Catherine was almost caught when Jude called out to her but she quickly regained her composure and hid the bug.
“Aren’t you leaving?” Jude asked, showing a hint of displeasure in his face and tone.
“Why are you in such a hurry to chase me away?” Catherine asked back as a way to stall time. She still hasn’t placed the bug well.
“Like I said, I have a job to do and you being here isn’t helping at all.” Jude muttered, trying to conceal his anger.
He’s the first person in the company that had the guts to speak that way to her without any ounce of fear of loosing his job and that only made Catherine more sure of her suspicions.
He really does have someone big that’s backing him in the company or else, he wouldn’t even dare to look her in the eyes.
“You really have no fear.” Catherine muttered under her breath but he heard her.
“Why would I be afraid?” He asked.
“You should if you still want to have a place in the business world.” She answered.
“So what? You’re going to fire me?” He asked. There was no fear in his tone like he had nothing to lose.
“What if I do?” Catherine asked back.
Jude stared at her silently, like he was thinking about his next choice of word before he bursted into a round of laughter. He held his belly and laughed so hard like he was watching a comedic show.
Catherine noticed that he was already off guard so she quickly placed the bug underneath his table. It would be very hard to notice it and it was closer to where he was.
Being satisfied as she had done what she had gone to his office to do, she was about to leave when: “You’re very funny you know.” Jude muttered as he tried to stop his laughter.
She had almost forgot about the exhausting conversation she was having with him. She forced herself not to roll her eyes at him and asked; “What’s so funny about me??”
Suddenly turning serious; “You should know, you’re the last person I’ll ever kiss up to just to keep a job.” He said.
“Great, I didn’t really need someone like you added to the queue.” She muttered and she noticed how anger flashed through his eyes, for just a split second.
“So what are you doing here then?” He asked.
“I wanted to see what’s making you have the guts to speak to me in the tone that you do but I have to say, I’m really disappointed.”
“What??”
“That’s right. You see, I don’t know what or who brought you here but I’ll make sure you won’t last longer if you don’t stay in your lane. You know, I’ll do anything to clear out anything or anyone that gets in my way, no matter who it is because I’m just like the rest.” Catherine said in a menacing tone as she looked him dead in the eye.
Catherine noticed how his eyes showed a hint of fear and his body reaction showed the evidence of being threatened and that made her smile. He’s no different from the rest of them.
“I hope I’m clear enough?” Catherine asked and he nodded his head unknowingly.
“Good.” She muttered and was about to leave when she recalled something.
“By the way..” She muttered as she turned on her heels.
“… I need the finance report for your group. It should be submitted on my desk before the end of today.” She ordered and he nodded like someone who’s being controlled.
“Words Mr. Clayton.” Catherine reminded.
“I’ll send you the reports ma’am.” Jude said and Catherine nodded in understanding.
“I’m so glad that we understand each other.” Catherine said in an innocent tone like she hadn’t just threatened him coldly before leaving his office.
After Catherine had left, Jude finally regained his senses. He had a grim look on his face when he realised what had just happened.
“Fuck!!!” He cussed out loudly as he kicked his chair angrily.
Catherine had just threatened him openly and he couldn’t do anything except following her every whim. He didn’t know what came over him and made him act that way.
Why was he scared of her?? He didn’t know. All he knew was that he had finally seen her true colors and now, he had more reasons to hate her.
Remembering how she ordered him around and how he reacted made him angrier. He needed to pay her back. This is the second time she was treating him this way and what’s worse is that he couldn’t even stand up to her.
He couldn’t wait to see her suffer too just like he was. At that moment, he just wanted to ruin the only thing that she loved and that was her beloved heritage, the company.
I smiled when I heard him cussing out loudly. As expected, he was all talk and no action. I didn’t really mean what I said when I threatened him but it was enough for him to understand that I can’t be looked down on.
There’s no way I would ever treat a human being like I told him I would, well unless they deserve it. When I got to my office, I heaved a sigh of relief. When he called my name earlier, I was scared that I had been caught.
Thankfully, things went as planned. I had set the bait and now, I have to wait for the fish to bite. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard my phone vibrate.
I picked it up and saw that it was a message from Nicholas. He informed me that there was news about the shell company and that it would be best to discuss it in person.
I agreed and we set up a date and venue for our meeting. I was about to get back to work when another message came in from Nicholas.
“I miss you.” I could feel my cheeks heating up when I saw the message. As always, the little things he does or says were enough to stir my heart.
“I miss you too.” I texted back and we exchanged a few flirtatious messages, making my heart flutter.
After, I continued what I was about to do before. I clicked on my phone screen, activating the bug. Ever since my rebirth, I had been eager to know how Amara and Andrew controlled the company in my previous life. Now, I finally have the chance to do so and I wasn’t going to let it go to waste.
