knows him well?” I mocked, already regretting why I decided to meet with him. If I had known that he was a Cartwright, I wouldn’t have given him the audience.
“I can show you proof of it.” He muttered and stood uo from his seat.
He walked towards the drawer and opened it, pulling out a small brown envelope, then he walked towards me. He was about getting closer when Fiona stopped him amd collected the envelope before handing it over to me.
He scoffed angrily at her act but used a fake smile to try to hide it. Well, it didn’t work. I ignored his facial expressions and stared at the envelope suspiciously before proceeding to open it.
I felt my whole world crumble when I saw the pictures that were in there.

Catherine stopped immediately as she brought out the pictures from the envelope and stared at them silently. The pictures showed Nicholas being in an intimate position with another woman.
Her heart sank as she stared at the picture in silence. She really couldn’t believe her eyes. Nicholas of all people can’t do that to her.
When Richard noticed her change in expression, a smirk appeared on his face as he had finally gotten what he wanted.
“Like I told you before. Your husband isn’t who he claims to be.” He said as he tried to draw close to Catherine again but was still stopped by Fiona.
He had a grim look on his face and wanted to lash out at Fiona but held back himself when he saw Catherine’s sad face. His contempt and smirk returned so he sat back on his seat and crossed his legs in an arrogant manner.
“It hasn’t even been up to a week since you guys tied the knot and he’s already having an affair. It’s quite worse than your last marriage isn’t it?” He asked but Catherine didn’t reply him. She was too engrossed in the picture she was staring at.
“It seems you attract betrayers more than normal men. Why? Do you have a soft spot for them??” Richard mocked, trying to irk her so she would change her mind about Nicholas and it seemed like it worked because she suddenly burst out into tears.
“Why would Nicholas do this to me? He knows how much Andrew’s betrayal hurt me.. so why would he do the same to me??” She asked herself as more tears poured out of her eyes.
A very satisfied look appeared on Richard’s face when he heard her outburst. He had really gotten to her.
“Why don’t you come to me then?? I’ll treat you better than all of your husbands. If only you decide to divorce him.” He offered.
“Really??” Catherine’s eyes lit up when he asked that question.
Not realizing the sarcasm in her voice and Fiona’s small smile, he nodded his head readily.
“So all I have to do is divorce Nicholas?” She asked again.
“That’s all you have to do.” He answered. Catherine stared at him silently before bursting out in laughter.
“Really?? You want me to leave my husband for…” She eyed him from head to toe. “…. you of all people?” She added, a hint of mokery laced in her voice.
Shock and embarrassment was an understatement of what Richard was feeling at that moment.
“But he cheated on you..” He muttered as he pointed at the envelope she was holding.
“Oh.. this?? And how am I supposed to believe you?” She asked.
“Believe me? I just gave you proof like you had requested.” He defended.
“This proof can easily be faked. Nicholas would never betray me.” She said confidently, making Richard laugh out. He laughed so hard till he felt his stomach hurting.
“You really believe that???” He asked her after he had calmed down.
“Believe?? No, but I know it. I have faith in Nicholas and I know he wouldn’t throw away what we have for something like this.” She muttered, waving the photos in his face.
“You would be really surprised.” He whispered.
“You asked if Nicholas had told me about you before? Well, the answer is yes. With all he’s explained to me, do you really think I’ll believe these bullshit?” She asked, with a small scoff.
“What has he told you about me? I’m dying to know.”
“Why don’t you figure that out yourself as you’re so good at stalking others. You might find the answer you’re looking for if you continue following Nicholas around like a lackey.” A deep frown appeared on his face when she said that.
“What did you just call me?” He asked angrily.
“A.. Lackey!!” Catherine said it louder louder he could hear her well and that only made him madder.
“You fucking whore!!” He cussed out and was about to attack her when Fiona held him back.
“Let’s me go you peasant!!” He said angrily and tried to break free from her hold but she was surprisingly stronger than him.
“Ahh..” Catherine sighed dramatically, as she massaged her neck like she was tired.
“I wasted my precious time in coming here.” She muttered softly.
“I never knew you were this pathetic.” She mocked as she walked closer to him. Richard growled angrily as he tried to free himself from Fiona but couldn’t.
“You should focus more on how to get the company from your brother instead of meddling in other’s marital affairs.” Catherine advised.
“And what do you know about my family??” He asked angrily.
“A lot; like you’re not fit to be the chairman. Exactly why your Grandfather doesn’t even look your way at all.” Catherine said, mockingly.
That sentence triggered him and he fought with all his might to break free from Fiona’s hold. Catherine signalled to Fiona and she let him go. He wasn’t expecting that so he stumbled and fell on his face.
“You don’t even have a good stamina. How do you expect to get your Grandfather’s approval?” Catherine mocked and laughed out at him.
He stood up angrily on his feet and wanted to attack Catherine again when he saw Fiona standing in front of her.
“Save your energy for the battle of inheritance that’s to come. Goodbye Mr. Carthwright.” She said before leaving with a smug smile plastered on her face.
After she had left, Richard couldn’t help himself anymore. He screamed angrily and trashed the whole room. He has never been this humiliated in his life and worse, by a woman.
He vowed to make Catherine pay for what she did to him, her and her bodyguard.
